Clicks to reduce dose or cold turkey

2 weeks on 12.5 and feel awful. Zero appetite, the thought of food makes me want to vomit and I have been sick.

This pen was going to be my last before one last month on 7.5 as this is the best thing to do according to my pharmacist
What could I expect if I just cut my loses and go cold turkey or is it advisable to reduce the dose to wean off gradually
Or is there a way to get a 7.5 dose from my pen to save actually wasting it ££££!!
Im basically at my goal weight now
Thanks

7.5mg from a 12.5mg pen is 7.5/12.5 * 60 = 36 clicks (or 0.36ml in a syringe if also using remaining liquid).

Jennysjamas · 02/08/2025 18:54

Of course, it's 36 clicks, you can get 240 clicks out of your pen before using a syringe to get the last dose, 0.6 is a full dose using syringe so work out accordingly.

Sorry, your prescriber recommends dropping from 12.5mg to 7.5 and then coming off?

Seriously?

Which pharmacy has come up with this idea please!?

How were you on 10mg? Maybe use 48 clicks of your pen to come down to 10. Or if even 10 was too much and you really want to drop to 7.5, take 36 clicks.

It’s an independent pharmacy and I do have to see the pharmacist regularly. He advised that this was the way to come off
I was absolutely fine on the 10mg, actually did 2 months on it. Regretting the 12.5mg big time 🙁

His suggested approach is extremely unusual. I work with a prescribing GP and she recommends moving down a dose at a time and staying on each graduation for as long as needed to get weight to stabilise.

There has been fairly limited research into coming off so far but what there is does show that those who titrate down slowly are more able to keep the weight off than those who stop abruptly. Anecdotally, many find the onslaught of hunger and food noise too much when stopping cold from a higher dose. That may not be the case for you and I can see it may be preferable to how you are currently feeling!

I actually found 12.5 too much for me and only managed a couple of weeks before dropping back to 10mg where I had been for 6 months. No side effects, just so little appetite and interest in food, I was worried I couldn’t fuel enough for the amount of exercise I do. That and I actually like food (which partly explains how I ended up 17 stone in the first place!!)!

I think in your case, I would come down to 10 for at least a few weeks (take 48 clicks from your 12.5 pen) and then drop to 7.5 and see if you want to taper more or stop as advised by your pharmacist.

Thank you, I will take your advice.

yesterday I ate half a tin of clear soup and a handful of chips. Was awake and throwing up at 3am. This is the first time I’ve felt anything like this since starting on the jabs and it’s frightening
I definitely need to start coming off and what you’re saying makes sense. So two reduced clicks to equal 10mg and then a month on 7.5mg?
Thank you again x

When you say chips do you mean fried chips in the British sense? Because I couldn't eat a chip for love nor money on mounjaro, one of the only times I have been sick is after eating something fried.
I don't eat ANYTHING fried at all I'd be sick as a dog.

Air fried skinny ones Just an handful. Only thing I thought I might fancy. There’s nothing I want to eat and the thought makes me feel ill
Not had this on any of the other jabs

Oh dear sounds awful, so you've increase the dosage every month without any side effects previously?
I'm on my sixth month and never gone above five, I'm still losing, have some suppression, and no side effects.
I'm 9stone 3 now, and will titrate down in small increments until I come off it entirely. Never asked for pharmacy advice because I think the majority are only interested in the money unfortunately. I've just followed my own instincts and been mostly fine, only been sick a couple of times and that was due to eating fatty foods, so I don't now. Do you have pepto bismol? That was brilliant when I did feel ill.

Sailed through it up till now, zero side effects apart from not fancying certain foods. Strangely yoghurt and anything remotely spicy!
I have taken pesto dismal so hopefully that will help. Going to take the advise given and use clicks to reduce next two doses and then go from there
Im pretty much at my target so happy to be reducing with a view to coming off completely
