Mounjaro made me too ill, so switching to Wegovy

I was on Mounjaro for about 6 months and lost about 3 stone. However I was very ill with the side effects and actually ended up hospitalised at one point.

So I quit and now have put weight on again 😣

However I read up on injectables with less severe side effects and Wegovy seems to be a safe bet. I know every treatment will have it's own side effects, but is anyone on Wegovy who can tell me about their experience?
How was weight loss and your side effects?

Thanks!!

I'll be interested to hear how you do on Wegovy. 11 weeks in and I'm still suffering with diarrhoea and nausea on MJ, even on 1.25 mg. And most of the time I have tummy pain.
But the losses are good so I'm putting up with it for now. Good luck, and please keep us updated.

It's so great for weight loss isn't it but ultimately I was too miserable on MJ. Well done for persevering!

From my research Wegovy isn't as effective for the loss but seems more tolerable on the body. I have to send my video evidence to the supplier but fingers crossed I'll receive it by the end of next week and update how I go!

Great! I just ordered another MJ pen after stepping on the scales this morning so I'll use that up (slowly) before switching.

How about trying to lose weight without drugs that make you ill

How about not commenting on this board? Funny how this subject seems to wind people up so much?!

@BerfyTigot have you spoken to your prescriber? Having an upset stomach and pain for 11 weeks on such a small dose isn't good. (Not a criticism at all by the way, I am on WLI)

I'm only on my second week of Wegovy so no expert, but I had a day and half of fatigue after the first dose. Then a couple of very mild waves of nausea that lasted seconds. Apart from that no side effects really. I feel really good on it.

I chose Wegovy rather than MJ for the proven heart health benefits and also because it sounded a bit milder - works on 2 parts of the brain rather than 3. I havent had dramatic weightloss, only 3lb in the first week but I'm loving it so far.

That's really encouraging thank you! Good luck, keep us updated on your experience!

@Motnight I don't want them to take me off it, so I haven't fessed up to them that I'm taking half the dose. Though they must realise that I haven't ordered enough.

I've just started MJ again after a 3 month break as I couldn't tolerate the 2.5mg dose. I was fine until I got to week 3 then it was pretty horrific. I couldn't leave the house so couldn't work for a week. I wasn't sleeping either as the d&v seemed to be worst in middle of night. I lost a stone in 3 weeks. But that must have been because I couldn't keep anything down!

I've taken 1.25mg yesterday. So far so good. But you're not the first person to mention wegovy maybe being a better option. So if this fails, I will give it a go 🤞

CurlsLDN · 27/07/2025 13:23

Hi, I chose wegovy rather than MJ from the off, as it doesn’t prevent contraceptive pills working, so I can’t compare the two but I can just tell you my experience on wegovy.

unfortunately it made me very sick. I lost 23lb over around 5 months, and moved up through the doses on the recommended path, but from pretty much month 2 I was constantly nauseas. By the later months I couldn’t brush my teeth without throwing up. It was miserable and absolutely not worth the impact it was having on my day to day life.

I stopped, as I couldn’t bear it anymore and it can’t be good for me. I sort of wish I’d discussed with the provider or gp and tried lowering the dosage to a more tolerable level but I was so sick every day I had lost all enthusiasm for it, despite the excellent weight loss.

i Would try WLI again, but cautiously

What made you decide to come to a post on the WLI board and post this?

Toddlerteaplease · 27/07/2025 14:01

I’m on Wegovy. Lost a stone in 10 weeks. No side effects other than occasional nausea. But nothing serious.

Mysticmaiden · 27/07/2025 14:20

Some side effects can be food related. I'm on 15mg no side effects, it's very strong as I've only been on it 2 weeks and can barely eat, because im not hungry but i do force myself to eat and I'm fit as a fiddle. When I do eat, its usually protein and veg and i try to have protein at each meal. Some people have issues with high fat meals and others carbs. Would be worth keeping a food diary and seeing if basic, clean eating helps?

Comedycook · 27/07/2025 15:49

Im on wegovy...have lost a stone in just over six weeks...very few side effects for me. I have been a bit tired and lacking in energy and also constipated. Very very low level nausea the day after I jab but it's minor.
