New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

Well, I managed a reasonably decent dinner and feel much better for it. Will see how the rest of the week goes before I make a decision. It would be good to know if you get the same next time @daisydreamies , I really don’t want to lose muscle or strength so I need to be able to eat properly

@Bunnie22really sorry you’ve had those side effects. As someone else mentioned you could try dropping down to 1.25mg (15 clicks from a 5mg pen - but please double check my maths if you decide to go ahead). Completely understand if you don’t want to though - that sounds horrific and guessing the slowest WL is that your body isn’t willing to let itself burn fat as it’s trying to deal with the SEs.

Doireallywanttodothis · 04/08/2025 09:03

Weighing one day late as just come back from 12 days away but lost 4lb over that period. Had a few drinks (probably more than was good for me) and ate 2-3 meals a day, light healthy ones and stopped when I was full (most of the time less than halfway through my meal). Now need to try and get my protein back up and start considering exercise options. Was seriously worried about how unfit I was when I went on holiday but did a lot of walking while away some up hills/steep steps etc… and there has been a noticeable improvement in my moving and resting HRs on my Fitbit so want to continue to work on that.

Did have some nausea but think that was when I’d had a glass too many of wine (much less than I would have had previously!).

So total WL over 3w is 11lb. Really pleased with this. Can’t see a difference yet but went to put on some clothes that I haven’t worn for a while (quite a temp change to acclimatise to!) and they’re definitely looser so a NSV there.

daisydreamies · 04/08/2025 09:51

Good morning! Today is weigh in day (and I finally have some fancy smart scales) and I’ve dropped another 1kg. I seem to be losing a steady 1kg a week which I’m really happy with! I use happy scales to track and it has a scale of bmi and it’s so nice seeing it slide down more into the overweight category and further away from obese every week

SW 82.9kg
CW 76.4kg
GW 60kgish - I’ll decide when I’m closer, I used to be 60kg but I have since had a baby and I’m late 20s now compared to teens so not sure if that weight will be comfortable/look good

AirborneElephant · 04/08/2025 11:00

Morning! Weigh in day for me as well, end of week 6.

SW 88.9kg, 37.0% body fat
CW 79.7kg, 33.9% body fat
GW 65-70kg, <30% fat

Woohoo, in the 70s! 🎉 That’s an average of 1.5 kg a week which is right at the top of ok, but muscle mass is holding steady after initial 1kg loss.

I’ve just booked a holiday next year for my 50th. Really hoping to feel good in a sundress and swimming costume.

Nellieinthebarn · 04/08/2025 13:08

I went up to 5mg on Saturday, felt rough yesterday with headaches and nausea, but today I woke up feeling ok. Suppression is good so far, but not so good I'm not looking forward to having lunch.

Also have a major NSV to report, I bought some size 14 jeans on Vinted as an incentive. They came today, and they bloody well do up! I wouldn't want to wear them all day, but the fact that they do up at all is amazing. It made me a bit emotional tbh. I was heading towards an 18 at the end of June. And I'm short.

Hoping that all of you who are having bad SE feel better soon.

AirborneElephant · 04/08/2025 13:30

Woohoo. Well done @Nellieinthebarn , it’s so great to be able to fit a size down. I haven’t bought any new clothes yet but was really pleased to be able to properly fit into my 16 trousers. Hoping to 14 soon, another inch or two on the hips needed for that

jagorjab · 04/08/2025 14:07

@Bunnie22i am sure this was done with good intentions, but you absolutely cannot sell prescription medication. It’s not only hugely inadvisable for anyone to buy medicine from an anonymous person online, it’s illegal for you to sell or give it to anyone at all. I’ve reported your post but you should report it yourself to get it removed quicker.

*edited as I see it’s already been deleted while I was typing this so you/others must already have reported. Sorry you’ve had a bad experience, you could try taking low dose as others advise since you have the pen anyway. Best of luck.

Yeah, thanks very much! Do you think I havnt already tried lower doses then?!

jagorjab · 04/08/2025 14:33

I’ve no idea what you’ve done before@Bunnie22i don’t follow this thread closely, was just having an browse of the active WLI threads and stopped scrolling (in reverse chronology) when I saw someone trying to illegally sell prescription medication on mumsnet. I really value this board so do report stuff that might endanger its existence. Only posted as well as reporting to be nice in case you really didn’t realise how unacceptable that was.

you’re welcome. I’ll leave you *July folks to your chat.

