When I first started, I wanted to keep it a secret as I thought people might judge me for ‘cheating’ (daft, I know!) but now I’m steadily losing, if anyone asks how, I just tell them. I’ve only had one judgy comment and I responded by saying that how I choose to lose weight is my business. Everyone else has been fine and I’ve had several people ask me to explain how it works. I’m quite glad I’ve decided to be open about it as I think it’s helping to reduce stigma a bit.

Everyone is different of course and not everyone is comfortable with that. Just curious as to whether others are keeping it private or not?

I think it’s interesting that some people feel very responsible for other people’s possible feelings, to make sure that other people don’t feel bad. Whereas I very much feel that I am not at all responsible for how others feel in response to my reasonable and personal choices. That’s for them to deal with, not for me to proactively try to prevent.

That’s quite a cold way of being, but you probably already know you are different.

I don’t feel responsible for anyone’s feelings generally but would feel responsible if I lied to them and that made them feel bad. If I didn’t want to talk about WLIs and someone asked how I lost weight then I would say that I didn’t want to discuss it, but think that saying something like ‘I’m eating better and exercising’ would be misleading and could easily lead to the other person feeling they are just not trying hard enough or doing well enough. Given that the people likely to ask me how I lost weight are my friends, family and people I’m close to at work, they are people I like and would want to help and be honest with.

Ultimately this is my opinion, my feelings on the matter, how I choose to conduct myself. As with everything, I don’t expect everyone to agree with my viewpoint or choose to follow the same path.

Well said 🙌🏼

According to my dentist she has loads of patients at the practice who are taking weight loss medication. I think WLI’s have changed our small south east town, there is no one walking around bigger than a size 16 anymore. Sweaty Betty is doing a roaring trade.

It’s not “cold” to not be a people pleaser. It’s not “cold” to keep my personal medical decisions to myself, if that’s what I prefer. It’s possible to care very much about how other people feel, when it’s appropriate and psychologically healthy to do so.

Redlightbulb · 06/08/2025 13:31

I only told the family who I live with for a long time.. about 10 months in & wasn't planning on telling anyone else.
An older extended family member who I am closer to mentioned about my weight loss recently & I was in a good mood that day so let slip that I was on the jabs.
It went down well but I kind of regret it as I know that person is a bit of a gossip so I imagine the news will spread to that side of the family. I didn't ask them to keep it to themselves.
I am generally a private person and don't plan on telling anyone else.
Not looking forward to if someone directly asks me how I am losing weight...

Only my best friend and my DH. I’ve yo-yo’ed with my weight all my life and been under constant scrutiny from my mother, I told her a few years back to stop commenting on my weight. So I darent tell any of my family.

I dont like my weight to be up for discussion - even if its purported to be positive because its a compliment on the loss so I don’t discuss it.

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 06/08/2025 13:33

Also my average loss is 1.3lb per week so it’s not dropping off me.

👏🏻 my weight, body and choices are not up for discussion.

Where I live it would seem that everyone is on it - people keep appearing with very rapid and noticeable weight loss in a short space of time - so even if you don’t admit it I’m sure everyone will assume you are on it .
i asked my hairdresser if she had noticed and she said yes it’s an epidemic .. but that she’s noticing thinner hair and hair loss in those who had lost a lot of weight .

threeeggsontoast · 07/08/2025 09:04

I’m really surprised to read about the amount of people who are experiencing ‘rapid weight loss’. My experience plus that of the others I know is that MJ losses are very much in the normal range of 1-2lbs per week. I’m averaging (according to my app), 1.6lbs per week which is a comfortable, normal amount but the weight certainly isn’t ’dropping off’. Having said that, I’m glad! I don’t want to end up with sagginess plus I also want time (hopefully) for my brain and body to adjust to the new way of eating and living.

So far, I’m about 1 stone 4lbs down and no one has really noticed but I decided to tell people because I can’t eat much at social gatherings and I don’t want to lie. We had a couple of birthdays at work but I didn’t want cake plus there was a meal out and I knew I’d not be able to manage two courses. For me, it seemed easier to just tell people rather than pretend I wasn’t that hungry or that I had the tail end of a stomach bug.

I have told everyone, no negative reactions, my feeling is the negativity in real life is now diminishing as so many on the drugs now and more and more people being open about it. Negativity Seems to be now limited to a small minority on line and daily mail articles.😂

4 of my friends all on them now too, they all started after they saw my progress, and the reaction I get is usually “oh I want to try that”, two men two women. My husband also now on them, started a month ago, where as I was about ten months ago.

On thinning hair, my hair hasn’t ever been better, but I take collagen and biotin and ensure I eat sufficient protein, thinning hair is often down to poor nutrition, I also work out 6 days a week, so look toned and I only have a little loose skin on my under arms, the rest is fine, I’ve lost six stone too.i moisturise all over daily,

I don’t feel I’ve anything to be ashamed of here, in fact I’m proud I took control of my health, and I don’t really see it as my private medical info either, I would not hide if I used an asthma inhaler for instance, and was quite open when I had to take blood pressure meds, but appreciate others do not feel that way, I certainly wasn’t going to lead people to believe I could suddenly do it on my own, especially not folks who struggle with their weight themselves.

Great post! You’ve really done well negating all the negative side effects too which is fab, and shows people they don’t have to be inevitable.

I love Mounjaro and my new healthier, slimmer body and am happy to chat about it. Also my related addiction to Vinted. If anyone judges it says more about them than me, but everyone's been fine so far.

PringlesTube · 07/08/2025 16:30

I haven’t told my wider family, only my dh knows. One, I just don’t want everyone talking about my weight and how fat I was before. Two, I know some would read the scaremongering headlines and worry about me.
