Uk medi, 1ml syringes use 0.6 ml for one extra dose, there's usually a bit more depending on how you've primed

this is a reputable online medical supplier often recommended on here. Some use Amazon but sterility and being medical grade cannot be guaranteed from there.

there are various choices but you need a 1ml or 100 unit syringe like this. 8mm is the needle length (twice the length of the usual pen ones) and 32g is the needle thickness. The ones I got were actually 30g (which is thicker - I don’t understand the system) but barely noticeable.

it’s very straightforward but I found watching some videos helpful before my first time.

Is it a ‘bonus’ dose? I thought it was what is supposed to be used to fully prime the pen x 4?

SilenceInside · 12/08/2025 20:00

@YouWillFindMeInTheGarden there is plenty of additional medication in the pen, 0.6 to 0.9 ml even after 4 primings.

How did you manage with the 8mm needle? Do you still fully insert it?

I prime as per instructions every single dose until I see liquid come out the needle.

There is still always more than enough additional liquid in the pen for a full dose of 0.6ml or more.

i do agree the term bonus dose or worse golden or magic is poor. it is nothing any different, it’s simply the additional volume of the exact same medicine left in the pen (due to them using an old pen design which takes a higher volume). I am normally rule following and risk averse but took time to look into this due to the high cost and sensible explanations on this forum. It is also possibly to take it within the 30 days from opening. Each person needs to make their own judgment on that and ensure they do it in a safe and sterile way should they choose to.

if you have an area with plenty fat (as most of us will!) then yes you can just go straight in. There are diagrams of technique for when you get thinner. Basically go in at a 45 degree angle and using a pinched skin fold so you don’t go straight down into muscle. It’s still not very long at all. I think some people prefer to get pen needles that are 0.6mm already.
