When I first started, I wanted to keep it a secret as I thought people might judge me for ‘cheating’ (daft, I know!) but now I’m steadily losing, if anyone asks how, I just tell them. I’ve only had one judgy comment and I responded by saying that how I choose to lose weight is my business. Everyone else has been fine and I’ve had several people ask me to explain how it works. I’m quite glad I’ve decided to be open about it as I think it’s helping to reduce stigma a bit.

Everyone is different of course and not everyone is comfortable with that. Just curious as to whether others are keeping it private or not?

I’ve said it on other threads but I might as well have a T-shirt saying I love Mounjaro! I tell everyone. No shame. Very few openly negative reactions, has mostly triggered questions and a large number of confessions of similar! It was some friends of mine telling me about their Ozempic experience that helped me go from curious to trying it for myself and it’s been a godsend for me. I don’t try and talk people into it but I’m happy to share my experience with it.

HansHolbein · 05/08/2025 20:09

Early on I didn’t. I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out myself and didn’t understand all the ins and outs.

If people ask now, I’ll tell them. If they are a particularly nosey person, I’ll keep it to myself.

tostaky · 05/08/2025 20:13

@frogpigdonkey my work colleague was happy to talk about it and i decided to try thanks to her. Very happy now!

SaintAgatha · 05/08/2025 20:13

I have told two friends. A lot of the people around me are dead against WLIs and seem to see them as an easy option. I think they’re the sort of people who like to maintain a hierarchy, and the slimness scale is their method of choice. Probably a smattering of internalised shame on my part, too. But hey, I’m two stone down and healthier than ever, and how I achieve that is nobody’s else’s business.

AsteriaBuffy · 05/08/2025 20:14

I'll tell anyone who's interested. Don't see any reason not to 🙅♀️

PermanentTemporary · 05/08/2025 20:17

I tell any women I know who says I look nice. The only real anti-WLI stuff I’ve heard was from a male friend of dp’s who I’m pretty quiet around anyway because there’s almost nothing we agree on, but I wasn’t going to expose myself to him as it were after a ten minute explanation of how bad they are.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 05/08/2025 21:26

I tell anyone who asks. Which has worked out well for me, as lots of friends and colleagues have decided to try it and when asked where I get mine I share my referral code with them so I’ve saved loads of money thanks to them! (As have they).

DartmoorWanderer · 05/08/2025 21:27

Yes. I’m very open about it. I know of at least 7 people who have started on them because of me and my progress on them. I’m always going to be honest about it because it feels disingenuous to lie when I know how hard it is to lose weight

SilenceInside · 05/08/2025 21:43

Nope, only DP knows. Not interested in any discussion with anyone else about it, as it's my private medical information. I don't discuss that with anyone else, typically and this is no exception. I also don't have any issue with lying to anyone who directly asks me if the weight that I've lost is down to weight loss injections, as it's none of their business and pretty intrusive to ask.

I might possibly make an exception if I was asked about how I've lost weight by a good friend who was obese and seriously wanting to know about the injections.

We might be in the minority but I’m with you 👍🏻

TheChosenTwo · 05/08/2025 22:32

I’ve not told anyone.
I think it’s rude bringing up someone else’s weight whether they’re larger or smaller (unless they’ve instigated a conversation about their own weight) and although a few people have commented about my weight and body shape changing I’ve just looked at them and changed the subject. They didn’t ever bring up my body shape when I was fat. Because it’s rude! Just leave me alone (is how I feel 😂).

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/08/2025 22:33

Yep, anyone who asks how I’ve lost weight. I feel like I would be being disingenuous to say that it’s all down to diet and exercise. As someone who has been obese since childhood and my entire adult life till now and failed many many many diets I know how hard it is to lose weight. So I don’t want to make anyone else feel bad that and like they’re not doing it right. Besides that I’m not ashamed of it, I think these medications are a medical miracle and should be made more widely available to those who need help losing weight, I want everyone to have the opportunity I’ve had if they want it.

I’ve only had one person be a twat about it and I just listened quietly then coldly told them that I’d heard their opinion and was done talking about it now. Everyone else had been genuinely interested and very happy for me, including the woman at Costa who I see every morning when we both pop in for our morning latte, who stopped me the other day to tell me how wonderful she thought my loss was and to ask how I’d done it.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 05/08/2025 22:34

I suspect that if you’ve lost a large amount of weight reasonably quickly everyone will assume you’re on the WLI regardless of whether you are or not…

threeeggsontoast · 05/08/2025 22:39

Love how everyone’s different. As I lose more, I feel more confident to talk about it more. I met up with some friends today and when I got to the table, they were saying ‘oh you look good…have you lost weight?’ I just said ‘I’m on the jabs, lads’. 😂 But then everyone was asking curious questions.

