Slow to lose.....

.... Wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I'm 6 weeks in using mounjaro 5mg but have seen minimal loss (0.9kg). I feel frustrated a I am eating regularly with a calorie deficit and exercising well.

I do take thyroxine for hypothyroidism and 2 blood pressure tablets for hypertension. Does anyone have any advice if they take these drugs? . Wonder if these medications (amlodipine and Ramipril) are affecting the efficacy of the mounjaro. Feel like giving up to be honest. And it costs so much.

You’re not doing anything wrong. It’s a long term process and some people need the higher doses to see significant weight loss.

Having said that, it’s worth reassessing your calorie deficit and double checking with weighing/measuring that your totals are accurate. And that your TDEE is correct. Just be certain that you’re in a meaningful calorie deficit.

I take amlodipine for high BP and it’s had no impact on the effectiveness of Mounjaro for me. I have seen lots of posts on the Weight Loss Injections boards from people who take thyroxine for hypothyroidism who often find that the weight loss is slow, and that it takes the higher doses of Mounjaro to really get the weight loss going. So perhaps it’s the hypothyroidism that’s impacting on the weight loss?

Thank you, I I really hope so 🤞.

Weigh and measure everything for a week, be super conscious about portion sizes and think about decreasing your calories by 100 and up your steps by 1000. Make sure to get 2litres of liquid in.

it’s frustrating when you stall or go slowly, but if you eat in a deficit consistently the weight will come off.

I feel your frustration, but do keep going! With your thyroid and medications it seems quite likely that your body needs a bit more persuasion that the 5mg to start parting with the weight, but it will eventually when you get to a higher dose. Also are you checking the mirror as well as the scales? I'm menopausal and insulin resistant and my body really doesn't want to let go of the kgs, but looking in the mirror I can see that things are very slowly shifting, although I seem like you to have the kind of body that needs a bit more than a hint from this medication... To compare I lost a lot of weight on Wegovy, then stopped taking it because it was so expensive. I managed to put some 10 kg on over almost a year before deciding that going it alone without the medication was too tough, so decided to try Mounjaro instead. So I don't have lots to lose but have come around to the idea that I'm probably not coming off these meds for a long time. Anyway, with Wegovy the effect was instant, I lost loads of weight initially, but also had to contend with quite bad side effects. With this it seems to start at very low dose which I'm barely noticing (on 5mg like you), but that also means I have no side effects. So although the wait is frustrating, I really don't miss those sulphur burps... So I think do keep going, if you are managing a calorie deficit your body can only resist for so long.

I have been advised to persist, as that is the pharmacy protocol and review after 3 months, to see how I'm going. I did wonder if switching to wegovy may be an option though so may explore that. Thank you.

I have an underactive thyroid and PCOS and am finding the weight loss slow. I’ve just gone up to 10mg. I feel so much better even if I haven’t lost lots of weight yet.

I'm about to commence on 7.5 this week
