Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

1000 replies

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

Another 1lb off for me this morning - having a mini whoosh after my mini plateau! I've upped my water over the past week and done handweights religiously each evening - seems to have made the difference 💪

@MooBaggage have a look at wheat free bakery direct. I get stuff like pizza bases and pitta breads from here for the youngest because he says they're the only ones worth eating. They also do all sorts of GF stuff you don't find in the shops.

You do need to freeze or eat it ASAP because it really doesn't last though.

The only gluten free thing I have ever liked is lemon polenta cake. I have a gluten free friend and she serves up the most appalling food and we have to pretend that it’s just like the real thing. 3 of my children are lactose intolerant and I’m pretty sure that I am too, but I love dairy so much I can’t admit it.

MooBaggage · 09/07/2025 08:45

I'm gluten free and lactose free so am a joy to cater for 😀

@MooBaggage if you are open to trying again the Teapigs peppermint and licorice tea is delicious.

Sorry if someone has already said this but as a word of warning anyone with high blood pressure needs to be careful with licorice. Even small quantities can have quite a dramatic effect on blood pressure if you already have hypertension.

I’ve had zero success with the alternative pastas/rices.i strongly caution that no one should ever try those ‘zero noodles’ I knew it was too good to be true, they’re basically no calories but they are konjac root in noodle form. The most unpleasant texture imaginable and stink like gone off fish. I just don’t bother any ore and either have a very small portion of normal pasta/rice or have a complete alternative like green beans and don’t try to pretend it’s something it isn’t.

thank you for your service @InfoSecInTheCity I've never tried those zero noodles and I never will.

"corgetti noodles" (courgette) are excellent low cal noodles. They hold their shape really well when heated gently. Great with asian foods in place of noodles, as spagetti/pasta substitute under pasta sauces, or simply tossed with garlic, herbs & olive oil.

I have a spiraliser I use to make them.

Today I am channelling 2002 in a retro Gap a line denim skirt and Desiegal colourful tshirt - both items I've held onto for some reason and I'm glad I did.

Im doing my second jab this evening and will weigh in the morning eeeek how has everyone been today

SW 19stone 4&1/2lbs
GW 9stone 10lbs

seems a long way off to me

I remember it all seeming a long way off too. I used to read the June and August 2024 starter threads and thinking that it would never happen for me. It has though and you will, in time, become someone else's inspiring success story - just stick with it!

I probably have konjac noodles at least twice a week. Sorry. I really like them. I hold my breath when I open the packet because the alkali water does have a very fishy smell, but after 60 seconds of draining it is completely gone. You can rinse them with cold water if you want to be sure. I use them to make ramen with Itsu's broth cartons (the beef pho is my favourite but the sesame chicken is also decent), frozen gyoza and vegetables. They don't have the soft chewiness of wheat noodles and the texture does take a little getting used to but it's mitigated by the ramen broth. You have to drink plenty of water as they can cause digestive blockages in some people (eek).

It's been my staple meal on MJ!

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/07/2025 11:14

@alltablenochairs you really are dealing with so much, and so well. I'm full of admiration for you. It must be a big change for you all with your son now in a settled school place. I know it was life changing for a friend of her mine when her son was finally settled into a school properly able to meet his complex needs.

@QueenOfHiraeth thanks for sharing your personal story too. I find it both really moving and very frustrating that the lifelong isses we are struggling to unpick and resolve in our 40's, 50's & 60's often stem from our childhood. It doesnt even have to be anything dramatic, but our brains are so plastic and still forming in these years, things can have a great impact that manifests later on.

I think your final sentance about working to be able to finally seeing yourself isn't too far off my idea of "radical acceptance".

Lets really see ourselves, rather than hide from ourselves.
Lets accept ourselves radically and truly.
Lets care for ourselves - nourish & nurture & really look after ourselves.
If we don't do this who will?

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/07/2025 11:31

glad the noodles are working for you @VelociraptorsVelociRapping but I'm not convinced you're selling them to me 😁

If you read the Strike books (see my username) the latest one was set in a cult and cult members had lots of sloppy noodle meals, which put me off even more.

I've always preferred rice to noodles anyway.

At this point I just don't really eat any processed carbs and I don't miss them at all. It might be something I come back to when grappling with maintenance plans.

Great point about the licorice tea and hypertension. I drink quite a lot of herbal teas (helps with my overall liquid intake) and many have licorice as an ingredient even if its not a "headline" ingredient - so we need to read labels. I will often make a 2 litre flask & leave the tea bags in & drink 2litres while I am working but I don't do this with tea blends that include licorice anymore.

I keep reading about all these heatwaves we are having in UK. I'm on the south coast and outside of hot yoga/sauna I've broken a sweat about twice this year & that was dancing both times. At least I am now benefitting from the "feel the cold" side effects by keeping cool in these alleged heatwaves. After being hot and sweaty for so much of my life being cool is a change I can accommodate. I embrace the summer cardigan.

I forgot to jab last night so doing that right now.

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/07/2025 11:42

Lozzie118 · 09/07/2025 06:34

Found it not too bad, jabbed last night and feeling that I don't want to eat just yet. Taking each day as it comes. How are you getting on? Very new to all of this sorry

Its exciting at first and a lot to take in and learn.

