Injecting in bum?

I keep getting red skin reactions at my mounjaro injection sites. I do it in alternate upper thighs but it can take a week for the redness to subside despite topical application of an antihistamine cream. I’m going away shortly and will be wearing a bikini every day of my holiday, taking my mounjaro with me. Do you think it’s ok to inject in my bum (there’s loads of flesh there!) instead of continuing with my thighs? I ask because only DH will see my bum but everyone else will see the rest of me and I don’t want them to cotton on that I’m using WLI.

Why don't you just do the stomach?

TheChosenTwo · 05/07/2025 16:09

I mean it’s not one of the suggested/approved sites, perhaps it’s not been tested there.
I don’t get any reactions at the injection site and never have done, always injected into my stomach with no issues at all so I can see why you’d consider a different place to jab.
I can’t see what would be wrong with trying your bum but no one can really tell with any certainty that it would be find, we’d all just be guessing.

SilenceInside · 05/07/2025 16:15

Just do it in your stomach in an area that would be covered by your bikini.

perimenopoppet · 05/07/2025 16:16

It’s not on the instructions so I probably wouldn’t. I tried on my bikinis today for this reason as going away later in the month. I worked out I can jab lower on stomach and any little bruises will be hidden just fine. Unless you have teeny bikini bottoms wouldn’t this work? Logically I can’t see why bum isn’t ok - it’s maybe just because it’s hard to reach?

My DS is diabetic and his consultant has said he can inject into his bum to give his stomach a breaks. They are the same size needle and similar medication so I imagine it would be fine. Just aim for top outside quarter of your cheek.

How would people know it's a mounjaro injection site? I inject b12 as well in same place..
I don't think people will be interested in looking at your mark and thinking " yes she's on mounjaro "..

PumpKim · 05/07/2025 17:41

I've often wondered if it can be injected into your bum cheek too, I mean, it's nice and fleshy 😂
I also get the reaction @mounjarotravel. It started from second 5mg jab, also on thigh. Antihistamines don't seem to help. Mine itches like mad, so not sure I'd want to be scratching my bum cheek all holiday 🫤 If anybody even notices at all they'd probably assume it was a bite on your thigh.

DarkForces · 05/07/2025 17:44

I get the reaction too. I find antihistamine cream helps with the itching but just inject my lower stomach if I might be showing my thighs in the next week.

The reaction has lessened over time so hopefully one day it'll stop completely

Your bum is not a site that is approved by the manufacturers. I would stick to lower stomach away from belly button.

Have you tried a different brand of pen needle, different length of needle, taking medication out the fridge before using?

unsync · 05/07/2025 17:57

Do you use a disinfectant wipe before injecting and also wipe the pen tip before putting on the needle? Have you tried your stomach and/or arms, both of which are approved sites?

Surely the upper arm and thighs always provide alternatives?

I found using a disinfectant wipe made it worse. I think it irritated my skin

Histoscientist · 05/07/2025 19:01

I had a horrid big, raised itchy red reaction every week for 3 months until I left it out of the fridge to warm up for 1hr before injecting. Not a single reaction 6 months on.

B12 should be IM, Mounjaro is SC

He refused to do his legs and his arms are really skinny.

B12 can be subcutaneous too. I do it every other day subcutaneously

Apologies. I didn’t read in and I now realise that you are taking about a different scenario.

Titasaducksarse · 05/07/2025 22:25

Interesting point re warming it up out of fridge. I always do as read somewhere right at the beginning of my journey to warm up meds first.

mounjarotravel · 06/07/2025 00:33

Thanks for all your thoughts. I did think of injecting in my stomach but weirdly (?) it's pretty washboard (I even have a 4 pack - if I breathe in a bit) and my bikinis are quite skimpy so there's not a lot of flesh to jab and not be on show.

My bum, on the other hand, is, um, plentiful!

I'm keen for the sharp-eyed friends we're going on hols with to not know I'm using WLI. I just don't want to share my private business with them.

They will just think it's an insect bite
