Sorry, this is going to be a ‘TMI’ post …

After nearly a year and 6 stone gone with no more trouble than a bit of constipation, in the last month I’ve had two bouts of severe diarrhoea, and I think I’m working up to my third.😖

Starts with being a bit burpy (but don’t think I’ve actually had the famous sulphur burps) then the stomach starts churning, then the diarrhoea. I assume it’s caused by being a bit ‘bunged up’ and then food starts festering.🤢

After really quite problematic constipation when I first started on the drugs, I have kept on top of it for months with magnesium citrate at night. This is obviously not cutting it now, though.

I eat loads of fruit and veg, drink loads of water, and take probiotics daily. I am more or less in maintenance now, and eat plenty, but really it’s all healthy stuff as that’s what I am drawn to, so it’s not a reaction to e.g. pizza, fried food. My body definitely doesn’t want very rich and creamy stuff, in that I can have a forkful of e.g. a creamy type curry and think ‘yep, tastes lovely, but nope am not eating it’.

Any tips? I have seen some people refer to a particular brand of gut tablets, but I can’t seem to lay my hands on the name.

I had some vomiting and diarrhoea after about 10 months with no real side effects before, by that point I’d lost most of my weight and was moving towards maintenance.
I feel like it was because I’d lost the weight it was just too strong for me, I was on 10 so I moved down to 7.5 all was fine but had another couple of days of V&D after 3 pens, so I moved to 5, I’ve been on 5 for several
months now and no issues and my weight is staying within 1/2kg.
I’m happy to be moving down and currently don’t have any side effect, I’ve even stopped feeling cold which I had for months and my hair has stopped shedding.
What dose are you on? Are you still loosing?

Interesting … I am starting to work back down a bit now.

I suppose I am still losing a bit, as far as the general trend goes - goes up and down a few pounds depending on when I weigh, but in general the trend is very gradually down a bit. I am not at a ‘normal’ BMI, but I didn’t really intend to be, and am lower than my original goal by a decent way. I could stand to lose another stone easily, and might eventually get there, but am not actively aiming for it at the moment.

I don’t seem to be feeling the cold like I did in the winter, but then weather has been warm. Hair loss had dropped off a bit, but I feel it’s picked up again at the moment. Have had loads of hair loss, but was fortunate to start with extremely thick hair so it hasn’t been a major issue for me. (I do think the hair loss thing is directly connected to the medication, rather than to weight loss.)

Maybe going onto a lower dose may help even for just a few months, I’ve found although my weight is reasonably stable my shape is changing, I am doing more exercise but not a massive amount, mainly weights and I only do 15 min sessions, so I’m not spending hours, but my tummy has really reduced and my waist is smaller so there’s some type of readjustment going on in my body.
I’m just happy to not have gastrointestinal issues as they were really unpleasant, I had to take Pepto Bismal for a while as I had sulphur burps and tummy pains, but all of that seems to have gone.
I intend to stick on 5 for a few months then try 2.5, I may try to come off at some point, but I’m taking it slowly to see how my body adjusts.
