Mounjaro/Wegovy with > 5 stone/30kg to lose - thread 9!

MooBaggage · 08/07/2025 08:50

New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

I think that I am going to have to go up a dose for my next pen. Although I am wondering if there is a problem with the current one. From the start (end of January) I have always had some type of gastric side effect, from mild sulphur burps to vomiting & diarrhoea. Whereas with this pen (my 2nd 7.5mg) I have none. In fact if I was participating in a medical trial I would guess that I had been given the placebo. Maybe, it's just that my body has adjusted more to mounjaro...

During the school hols I am missing the gym. I have been exercising at home with hand weights and yoga on YouTube but it is not the same. I have managed to keep up seeing my PT once a week and I am looking forward to seeing him later. It's tricky as a single parent as I am v dependent on family to help with childcare to help me work at this time of year.

I normally weigh myself at the gym and I dread to think what has happened to my weight over the last few weeks. Not that I have particularly overindulged but I have not been as careful. It doesn't help with my DS calling me fat and ugly several times a day.

Sorry about the pity party. I have never lost this much weight before and it is so inspirational reading this thread. Part of me thinks that I just need to accept that juggling work, DS's violent outbreaks and DD's distress is a lot and I might need to reset in September.

MooBaggage · 08/08/2025 07:46

@dimples76 that really does sound like a lot ❤ Be kind to yourself - you can only do so much - and I wish you a speedy summer holiday and back to your routine asap!

Just to say my symptoms that I'd been getting on MJ disappeared a few months in- also when I moved to 7.5mg. I don't get any headaches or nausea now at all - maybe our bodies just finally get used to it all, a few months in?

I didn't really get a clear answer on what the split was. He said my "good" cholesterol was up and also my "bad" cholesterol was up a bit. They were tested I guess sometime towards the end of last year. I tried to get the numbers for both but he seemed a bit taken aback to learn I was on MJ (there was a letter in his notes which he obviously hadn't read) and he said oh well let's retest in a few months, and that's as far as I got really.

I'm 53. No way am I going on statins unless it's life or death! I stopped taking thyroxine at the start of the year (GP says my thyroid is now "borderline" - didn't get the numbers, but borderline with zero symptoms is okay with me) and I'm hoping to get off BP meds soon. I am planning that at some point I will be on nothing except maybe a low dose of MJ or similar newer drug that regulates metabolism - unless I can go into complete remission from obesity/metabolic syndrome. Obviously I will take meds if it's the only option, but I think there must be other ways to try first.

I will try the plant sterol thing, thanks. Also I am sure I can up my fibre intake and probably review other things in my diet. I also do wonder if it's something like fat loss releasing cholesterol into the bloodstream. Just because it's weird that cholesterol has gone up when I'm definitely eating better and exercising more than I was last time it was tested!

If you have the NHS app you can find your test results on there, last year was the first time my results showed the LDL and HDL as seperate figures. If you dont have the app you could call your surgery and ask the receptionist to look at the test results and give you the results for each.

Its so annoying when a doctor only gives us the basic overall info, when the details matter!
The plant sterols will help as will increasing your fibre.

Good luck!

Well I can confirm that spinal blocks are AMAZING! Had my polyp removal this morning and didn't feel a thing - will never have a gynae procedure without one again! Legs still numb so am waiting until I can walk before they discharge me, but I feel great and they even gave me a bit of sedation so I slept all the way through it 😊

InfoSecInTheCity · 08/08/2025 12:52

@MooBaggageso glad it went better for you than your last appt.

i had a nerve block when i had my hand operated on a few years ago, had an irrational fear of GA so asked if I could be awake through it, it was amazing I got to watch while they opened up my hand and screwed it back together and I felt nothing. It’s amazing how heavy a completely numb and unresponsive arm is though. Getting dressed afterwards was really hard because I had to lift my arm around as it wouldn’t move at all.

Then when I had eye surgery they gave me a light sedative because you have to be awake and they don’t want you panicking while they have teeny tiny instruments in your eyeball. I bloody loved that stuff, they never actually told me what drug I was given but it was amazing, I was able to fully participate in conversations but just felt completely relaxed and didn’t care about anything.

Then with gallbladder removal GA was the only option and it turns out there was no need for fear in the first place because that was just fine too and possibly the best sleep I’ve ever had.

MooBaggage · 08/08/2025 14:26

@InfoSecInTheCity honestly I'm never going back to trying to be brave - it's ridiculous that they don't offer this as routine... Obviously they don't because it's more expensive in terms of staffing, theatre, bedspace, but fuck it - my experience has been so much better.