But we all eventually settle in and as you say, take each day at a time.
On this thread we all have (had) lots to lose, but the time will pass anyway and as we all see & learn, if you stick with it the weight will come off & it does come off. MJ makes staying the distance possible and even invigorating & exciting (instead of being all consuming and exhausting).

You had a great week, and that will turn into a great month, you will start to tick off & celebrate all those milestones, and before you know it your body will change.

Eating 2 kiwi fruit 🥝🥝 a day keeps constipation at bay. My daughters are now both on 2 kiws a day too - we are eating at least 42 kiwis a week in our house. A pictorial expression of our weekly fruit bowl follows (I am using red apples for pomegranates)

Good morning. So I stepped on the scale this morning and "poof", one more lb gone, so I am now officially five stone lighter than a year ago.

I was out with friends last night, and they both told me that I am glowing. I am much happier these days...thankfully not all weight related.

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/07/2025 11:51

@MooBaggage Chinese restaurants often serve jasmine tea rather than plain green tea so might be worth checking before you buy. I bought a giant box of individually packed green tea/matcha teabags recently, happy to pop a few in the post if you want to try some.

Thanks @RobinEllacotStrike , we are all fucked up by our childhoods and I regard myself as lucky and having got off quite lightly compared to many.

Evenstar · 09/07/2025 12:58

Excited this morning ☺️ weighed in after my London trip last week and I have a 1.4kg loss which is huge for me as a slow loser. We walked lots and didn’t eat much due to the heat, so I hoped once I settled back into routine there might be a whoosh. That takes me to 28lbs off since October on Mounjaro and since June 2023 just over 49lbs 🥳

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/07/2025 13:58

I did it again 😳 There’s a thread about someone being disappointed they’ve “only” lost 1 stone in 4 weeks on MJ, and I couldn’t stop myself from posting. I have got to say off the bloody things,

Anyway, so I only have 2.5lbs left to lose to get to my ultimate, was never going to happen in a million years, end goal weight, What the holy fucksickles!

Off on holibobs next week so not anticipating that will be a great week, but I think maybe I’ll hit that goal by end of this month……and then what?

Are you eating the skin on the kiwis or peeling them?

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/07/2025 14:14

@neveroutofthekitchen both.

If they are very hairy I peel them. If the skin is smooth I often eat them or keep the skin on in a smoothie.

My current lot are very hairy. Golden kiwis are more ££ but usually hairless.

Haha I saw you pop up on that thread! If I had a pound for every time I’d told someone I lost 4.4lbs in my first 4 weeks, I’d be eating M+S cherries at every meal and signing up for my local tai chi class which, it turns out, is £270 per term 😱

I’m close to my never-in-a-million-years goal now too, I think I’m about 4lbs off. I moved the goal 🤓

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/07/2025 14:54

@RobinEllacotStrike How do you deal with pomegranates?

I've often bought just the seeds but they are expensive and go off quickly so last week I bought a whole one, cut it in half and whacked it with a wooden spoon as seen on tv but, oh dear God, the mess! We used to eat them with a pin when I was a child and now I realise why!
Is there a better solution? You must be an expert looking at that fruit list...

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/07/2025 15:17

they are messy @QueenOfHiraeth

As part or my "reeducation" around food/eating I enjoy the time I prep them, like a pre food meditation. I find it quite relaxing now.

I use a largish bowl and so most of the mess will be captured and a similar method to this though I cut the whole top off: https://youtube.com/shorts/uM4GSpoCQT0?si=iORrck_m3kDOUHhF

Nigella used to use that wooden spoon method, but I don't really rate it. You tube is your friend.

they do seem to keep quite well in their whole form. I've only ever had one be off when I opened it and I must have eaten at least 250 of them over the last few months.

Half woman, half pomegranate!

RobinEllacotStrike · 09/07/2025 15:19

the juice seems to wash out of clothing quite well though.

Darlinghag · 09/07/2025 16:01

Gosh, lots of interesting talk around perceptions of image and what’s ‘normal’. I suspect I will never be able to upend that mess in my own head.

On the food front l and noodle talk, I really like the Itsu soba noodles. Less than 180 calories a portion, and prewrapped in a little paper band. Its an MJ friendly portion but when I’m hungrier I often go for 1.5 of them haha. Of course; they are processed but while I am keen to reduce my consumption of processed foods, I am keen to not restrict them for the average meal ( more just snacks etc) - I would have them with chicken, mixed veg, and make up an asian inspired sauce (or if very uninspired, some of those stir fry sachets!) and top off with egg and spring onion.

My carb tastes have changed - I actually eat so much more potato now! White or sweet, and in all different formats. And you can’t beat a great baby potato drizzled with some olive oil, garlic and salt!

Pasta used to be something I ate 3 times a week - now I don’t keep it! I will eat at other’s homes and like tonight, because I’m busy, in a ready meal, but its like a once a month thing now! I’ve even gone as far as making a bolognese sauce because I love it and having it over a jacket or eating it like a stew with some garlic bread instead 🤣🤣

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/07/2025 16:04

@Darlinghagone of my favourite treats is air fried potato peelings. Way less carbs and more fibre than the potato flesh, when I’m doing roasties for DH and DD I hold back the peels, put a bit of oil and a lot of seasoning on them then air fry them till they’re crispy. The best homemade crisps ever!

Darlinghag · 09/07/2025 16:07

@InfoSecInTheCity this sounds like it cannot be true which means I will need to try it 🤣🤣
