Thinking about starting Mounjaro

I am thinking about starting Mounjaro and wondered if people could share their experiences on it? Did you suffer from any side effects?

I have about 3 to 4 stone to lose!

Thanks in advance.

I’ve just started. 2nd dose last night. I have around the same amount to lose. My first week was amazing. No side effects at all for me at this point (did the jab at night just in case so I would sleep through the worst but no issues at all). Straight away I found the food noise was gone. I have not felt hungry at all and had to remind myself to eat more than once. I was able to stop eating when full, enjoy smaller healthier meals and really don’t even fancy treats that I would have definitely eaten previously. I lost 6 1/2lb in week 1!!! Obviously it’s my first week so not expecting that to continue but I can honestly say it has been the best decision for me and I wish I’d done it sooner.

I’m now 9 weeks in, had a similar total to lose. Starting weight was 15st 1, I’m down to 13st 9. The 2.5 dose is still working for me with minimal side effects, very little hunger and food noise still absent. It’s an absolute marvel, I’m so glad I started it. I am exercising as well, walking and very basic resistance training.

SilenceInside · 29/07/2025 10:15

I have been on it for over a year now. I’ve had a couple of instances of side effects in the first few months, gastric, but short lived and manageable. About 1 in 10 people get those sort of side effects, so it’s relatively common.

For the last several months everything has been very straightforward and I’ve been losing weight consistently the whole time. I’m now just over 9 stone down with around two and half stone to go to my target weight. It’s been life changing for me.

Same here, still on 2.5. 14 weeks and 2st 4lb gone x

I started the injection on Friday night. I was so sceptical. I’m always thinking about food and I am greedy. I simply cannot believe the effects of this drug. I woke up the following morning and I didn’t feel hungry at all. My brain has just stopped thinking about food. It’s the weirdest thing ever. I thought this low dose 2.5 was just to build tolerance of the drug but it has totally dampened down my appetite. I’m only eating healthy, as I don’t feel the panic of being hungry and busy so it allows me the time to think about and plan my meals. I have lost 7 pound and it’s not even a week yet as today is Tuesday. I have zero side effects. I’m sleeping well. I have done a poo every day ! Which is not like me (TMI lol ). I was scared about side effects etc. it just seems too good to be true. I’m trying to use this as a reset. To get on track with healthy eating. To move away from processed food and snacks so I can have a lifestyle change. It’s way exceeded my expectations. I suspect the effects will wear off as time goes by. I intend to stay on lowest dose possible.

HappyWineDay · 29/07/2025 12:41

I've been on it about 6 weeks now. The only side effect I've experienced has been quite a lot of acid reflux, easily managed with Gaviscon and Rennie. TMI advance warning - my bowels have been a bit all over the place, but to be honest, that could just as easily be to the changes in my diet as opposed to a side effect. I'm eating much less and have completely cut out bread, rice, potatoes and pasta.

The weight is falling off me.. So I would say go for it. I suspect your only regret will be not doing it sooner!

Kernowmaidporth · 29/07/2025 12:59

What is the golden dose people are talking about ? Also when should you order your next pen ? Will they let you have it way in advance or do we have to wait ?

SilenceInside · 29/07/2025 13:01

The “golden” dose or whatever other twee name people give it is just the remaining medication in the pen after you’ve done the 4 standard doses from the pen. There is usually enough left for another standard dose, except that the pen will no longer turn as normal. So you can either try to break the pen mechanism so that it will turn, or use separate syringes to extract the medication.

SilenceInside · 29/07/2025 13:14

@Kernowmaidporth you can usually order your next pen after around 2 weeks, depending on the pharmacy. I usually order after doing dose 3, and I usually use the remaining medication to do a 5th dose. Ordering on the third week means the next pen usually arrives in plenty of time.

PearlsPearl · 29/07/2025 13:14

10 weeks in, 2 stone 1lb down, no side effects except constipation which hasn’t really bothered me. Only regret is not starting sooner. Good luck!

Prettychubster · 29/07/2025 13:20

I was on it for 6 months and lost 3 stone which was all I wanted to lose. However the side effects were too much for me, so I quit and haven't been on it for 6 months, have put a stone back on!
I can't bear sickness and nausea or a bad tummy and I felt ill all the time. So that's why I stopped mounjaro. I am now trying wegovy so fingers crossed it will have less side effects for me.

