Should I try mounjaro again?

I started MJ in January this year. I was on it for 7 weeks, did 4x2.5mg jabs and 3x5mg jabs.

I didn't find the appetite suppression super strong although I did have the odd week where I didn't feel like eating for quite a lot of the time.

I came off it because I thought it was making me anxious (I take anti-depressants). I didn't really get any other side effects though except the burping / tasting of food eaten the previous day for the couple of days post-jab.

However my weight is spiralling and I have a very unhealthy relationship with food. I use it to make me happy and binge on absolute crap / takeaways / sugar etc.

I am therefore seriously considering giving MJ another go. A proper go this time - using it alongside a healthy eating plan / cutting out booze etc.

What would you recommend? Anyone else in the same boat - stopped then started again?

I stopped in September due to side effects - I went all out no carbs and felt really ill I lost 12kg. Started again 4 weeks ago. I have lost 6kg in that time. Not really had many side effects, the odd headache, a little diarrhea to begin with and a little constipation now, I have for the first time in the last couple of weeks had times when I have felt anxious which is something I don't normally suffer with. I am hungry but have no appetite if that makes sense. I am eating very small amounts of food each day - I am having to make myself eat. Last time I could tolerate a couple of glasses of wine - this time I just don't want or enjoy it.

One of the questions you are asked is if causes mood changes. If it lessened your mood, I would seriously consider not going on this product.

Speak to your GP. Maybe they’ll increase your AD’s to counteract but honestly? I wouldn’t risk any product that risked my emotional well-being. Sorry OP.

I have actually increased my dosage of AD.

I just feel like overeating and my obesity is seriously damaging both my physical and mental health.

It definitely causes a huge increase in anxiety for me. For several days after a jab I feel super anxious. I'm not sure if it's related to the way it affects blood sugar because I am very sensitive to my blood sugars being low when I'm not on the jabs? It helps that I know the anxiety is caused by the medicine and isn't real but it does feel horrid. I am going to stop soon, probably a bit short of my target but it's at the point the anxiety is not worth it now.

First time round when I was on Wegovy, I thought that perhaps it made me anxious. I wasn’t sure and I came off the Wegovy and remained anxious. Then I started Mounjaro and the anxiety went away. Since then, I’ve come off Mounjaro due to other side effects gone back to Wegovy and I don’t think it’s making me anxious. I kept a diary during the time I came off it to monitor the anxiety and see if it was related that might be a good idea if you try again. It’s not worth risking your mental health.

To give it a proper go you probably do need to go up to 7.5 or 10 mg to see if it will suppress your appetite. Lots of people don’t have much effect on the lower doses.

Happyapplesanspears · 21/07/2025 13:33

I didn’t get proper suppression until I was on 15mg and even that took a few weeks at that dose.

I did find myself anxious so upped my HRT and it knocked it on the head.

Defiantly41 · 21/07/2025 15:21

I think differently - the anxiety was always there but masked/anaesthetised/stuffed down by self-medicating with food. When unable to eat as much especially sweet stuff, anxiety was more noticeable.
learning to deal with it without shutting it up with food is a challenge!

IdontknowwhatIamdoing1 · 12/09/2025 10:09

I am back on it - currently on first week of 5mg.

haven’t had major suppression so far…
