Feel such a fraud - lots of friends now on MJ but I haven’t told anyone

I’ve been on MJ since November and have lost 2.5 stone. Have told people I’ve been fasting/doing Slimfast which they know I’ve done successfully a few times in the past. But in the last month a few friends have told me that they’re taking MJ. I hate lying and now feel I’ve lied for too long to come clean and worry that my friends would hate me for lying for so long. I’m nearing maintenance now but just feel so dishonest, haven’t even told my DH 🤦‍♀️

Oh love I feel for you. There is a weird stigma and people don’t talk about it. The friends will be OK. You DH is more difficult. Why didn’t you tell him?

Absentmindedsmile · 17/07/2025 20:38

Most of them will know you’re on a weight loss drug anyway, of course. No problem, tell them or don’t none of their business if you’re not happy to divulge.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 17/07/2025 20:40

It’s none of anyone else’s business.

If you actively want to come clean you can say you’ve gone into it for the final straight but, who cares, honestly.

BrendaSmall · 17/07/2025 20:44

The only person I’ve told is my husband, I’ve not even told my adult children

MeridaBrave · 17/07/2025 20:54

Who even cares how you lost it? Tell your DH perhaps and see how that goes but I don’t think it matters either way with the friends.

TheChosenTwo · 17/07/2025 20:57

I haven’t told anyone either, not dh, not friends or family. No one has really commented thank god, my weight and my body is no one else’s business. Mil has been doing some kind of Michael Mosley diet thing for a couple of years and has asked how I found losing weight - I just said I was doing okay thanks, and that I was finding it easier the longer I did it.
Obviously dh has noticed but he’s also seen me eating smaller portions and much healthier than before. Barely any booze and no snacking. He’s not asked, I’ve not told him.

Nursejackiethomas · 17/07/2025 20:59

I didn't tell anyone either, my body my business, if your mates divulge so what?
Some will ASSUME you're on it, fuck em.
I didn't tell my husband, cos frankly it's fuck all to do with him either.

Jamclag · 17/07/2025 21:07

Don't feel bad - your reluctance to be honest is understandable. The stigma around using weight loss drugs seems to be replacing the stigma of being fat. You can't win.

At least three of my neighbours have lost a sizeable chunk of their body weight in the last year. I'm guessing after years of struggling with their weight they've finally found something that works for them - presumably Mounjaro - and all I think when I see them is good for them!

SilenceInside · 17/07/2025 21:08

Meh, I haven't told anyone apart from DH and I'm not going to. I don't feel dishonest or a fraud, I simply regard it as personal medical information and I don't share that with anyone else. If people directly ask me about my personal medical information I don't have any qualms about not telling them the truth about it.

Fraggeek · 17/07/2025 21:12

My friends now I suffer with anxiety/depression but don't ask how I manage it.
Same with MJ. There's far too much stigma attached to it and I cba with getting into debates about it.

So I don't say anything.

SparklyBrickViper · 17/07/2025 21:19

I’ve told nobody.

After another month I’ll be in maintenance dose territory. Some people have asked if I’ve lost wait, but nobody’s asked how. If anyone does ask I usually say “oh you know eat less” because that is true…

lookathatbookcase · 17/07/2025 23:08

I've told 4 people in person.

One person is a friend who lives in America, and is also on MJ (she raised it first when I saw her last year).

One person is a friend who I suspected of being on MJ because of some weight loss - we went out for lunch, I noticed she was ordering small portions, I told her about being on MJ, she said 'me too'.

One person is a friend who lives in Germany and who is one of the most open-hearted sweethearts I know. I told her last month when she was over, she was lovely and supportive.

One person is my hairdresser.

That's it. I'd like to be more honest - I've had a lot of 'you're looking so well' comments from people who I think aren't quite pinning it to weight loss as I'm also growing my hair and have gone blonder in the past year. But there's also so much rubbish from other people so I'm very careful.

Pyjamatimenow · 17/07/2025 23:10

They probably suspect. It’s really not that big of a deal or very interesting.
