Hi All
I know, I know this was completely foolish, inexcusable and damnwell blimming dangerous but has anyone else stupidly used an old syringe and needle for injecting a bonus dose?! And been ok? Likewise been harmed?? I feel sick with worry.

I’ve done 4 BDs before successfully using reputable medical grade single use syringes but this time I was distracted by the noise coming from next door, and only went and loaded up an old (maybe 2 months or even 3 !?) used unwrapped unsterile one I’d grabbed from my private locked Mounjaro drawer (I've just got a new sharps box and was about to chuck the old ones in ) and obvious got befuddled and didn’t realise til after the deed was done 😬 I don’t know what possessed me I’m normally meticulous about it all !!

I injected into my stomach and it was really hard to penetrate the skin so I harpooned myself hard to the right depth still not twigging on it was a blunt needle and it all seemed ok. No pain but as I withdrew the needle a blustery bump appeared and it’s up like a 1 cm marble with a purple centre. I’ve rotated sites always and it’s well away from my belly button.

Any words from anyone who has done this terrible action before ? And will admit to it ? Will it go down. Were you infected?

thank you 🙏

Well, there’s no point in saying what you already know about putting used sharps in a sharps bin, and not getting distracted when you’re injecting….

You might get an infection, the bump is probably because it was blunt and you had to press hard. Nothing you can do now other than keep an eye on it really. Be aware of the signs of cellulitis, hot, red, swollen etc.

I am always surprised at how casually some people are injecting. I’ve been doing this a year now (and also for the last 7 weeks B12 injections every other day) and every time I do it, especially a bonus dose, I get everything I need out in a clean/clear area and double check everything is right before starting. Then quick check again before injecting. Then make sure everything is disposed of/put away safely after.

Hope you don’t have any adverse reactions. Keep an eye out for infection and speak to 111 promptly for advice if anything looks hot or red.

You were careless. You are also human!!!
I haven't done this but at least it was yourself who had previously used the said needle and not someone unknown.
Observe for any unusual signs that may suggest infection but forgive yourself. X

Draw a circle around the bump with a biro and seek urgent medical attention if it starts growing, or you see lines ‘tracking’ from it.

I use one for the whole pen. You’ll be fine unless you picked it up off the street.

May I ask why when you're sent enough for 1 weekly and spares?

Why? And you cannot say “you’ll be fine” as using a single use needle for multiple uses has obvious infection issues. And, why would you, when needles are cheap?

Why? I'm genuinely intrigued as to why you would do that.

Thanks so much for your advice.
I absolutely agree with you, we all really need to concentrate on the task at hand with 100 % focus . Always!

Thank you for your kind words . I feel calmer now and it’s going down a bit already.

Never again that’s for sure !

Another one wondering wtf?

MeridaBrave · 12/07/2025 23:37

Watch for sign of infection. And always always put used needles in sharps bin. Go through drawer now and bin any old needles.