I love a good general anaesthetic too - epic sleeping!

alltablenochairs · 08/08/2025 14:51

The sedation could well be midazolam. I've had dentistry work done under it a few times and can never remember anything. DH says it's 'interesting' though. Apparently the last time I had it done I called dh something very bad and told the dentist I was going to divorce dh and marry him!

MooBaggage · 08/08/2025 16:05

Well I'm still on the ward with a numb bum and low blood pressure - but have had 4 x rounds of (gluten free) toast and I don't even care 😁😁😁

Hopefully will be ejected soon and then back on the wagon from tomorrow...!

OP posts:
dimples76 · 08/08/2025 18:16

Hope that you escape soon @MooBaggage . Now is definitely not the time to be worried about food!

I weighed myself at my PT gym whereas I normally weigh myself at the gym where I have membership. I was 1kg heavier than my last weigh in 10 days ago, so it could have been worse ...also different scales so perhaps not wholly accurate...In better news, I am getting so much stronger. Dumbbell pullovers are something that I have really struggled with - today I asked for a heavier weight. Plus I have finally made it into some size 18 jeans- I think that they're about 20 years old!

MooBaggage · 08/08/2025 20:06

Am finally home and my low carb high protein eating today has consisted of 4 x rounds of toast and chicken korma with poppadoms 😀

Am tired and sore, but glad it's over and am not going to weigh myself until at least Monday!

I have to inject myself with blood thinners twice a day for the next 10 days - will look like a pin cushion with that and the MJ this week...!

OP posts:
MabelSpan · 08/08/2025 22:19

@MooBaggage Glad you are finally home again and that things were a lot better this time. The things that us women are meant to tolerate as standard is barbaric, it just would not happen to men. Grrrr 😠

Your days food does sounds lovely though 😋

Slowrunning · 09/08/2025 07:38

7 months in and I went up to 12.5mg last week. It was definitely too strong for me and I’m going back to 10mg this week.
No side effects per se (apart from the ever present constipation) but I have struggled to finish small meals this week which is not a place I want to be in.
It has given me a whoosh which puts me just into a healthy weight for the first time in probably 20 years but I definitely have not eaten enough this week and I feel tired and weak.
Ideally I want to lose another 10 pounds but I’d prefer it to be slow and steady.

gimmemounjaro · 09/08/2025 09:50

Weigh day for me:

SW: 241.2 / 17st 3 / 35.6 BMI
CW: 156.0 / 11st 2 / 23 BMI

This week -1.8 lbs
Total loss 85.2 / 6st 1

I was aiming for another -6 lbs to take me to 150 but I think actually I might be done. I’m not feeling great at the moment, which I suspect is down to some combo of weight loss, MJ, Omeprazole, B12 deficiency and low blood pressure. I have also lost almost 10lbs in the last four weeks, despite reducing the dose. It took double that amount of time to lose the previous 10lbs. So everything feels a bit out of whack at the moment.

I am drinking more, eating more salt, have a wrist bp monitor coming today as I can’t seem to get a reading from the arm cuff any more, have started B12 supplements and have an injection booked for Tuesday, magnesium bath salts coming tomorrow. Also waiting on a cardiology referral but hopefully all the other stuff will mean I start feeling better in the meantime and can start exercising again 😣

So new plan is maintenance - EEK - and new goal is to try and hang around in the 150s while continuing to reduce MJ gradually. I was on 10mg for months, down to 8mg so far. Slightly apprehensive but let’s see what happens 😬

Timetofindme · 09/08/2025 10:03

Ive not been around much and struggling to catch up with all the posts! Well done to all for keeping going with this journey!

Ive been bobbling around the same few pounds for about 4 months but that includes surgery and recovery which meant I was really inactive and struggled to prep food. As well as being bored and getting boredom cravings. Turns out being ill for over a week is what I needed to kick start things again and I've just tipped over into the 'next stone' loss bracket! Feels weird to think I've got nearly the same again to lose though!

I feel a completely different shape and size than last time I was at this weight and that's a bit of a struggle to wrap my head around.

