Going on holiday

I've been using mj for 14 weeks now and am getting close to my target of a healthy bmi. I'm due to go on holiday 3 days after my next injection is due and am un sure what to do. It's an all inclusive holiday and I would like to be able to have a few cocktails, eat 3 meals a day and try some new foods. Currently I'm eating very light during the day with a reasonable sized evening meal, no alcohol. I don't calorie count but guesstimate I'm eating 1200 calories most days.
Do I skip the injection and just take it when I get back? Do I take a smaller dose? I'm taking 5mg at the mo.
How have you/would you tackle this.

I'm only on holiday for 1 week.

It's really up to you and how you find it affects your appetite. I do similar in that I don't eat breakfast and have a light lunch and a normal evening meal. Personally, I would carry on taking as normal but I don't get any side effects and have been able to eg go for dinner and have a few drinks with no issues.
Skipping a dose or cutting down a dose are equally valid options

I would take the 5mg shot as usual and go and enjoy my holiday!

SilenceInside · 11/07/2025 16:51

I take it as normal when away on holiday, and enjoy myself regardless. You can eat three times a day and try new foods without overeating.

It totally depends on how you feel. I have almost reached my target weight and am currently on an AI holiday. I didn’t take my jab this week because I didn’t want the low level nausea I tend to have, but equally I am sure I will have gained weight. I have been on it almost a year though, so reaching a point where I need to get used to having the occasional week away or night off and then getting straight back to it rather than letting it be the start of a downward spiral!

I took mine after a 13 day break last year and I’m planning on exactly a 2 week break this time. The pharmacy advice to me (when discussing a supply problem) was that you have a two week window within which to take a dose of the same strength.

I’m having the same dilemma at the moment. I’m 3 months in and until the last couple of weeks fully intended to take my dose as normal, right before leaving for a week and then my next only 24 hours late when I get back.

but since settling into 5mg and the warmer weather I have quite a bit of low level nausea for 2-3 days and don’t enjoy food some of the time I have to make myself eat for fuel and can’t stand wine. (Relevant not because I want to have loads but it’s France!) This is our first holiday abroad in several years and I don’t want to be struggling to eat out at all and spoil it for myself or the rest of the family.

now considering either taking 30clicks for 2.5 mg before I go instead, or skipping entirely. Would be good to hear from anyone who has done the same.

PowderPants · 11/07/2025 17:37

Have had this dilemma few times. I half the dose so I get some suppression and then go and enjoy my holiday!
This has meant that each time I go on holiday I can eat normally, don’t gain weight (equally don’t lose) and then come home and go back on my usual dose!

I jabbed the day I went on our AI holiday. What a mistake! My usual symptoms were worse, sickness and nausea and I couldn’t eat a thing. Maybe it was the heat? Decided not to jab the dose I had with me for the second week and what a difference! Was able to eat and drink, no way near as much as I usually would. Put on 2lb which came off quickly once I got home. And enjoyed my holiday so much more. I won’t jab before a holiday again. It’s a moment in time that we look forward to and work hard for. A couple of weeks blip is nothing in the marathon that is your journey. Enjoy your holiday!

It’s sounds to me like you are eating well on the Mounjaro if you are managing a normal meal in the evening and lighter meals during the day so I would stay on your dose and add in a couple of alcoholic drinks. it’s a mindset thing to think a holiday is only enjoyable if you over indulge but if that really is your main priority then just miss a dose.

wendywoopywoo222 · 11/07/2025 17:42

I only use 2.5 and don’t get any side effects so I adjust the days by doing every 8th day on the weeks leading up to my holiday so that I inject the day before I go and then the day after I get back. Good luck and have a lovely holiday.

mounjaroholiday · 11/07/2025 17:54

It's not that I want to overindulge, more that I want to enjoy my food. At the moment I'm not really fancying anything during the day, but eat something because I should. I'm away with dh and he will want his 3 meals a day and I don't really want to be sat there just picking at a couple of bites, meals are a social time.
I think I'm going to skip the dose but try and be mindful of eating well - protein and lots of salad rather than 3 or 4 courses at every meal (yes, even breakfast Blush) like I would normally do on holiday.