But I also agree with PPs who prefer to keep it private. It is absolutely no one else’s business.

simsbustinoutmimi · 05/08/2025 22:39

I did and now I’m embarrassed as I had to stop due to it making me throw up my anti seizure meds so I’m still 19 stone :( people keep asking why I’ve stopped losing weight

SilenceInside · 05/08/2025 22:40

People can assume what they like about my weight loss, I still don’t want to discuss it with anyone.

I think it’s important to be clear that I’m not ashamed of using WLI, and I am also of the opinion that they are a medical marvel. Which I would happily talk about with other people if it wasn’t in the context of a personal discussion about my own health and medical decisions.

I’ve also been obese since childhood and nearly all of my adult life. Everyone else already has the opportunity to access WLI (finances allowing) in the same way I have, they don’t need me to tell them that it’s an option. I’m not responsible for managing other people’s weigh loss, in the same way that they aren’t responsible for my weight. I also really really don’t think that I’m responsible for other people’s feelings, if they see that I’ve lost weight and feel bad or sad as a result.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 05/08/2025 22:40

No but only because no one has asked. They probably know since I’m a greedy pig and it would be baffling to my friends that I’m not any more. But I don’t care what they think, I also can’t be arsed talking about it with people who don’t get it

Disturbia81 · 05/08/2025 23:00

I think people should be open, same as if someone asks someone if they’ve had Botox etc.

frogpigdonkey · 05/08/2025 23:08

I have found that once my weight loss got really noticeable people were much more direct in asking, especially those I don’t know well. When I got past 3 stone loss the cashier in my local Tesco asked if I was on ‘skinny jabs’!

SilenceInside · 05/08/2025 23:09

@Disturbia81 do you mean if someone asks if a person has had Botox for cosmetic reasons, or if they ask if they’ve had Botox to treat a medical condition. Like excessive sweating, or muscle spasms, or overactive bladder?

Could you explain why you feel people should be open about things like cosmetic beauty treatments, as well as medical treatments like WLI? For me, I’m not at all interested if people have had Botox or fillers or whatever, I’d never ask and I’d not expect them to feel they had to tell everyone.

Because if someone asks me and I say no, it makes them feel bad that they are aging badly compared to me/others when actually I’ve had a bit of help.
Same with jabs.. they feel bad that they can’t achieve it naturally and feel better knowing others are getting help to do it. Also it might encourage them to try it too if they want.
We should help each other out as women.
Just my personal experience/opinion

SilenceInside · 05/08/2025 23:27

Ah ok. I don’t have any interest in “beauty” and don’t give it any value so I don’t see it as helping anyone out to make things like Botox normalised and something that’s seen as somehow required for women.

WLI aren’t a “beauty” thing though, although I can see where the confusion arises, as weight loss and being a desirable weight is similarly seen as something that women should prioritise. Rather than their health and well-being.

JBJ · 05/08/2025 23:57

My son, my cousin and my best friend. I was with my cousin and friend having a discussion about WLI when I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I have a couple of friends who are very judgmental about them, so I’ve just kept it to myself. If anyone asks, which a few have as I’m over 4st down now, I just say I’m calorie counting, which is true as I’m tracking everything I eat on Nutracheck and making sure I’m focused on protein and fibre. It’s just nice to be not struggling to stick to the calorie limit!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 06/08/2025 06:05

I just want to applaud @SilenceInside who’s speaking sense as usual! It’s nobody’s business what medication I take and there is no obligation for me to tell people so they don’t feel bad about themselves.

Mounjaro is a medication to treat a chronic medical condition that can lead to potentially fatal further conditions. It’s not a beauty aid to allow women to fit a misogynistic society’s expectations.

I’d also never ask somebody if they’ve had Botox and agree it’s not helping women in any way shape or form to make anyone think we should try to defy aging or need to ‘age better’. Women’s natural faces are beautiful whatever age they appear! In addition, what a woman chooses to do for her own self esteem is nobody else’s business and they don’t have to tell everyone about it.

DartmoorWanderer · 06/08/2025 07:02

To be fair, everyone who’s asked me about my weight loss has also struggled with their weight in their past.

one member of my family found out from a Facebook group, and told someone else. I was a little annoyed for a day or so, but got over it pretty fast!

I think for me, I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. I don’t think I could sit back and just say “I’m eating in a deficit and going to the gym!”, because I’m obviously using a tool that does make it easier to do that. I know how tough it is to do this and I don’t want to make people feel like failures.
