Eating disorders and WLI

This may be a very stupid question, but is a “past” eating disorder a barrier to a prescription for WLI?

I have just submitted my request for a prescription and I saw that was a question asked. I completely understand that people who have suffered with eating disorders in the past could have a problematic relationship with WLIs but it got me thinking;

Many of us seeking this kind of support accept that we have a compulsion when it comes to eating, including binging. This can be an eating disorder. It’s often a big part of the reason why we’re overweight/obese. Does accepting that this is an eating disorder mean that the application may be denied?

I would also be concerned that if anyone previously had anorexia or bulimia, that’s not necessarily something that can truly be “cured”. There’s something biological about it (speaking from experience) and the thought process around food is always impacted by it. Is that a barrier to the prescription? Arguably, to be applying their BMI is at least over 27 so would that suggest one eating disorder has been swapped with another?

I'm basically trying to work out why that question is on the application.

It's for those people who have had diagnosed anorexia or bulimia, although it can be used I believe to actually help with bulimia symptoms.

I do believe over eating and binge eating are disordered eating but I don't think that's what meant by the application.

Some people swing between bulimia/anorexia and binge eating. Not mutually exclusive. Few people get treatment for binge eating so few people get a formal diagnosis of it, I suppose.
