Mounjaro appetite

Hi, i took my first dose (2.5mg) of mounjaro around 8pm last night. Can anyone advise how long it takes to start suppressing appetite? I’ve eaten pretty normally for me so far today and although I’m not ravenous, I could definitely eat again! I’m sure I’m just being impatient to not feel hungry but I’ve read that it can start to work within a few hours so worrying the dose isn’t high enough for me and I’ll need to wait 4 weeks to up to 5mg! Any shared experiences welcome! TIA :) x

I took my first jab on a Monday evening and by the next morning I had suppression and didn't really fancy eating.

2.5mg is the loading dose though so while it does work for some, others it doesn't have much of an effect straight away.

It also takes a while after injection to reach its peak, so could be 24-48 hours after your jab you feel it more.

Yep, anything between a few hours, to never. It's individual. Some people respond almost immediately, some after a day, some after a few weeks, some after going up to the higher doses, even up to the top dose of 15mg, and for some it never really works.

I was very fortunate that I felt the effects the afternoon of the day I did my first injection, but that is not the usual experience so don't worry if you don't notice anything yet. The amount in your system is still rising, it reaches a peak after about 72 hours and then falls again. There will still be medication in your system next week when you inject again, so the amounts will gradually build with each 2.5mg injection.

2.5mg is absolutely not a loading dose.

@blunderdul I think a lot of people incorrectly think a "loading dose" is a low starting dose, rather than what it actually is, which is a high starting dose of a medication to load your system with an initial high amount of that medication, before moving to a lower continuing dose.

And yes, 2.5mg is not a loading dose!

riverislanjeans · 09/07/2025 13:38

@blunderdul Ok, starting dose.

People call it different things … my point is, without picking on how I said it is that 2.5mg doesn't work for everyone.

People shouldn’t call it different things if they are incorrect.

@blunderduli love how on this site people like you can derail a thread and not actually give the OP any advise or answer the question that’s been asked because your too busy trying to prove a point.

I said ok, my bad, starting dose.

You knew the point I was trying to make.

but carry on… being right is obviously more important than offering advise the OP has asked for.

@riverislanjeans We are all imperfect and make mistakes, I actually prefer someone to let me know when I make a mistake rather than let me go around repeating the same thing and looking like a prat. So I find the quickest thing to do is not be oversensitive and defensive, especially when you realise you are wrong, and thank them for it (either with an emoji or quick post) to prevent the thread derailing.

Thankfully the use of loading dose and other incorrect terms is not as prevalent on this board now due to posters letting others know and preventing misunderstandings or confusion.

@SilenceInside has given very clear answers so no need to expand on that. Good luck @Pineapples1986 !

For me 2.5 was instant but only lasted 2-3 days first and second jab , 3rd 4th not at all but in the 4 weeks I still lost 8lb mainly water weight

5mg for 8 weeks worked throughout but stalled in weight the last 4 weeks on it

4 weeks on 7.5 worked jab 1 and 4 lost a decent amount

now on second week of 10 mg and very strong not in fullness but no appetite

this is not a quick win and takes time mindful eating loads of water and excersize , my curve is far from linear and I have woshes and stalls but it works. I lost 37 lb (almost 3 stones) 15% of starting body weight in 4 months so far (have another 3 st to loose so about half way there)

Histoscientist · 09/07/2025 21:02

I don't feel any suppression until 3 days after injecting. Until I got to 12.5mg and now its the next morning. 2.5mg is also a small dose and a friend of mine said she had no suppression but noticed she wasn't snacking as much.

Find your month thread on here and join it. Honestly really great having a group of people in the same position and going on the same timeline. My month thread has been so supportive, informative, and fun!

JustPinkFinch · 09/07/2025 21:06

How are you feeling now, OP? I jabbed my first ever dose about 1pm. I seem to recall around 7/8pm I started to feel it may possibly be working but wasn't sure. Next morning I knew it was definitely working. Not because I lost my appetite, but because my willpower became amazing and small portions + healthy choices were no longer a struggle.
