Instead of ‘I won’t be able to afford it’ why are people not considering Wegovy

Just curious as I have read so many posts about how awful the price hike is - I agree. But, this doesn’t have to be the end for people who are not be able to keep going on MJ, lots will be able to try Wegovy if they haven’t already used it and decided it’s not for them.

I know it’s scary just now, I use MJ and will have to rework things once we know the pricing to see if I can still afford it but my next thought has always been ‘if not I will try Wegovy’

Lets not all be defeated before trying the other option.

I came on here this morning to ask about switching to Wegovy as an alternative. Can anyone point me in the direction of information about the differences between MJ and Wegovy or Ozempic? Is Wegovy as effective? Are the side effects the same?

Obeseandashamed · 15/08/2025 09:05

I have used weight before and really struggled with it as I had awful side effects. MJ has been effective for me and has given me the least side effects.

Nunenco · 15/08/2025 09:08

I was thinking of possibly switching to Wegovy. I’m currently on MJ and I’m not doing that great with the side effects. As much so that I was considering giving up but just reordered for another month in the hope things settle down. If the prices are indeed going up as it’s reported now then the decision has been made for me unfortunately. Question is what will happen with the price of Wegovy as I would think many MJ users will be reconsidering their options. Hopefully this will all go away and not happen.. If many can’t afford to buy it anymore then that’s not going to increase revenue for the manufacturers in any event.

I understand that, I’m really asking those who haven’t used it before, why are they not considering it.

I’m looking into myself just now. I can’t remember why I chose MJ over W at the start but o found it quite easy to compare them. I think the sooner the better tbh otherwise there will be supply issues for W starters.

I thought Wegovy cost more. It did last time I looked

hellohellooo · 15/08/2025 09:18

So do we think it will be x 3 the price !!! My gosh what a mess

It won’t though when MJ goes up so still worth considering?

Probably because it's less effective, and not what they want. And, you have to take a break between stopping Mounjaro and starting Wegovy, and start at the lowest dose again. So may not be effective for weeks or months. And, some may not be in a position to switch if they are towards the end of their weight loss process - if your BMI is under the starting criteria for Wegovy, would you even be able to switch??

DBatteryBand · 15/08/2025 09:25

I'm not currently considering it because I am at the foot-stamping, Verucca Salt stage of my outrage - 'I WANT MOUNJARO!' and so forth. I imagine once I have stopped Rumplestiltskinning around the place in teeth-gnashing fury I will sit down and have a good look at it.

Less effective is better than nothing I think. I don’t know what the switching rules will be but presumably pharmacies are working on this

Ahhh I love this! Perfect, honest and funny reply!!

Lets hope we all manage to work it out somehow

This isn't what I've just read on VOY's website?

Step 4 – Wait one week between medications
Allow at least 7 days between your final Mounjaro dose and your first Wegovy injection. Ideally, begin on your usual injection day to keep your routine consistent.

So you don't have to take a break. I can't say how effective it is in comparison though x

moondune · 15/08/2025 09:34

Awful side effects for me, unfortunately, otherwise I would happily go back on wegovy.

SkibidiSigma · 15/08/2025 09:35

Because by the time I've finished my current stock of mj my BMI will be under 30, hopefully under 27 so doubt I'd qualify. Plus don't want to start again with another drug, the expense is a lot already and don't want to pay for something less effective. If I'd only just started I'd likely feel differently though

So you are not one of the people feeling defeated and upset, you already have what you need.

No I absolutely am feeling upset. I still have nearly 4 stone to lose to be a healthy weight, not to mention the control it's given me over other areas of my life. But I'm also not going to let this ruin my life. Was just saying why I personally wouldn't consider wegovy. I mean if I pile the weight back on I may reconsider

I'm in a similar position

Just unsure what to do next ??!!

HotTiredDog · 15/08/2025 10:29

Does anyone else (cynically? correctly?) think this was part of the strategy all along? Create a dependency to a new product & then push the price up - it must have happened historically to other new products.
(Declaration of interest - I can’t take it though wish I could!)

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/08/2025 10:30

I wouldn't assume that prices won't go up for Wegovy at some point too - this is a global issue and non-US manufacturers won't necessarily be able to avoid price rises. I'll consider Wegovy if needed but I'm waiting to see what happens when the dust settles and we actually know what the final prices will be (for both).

I think price dropped when new research came out saying MJ is more effective and will have fewer side effects. I’m considering swapping to Wegovy but I wonder if the price for that will increase.

I think they used the UK at a test market. Small island with a large obesity issue. They wanted the rest of the world to find out it works (cheap grass roots marketing) then they planned on increasing the price.

BeaLola · 15/08/2025 10:35

Don't mean to derail but what is the price / what will be the price ?
