Do they have to be stored in the fridge?

Hi started today and just wanted to ask if anyone wasn’t storing the injection in the fridge after first use? I’m worried about the children seeing it so was just going to keep in my bedroom cupboard.

If you check the paper patient information leaflet that came with the injection pen, you should find a section on storing your pen. To summarise, once the pen is in use, you can store it at room temperature or in the fridge, your choice. If at room temperature, it must be kept below 30 degrees celsius. Not usually an issue in most of the UK, most of the year.

It's really your choice. I keep mine in the fridge, because it will be kept at a consistent temp and is more out of the way of my children than other places. It's at the back, on the top shelf of a tall fridge that's not in the kitchen, so that works for me. It has occasionally been hotter than 30 degrees where I am this summer. Another reason I keep it in the fridge is that often I have 2 pens, so store them both in the same place. The one that I'm currently using, and my next pen which has to be kept refrigerated before it's in use.

I know that lots of people posting here will keep it in a bedroom drawer, or in a bathroom cabinet. I think that's pretty common too.

I don't keep mine in the fridge once open, it's fine.

I do keep mine in the fridge, and am also not telling DH about taking it. I just put it in the salad drawer under some lettuce or kale. Its perfectly safe, and as long has the things he will want to eat are visible so he doesn't have to rummage looking for them, the chances of him taking leaves out of the fridge are minimal.

As per the instructions too don’t need to refrigerated it after first use - so long as it won’t exceed 30C where it’s stored. You will find a lot of people on here do keep it in fridge as standard, as they plan to take extra dose or at times are taking a lower dose from a higher strength pen so trying to limit the possible reduction in efficacy if they go over 30 days. You aren’t doing that so either is fine.