Is anyone else finding they can't see they look any different? I can see it in my face but other than that I really can't see that I've lost anything, I can see my clothes are too big but with no clothes on I look exactly the same to me. It's just weird, hopefully at some point my brain will catch up!

gimmemounjaro · 09/08/2025 10:31

@Timetofindme I still find it hard to see the change sometimes, it’s only really by comparing photos that I can understand it. (Might post them later.) I can’t really remember what it felt like to be that big though. On the other hand, sometimes I catch sight of myself and I CAN see it and I’m really shocked at how thin I am! I think it just takes time for the rest of you to catch up with the changes in your body.

I forgot my best piece of news - my scales now tell me that my age is my actual age 🥳🥳🥳

akaFrosty · 09/08/2025 10:32

@MooBaggage So glad you're home, and all went well. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Flowers
My ds is half way through medical school. I have told him about what happened to you, and other women as a way of explaining medical misogyny. I'm hoping he can be a good advocate for women's health care when he eventually becomes a doctor. It's my way of doing my bit to improve outcomes for women. It's shocking what we're expected to tolerate.

Cantwaituntiltheyareover · 09/08/2025 10:41

Going back home today after about 10 days away....slightly nervous as all sorts of meals and ice creams and missed my daily weigh-ins. Tried to manage though and still eat what I fancied with the others and nowhere near the amount of stuff I would have had before.

Hoping for the best though as PJs nearly fell down walking to the shower block at the campsite 🤣

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/08/2025 10:43

@gimmemounjaro I completely understand what you’re feeling. I find it impossible to figure out how I was even moving with 125lb more weight on my body, I don’t remember feeling like I couldn’t move, but I don’t think I could lift that and go up and down stairs or walk around town for a couple of hours carrying it, yet I did, every minute of every day that I was awake. I catch my reflection in a window as I’m walking now and double take because it doesn’t look like me. Wondering when it will feel more normal.

Timetofindme · 09/08/2025 10:47

@gimmemounjaro I think I still feel as big as I ever was, need the brain to catch up. Although I've never really seen myself as I am- at my smallest (size 8/10) I still had quite a warped view of myself.

Congrats on the being your actual age! That's an exciting nsv!

gimmemounjaro · 09/08/2025 11:13

Right I’ve just taken some photos to show DD my lovely new boots (£10 on Vinted!) so will dig out one from the beginning of all this and let’s see how they look side by side. I think I might have to tick the sensitive image box if I remember the underwear from back then..

gimmemounjaro · 09/08/2025 11:33

Not quite at the beginning of the MJ journey, I had already lost a stone at this point. And maybe not quite the end. But I am still shocked at the difference when looking at them side by side! (Might need to click on them to appreciate the full glory of the granny pants 🙈)

Bloody hell @gimmemounjaro !! Those photos are amazing - your legs are incredible 😍

I can't see where another 6lbs would come from - you look amazing - really slim, but more importantly, fit and healtby!

Just brilliant ❤

Thank you Moo 🥰
Can’t quite believe it - I’m going to try and think about this whole process today, remember where I started a year or so ago and just sit with it for a bit, maybe consider what I want the next year to be like.

WeAllHaveWings · 09/08/2025 14:40

Saturday jag day and weigh in, 2lb loss this week takes me to interim target 🎯of 13st 😁

End of week - 59 (5 x 2.5mg, 53 x 3.75mg, 1 x 3.08mg)
SW - 21st 5lbs BMI 44.8
CW - 13st 0lbs BMI 27.3
Losses (2024) - 10,2,2,4,1,3,3,3,1,3,2,2,3,3,2,3,3,2,1,4,0,2,3,3,1,4,0
Losses (2025) - 0,3,2,1,3,1,1,0,2,3,3,-1,3,2,2,1,2,2,1,1,0,3,0,1,2,1,3,0,2,0,1,2
Prev 6w/avg loss - 1.2, 1.7, 1.2, 1.5, 1.3, 1.2, 1.3
Total loss - 8st 05lbs (117lbs), 39.1%
Next Target 🎯- 13st 11st 12lbs (BMI 24.9 healthy!)

Tentatively trying a tiny reduction in dose (half way between 3.75mg and 2.5mg) for a few weeks, then loose plan to reduce to 2.5mg. Hoping reduced dose, slightly more calories will help to reduce some fatigue and give me that little bit more oomph that the extra sleep I am getting now on HRT hasn't! 😂

New target 🎯 set as 11st 12lbs which will take me to at BMI < 25 (just!)

MooBaggage · 09/08/2025 14:47

@WeAllHaveWings Congratulations on hitting your interim target!! 😊

Fantastic weight loss and how ace to be setting the next big target - am hugely impressed and hoping to be following in your footsteps eventually😍
