Restarting Mounjaro - anyone and to advise pleas

Sorry…. Can’t correct typos in title, should have proof read. should be “Anyone able to advise please?”

I last used the injection 7 weeks ago. I stopped for various reasons and am planning to restart. I stopped on 10mg (which hadn’t actually been working for a while.)

Should i start again on 10mg? And has anyone else stopped then re-started.. and did it work second time round?

If you stopped 7 weeks ago, you need to restart at 2.5mg and work your way up again.

I was on for 5 months last year, stopped for 6 months, and restarted 6 weeks ago; again, starting at 2.5mg. It definitely works second time around and is actually easier because i knew what to expect.

Thanks, just been reading and I think the website I was on was allowing me to order 10mg but maybe would have reviewed that before dispatching. It’s so expensive and I had virtually no are effects last time so was wondering if restarting at higher dose might be ok. Starting again probably more sensible.
Also considering Wegovy as I has stopped losing on Mounjaro.

I believe it's not within guidelines for your prescriber to restart you on 10mg after such a long break, but I've heard that 5mg might be possible.

Maybe let us know the reasons for stopping, as not many people have better success on Wegovy than Mounjaro, so a change may not be beneficial. Some people simply don't respond until at a higher dose.

For example: How had it worked for you before stopping and how long had you stopped losing for? Were you experiencing and acting on a reduced appetite? Did you calculate your TDEE and were able to eat within those calories? Were you drinking enough water?

Thank you for helping

i lost 3 stone over 5 months but most of that in first 3 months without having to count calories etc was easy, then lost very little in the last two months so thought I would try stopping and see if I could keep it up.

I have now gained 5 pounds in a couple of weeks (holiday/parties/meals out for special occasions havent helped).

I never drink enough water, need to improve that.

Maybe now is the time to calorie count, because you won’t lose any weight if your not in a deficit. I would recommend the nutracheck app, put in your details and it calculates your calorie allowance. As you lose weight, you need to eat even less to lose more weight.

Yes you are probably right, I need to put more effort in. It was great that it happened without even trying before but I guess that’s part of the reason it goes back on.

I lost 3 st 7lb and been off it since Easter. I've put on 5lb also but I had a holiday, multiple weekends out and away so I'm happy that's what I've only put on. But I've now stepped up the calorie counting and upped my exercise. I would try doing it that way first for a month and see how you get on. It sounds like you relied too heavily on mounjaro as you said you lost 3st with no cc and then weight loss stopped but that's probably because you weren't doing the work alongside. If you don't do the work to change your eating habits and exercising etc you'll never be able to maintain in the long-term

I know you know this but: mj is a tool. The real work comes from you and making healthy lifestyle choices consistently so that the weight doesn't come back. How you were eating when you were on mj and when you were losing the weight - can you do that again? Do you need the jabs? Are you hungry?
I'd try calorie counting, drink water, exercise and protein first, for a month or two and see where you are.

It just sounds like you have had an indulgent few weeks which is fine if not the norm.

CatsorDogsrule · 28/07/2025 13:48

It sounds like MJ was working, but you hit a bit of a stall / plateau while your body caught up with the initial 3 stone loss.

Personally, I'd go back on MJ, at the dose recommended by your prescriber - hopefully at least 5mg, but possibly 2.5mg.

You lost approx 1.8lb a week (I used 42lb over 22.5 weeks) which is perfect, as 1-2lb a week is the aim for a healthy loss.

Herecomesthesundodododo · 29/07/2025 08:45

I did track my calories at first but stopped.

Have ordered starter dose with one of the providers that does lifestyle support this time. Got step goals etc set up.

intetestingly 2 pounds lighter today, so
some of it might be natural fluctuation

Hi! I was on it for 18 months and I’m thinking about restarting after 3 months off as I’ve fallen off the waggon and gained a stone and a half back, I originally lose 8 stone in a year on it and then maintained for 6 months before coming off, I worked my way up the doses quickly so spent most of my journey on 15mg. Are you experiencing suppression on 2.5? I’d love to start again and just stay on 2.5 as a little boost of help, thank you!