Day 5 of 5mg and I still feel wiped out. Suppression slightly less today, thank god but energy levels still really low.

VordLoldemort · 04/08/2025 16:49

Hi all, well done on everyone’s losses. Just done my 5th week, and my first week of 5mg.
No real side effects, struggled to eat for the first 4 days. Got more in and managed to nicely balance it out over the remaining 3.
Down another 3lbs which brings me to 14lbs down.

Warmcupoftea · 04/08/2025 19:56

@VordLoldemort That’s a fantastic amount, well done

1023nina · 04/08/2025 22:24

well 24 hrs after 5mg dosage, headache sick really bad, and butps and trapped wind that made me cry, only managed to eat one meal that didn't stay down long, rough ass sleep, woken up this morning feeling better, I made myself eat and you know what today I've been much better.

my sugar levels are creeping back up so may have to start injections again, will be only doing very small amount to make sure in between 5-7, I've been around 8-9 all day...

top tip for myself eating something make SE better for me as it stops them.

TMI but toilet habbits been better last 72 hrs too....

I guess it's all about what works for yourself.

question i put to you all, are you taken any vitamins collagen etc?

W6 D1 Started 5mg last week and my only side effects were a bit of nausea and a headache for a day. I had a lot of suppression until Saturday, but Sunday I was really hungry. It was like the suppression just wore off all the sudden. I had to use will power to keep on track yesterday for sure. I’m down another 1.2lbs/.54kg this week.

SW: 88.35kg
CW: 84.36kg

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 04/08/2025 22:49

I take a multivitamin, just a standard one, but no collagen as I'm vegetarian.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/08/2025 23:30

I decided to go straight to 5mg from 2.5 rather than go in the middle. Partly because I'm a rule follower 🙈 and partly because my suppression wore off a lot over the weekend. Took the jab a few hours ago and feel.fine so far, fingers crossed I get through the next few days with minimal SE. I've been pretty lucky so far with just a day of sulphur burps and some mild constipation but I know the higher doses can make a difference.
I'm actually looking forward to feeling the suppression again, it's just so much easier to just need to eat for fuel than to try to balance an appetite with eating well. Having the food noise again over the weekend made me realise just how easy it is to go on auto pilot with eating unless you really pay attention.

Emmeline50 · 05/08/2025 05:57

I am loving seeing everyone's progress!

I am so happy with how much energy I have at the moment, I have been walking and strength training. It is winter in Australia and we live in a particularly cold (for Australia) part of the country. I have psoriatic arthritis and I normally spend July & August hibernating until things warm up a little.

Still no junk food cravings though the food noise had definitely started to grow a couple of days before my last shot. The annoying thing is I have realised today that my doctors appointment for next pen is going to be four days after I would have taken the next shot. Going to be interesting to see how those days go.

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 05/08/2025 08:47

End of week 5 (on 5mg) for me and a loss of 2.75lb. Taking my Total loss to 14.75lb which is incredible. It has taken me 6 months to lose that in the past.

SW: 12st 8.5lb
CW: 11st 7.75lb
TW: 8st 10lb

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 05/08/2025 11:37

Just took the plunge and told DH I'm on the jabs (next pen arrived and I wanted to keep it in the fridge, until now I'd been keeping it all in the cupboard under the stairs!).

AbitSceptical · 05/08/2025 11:49

Yay! Found you July-ers on this new thread. I've been away for a couple of weeks on holiday so thought it was time for a check in.

I'm just ending week 5, but my injection schedule became a bit off during my holiday as I only jabbed once whilst away. I've stayed on 2.5 ml as I want my weight loss to be slooow to give me time to change habits and get fit.

I have had a couple of fits of dizziness / low blood pressure. Not sure whether I will be able to go up to 5ml anyway.

Off to read the thread and catch up. 😊

SW 89.1 kg
CW 85.7 kg
TW 72 kg

Fine, he didn't really say much. I'd only delayed telling him as I felt a bit embarrassed.