Good luck with it, you may be fine and will be able to tolerate any side effects.

Overtheatlantic · 29/07/2025 13:23

Just took my 4th dose, lost 5.3 kilos. I’ve had no side effects but I’ve had to stay on top of my protein intake as I’ve been caught out a few times and felt like I had low blood sugar.

idrinkandiknowthings · 29/07/2025 13:28

I've been on it since mid-Feb and so far have lost 3.5 stone. I did suffer with sporadic vomiting and one horrendous occasion where I was "both-ending". I increased my dosage slowly after that and since then have been fine (fingers crossed!!). I have noticed that my hair isn't as thick but hoping that will resolve itself.

I have a friend who is up to 7.5 and hasn't had any side-effects whatsoever.

I could never have shifted this much lard without it. Good luck!

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 29/07/2025 13:46

Wow there are some amazing losses on this thread! Huge well done to everyone! It’s brilliant stuff.

PorkerNoMore · 29/07/2025 13:50

I have only good things to say. I went from 13.6 to 9.6. I titrated upwards until I was on 15mg. I had no side effects whatsoever at any stage. In fact, I felt fantastic throughout.

I am no longer taking it but I’m continuing to slowly lose weight. My appetite has not returned and I’m hoping it might have gone for good. 😂

ZoeJudge · 29/07/2025 13:59

felt a bit sick twice in the year i have been on it and got messed about by two clinics.

With a excellent clinic now and have not had any side effects in months, couldnt be happier!

EveryDayisFriday · 29/07/2025 14:02

Oh that is good to hear, after the horror stories of raging hunger once the meds stop.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 29/07/2025 14:12

Have a read through some of the long running monthly threads on here and you’ll see how people are getting on. When I started last June, there was an amazing series of threads called ‘Continuing Mounjaro’ which had an incredible amount of information in them but they seem to have fallen by the wayside now.

For info, I have been on MJ for 13 months, lost 121lbs, more than halved my body weight, reached my goal, had mild constipation and diarrhoea on a couple of occasions, had a weird taste in my mouth for a while and completely changed my life!

SeaBaseAlpha · 29/07/2025 14:29

I have 8 stone to lose. I have been taking it for 5 weeks - just had my first 5mg dose this week.

So far I have only lost 2kg, which is frustrating given that it definitely has suppressed my appetite right from the start. However, I am aware that the first 2.5 dose may not have any effect.

The side effects have been mixed. I did feel sick and have diarrhoea in the first few weeks, although the nausea seems to have passed - I still get diarrhoea but I've always suffered from that anyway.

The biggest issue I've had is mental.. about 10 days ago I started getting extremely anxious, and essentially in constant flight or fight mode. I want to pace around like a caged tiger, and it almost feels like there's something inside the back of my brain I want to rip out. Last week was very unpleasant. It seemed to recede over the weekend but came back yesterday (24 hours after my next dose, but also my first day back at work for 3 days), although not as severe.

I am very bad at keeping myself hydrated at the best of times, and that is no doubt that I have probably made myself dehydrated especially with all of the diarrhoea, so it may not be the medicine itself but that I've got my body out of whack. I'm going to try to get hydrated and take some electrolyte powder and see if that will help. I want to continue as clearly with 8 stone to lose the rewards will hopefully outweigh the risks... but if this fight or flight mode continues I will sadly have to stop I think.

I'm certainly not trying to put you off, I think it's absolutely worth trying it! But just be prepared for the side effects and don't let yourself get dehydrated!

Allmarbleslost · 29/07/2025 14:56

I'm 7 months in and am very nearly at 4 stone lost. The main side effect I have is that it makes me very tired and lacking in energy for a couple of days after I inject. I've also had some mild constipation. It's one hundred percent worth it for me though.

janeylou25 · 04/09/2025 09:09

I just thought I would update this thread. I have been on Mounjaro now for 2 weeks and so far I have lost 7 lbs. I am very pleased with this result.

I have had a few side effects, low level nausea and some diarrhoea but nothing major that I can't cope with.

I am also still enjoying the food I am eating. This was one of my worries, that I wouldn't enjoy food anymore! But this hasn't been the case, I am just eating alot less than I was before.

Thanks for all the comments and experiences you all have shared with me.
