Mounjaro - what week was the worse?

Has anyone else experienced a really bad week when all the others have been fine?

I’ve done 5wks on 2.5mg, this is my second wk of 5mg and I’ve felt really crappy all week. Diarrhoea at the start of the week, stomach ache, feeling sick, can’t eat much and I’m wiped out.

If it’s the MJ I can’t do another week like this.

First week on 5. I started it on boxing day (probably not ideal but a good way to put a stop to the Christmas excess) and I felt so bloated and full up to my neck all week. Not really much nausea but just a really heavy uncomfortable feeling. Happily I have been quite lucky with side effects overall. Now on 12.5 and just eaten a chinese and drank the best part of a bottle of wine! I have never felt fullness like I did on that first week of 5 since and fully expect to be fine after tonight's indulgence although I have eaten much less than I would have pre MJ and will be back on track first thing tomorrow. You do need to have a blow out now and again when in this for the long haul. I started in October.

Just to add, stick with it, it will most likely be temporary. Just try to concentrate on clean eating for a few days and hitting your protein goals (whatever they may be). Mine goals are lower than many but I still need to pay attention in order to hit them and always something I think about when feeling tired, along with drinking more water and getting enough sleep.

I think I "lost a day" most weekends for the first few months. Either fatigue or diahrea/stomach issues or both in varying forms.

It settled and then I had it again for 3 weeks while going up a dose to 7.5. Now I'm settled on this dose I still get low level symptoms but not the crazy diahhrea (more like sulphur burps and some changed in poop!)

But I don't think it last this long for most people. Also I started morbidly obese and it took me losing 4 stone + not to be - so for me the gains outweighed the side effects and I think it does generally reduce as I get used to a dose. (If I get anything it's now often day 2/3 after jabbing)

For a lot of people I think it's just when going up a dose or just after jabbing and for many people they get no side effects at all!

My first week on 5 was ok, felt sick the first day then fine. This week on the 2nd dose has been gruelling. I’d seen TT videos of users lying in bed saying how sick / tired they felt, and when I started MJ I thought they were exaggerating - till this week!

First couple of weeks of 5mg definitely the worst. Dizziness, tiredness, heartburn, upset stomach. It passed though and going up to 7.5mg hasn't been a noticeable change. Electrolytes every morning helped, and also magnesium citrate before bed.

didiimaginethis · 05/07/2025 18:30

This has been my first week on 5mg and I'm seriously thinking about going back down to 2.5mg on my next jab.

The tiredness is extreme, I am eating hardly anything but the bloated full up feeling is so bad. Plus really burpy. I didn't get anything like this on 2.5 so this is horrid

I’ve just done my second dose of 5mg and lost 72 hours to fatigue. Have felt very lethargic and spaced out. Quite alarming. If it was a monthly jab I could just about tolerate being knackered for 3 days but not every week. Is the jump to 5mg the very worst one SE wise? I hope so. I couldn’t do this every week. Am planning to go down to 3.75 next week

didiimaginethis · 07/07/2025 09:22

How do you calculate a 3.75 dose?

WeAllHaveWings · 07/07/2025 09:50

Side effects are very common at a dose increase until your body adjusts to the new dose. The first 4 weeks (more so in the first two weeks) of each new dose the concentration keeps increasing in your body before leveling out at week 4.

I think your options are limited to,

  • If side effects are unpleasant but manageable (with help from provider/local pharmacy) trying to stick it out for the 4 week dose change and see if your body adjusts
  • If unmanageable, look at reducing dose down for a few weeks. Perhaps try 3.75mg (45 clicks) and let the concentration drop back down over 2-3 injections and see how 3.75mg works for you before deciding what to do next.

Try to follow a thought out plan, don't chop and change doses as they need time to increase/decrease concentration in your body over a few weeks.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

averythinline · 07/07/2025 10:15

Ah .. hadn't thought about 5mg being so much more effects than 2.5mg... have been knackered.. and equally not sleeping well... Definitely seems to be affected by quantity of water i drink

I’ve been spaced out too on week 2 of 5mg and unable to think about what to eat or eat much of it. Reducing the dose next time as it’s been a miserable week of feeling rubbish.

The 3rd week of 5mg was the worst so far for me, had terrible sulphur burps which turned into vomiting and diarrhoea and then days of a sore stomach whilst it settled. I dropped down to 2.5mg last week per recommendation from my provider and feel fine now but the hunger is creeping back!

I think I will stay on 2.5 till post holiday and then try 3.75mg for a few weeks instead of going straight back to 5mg again.

TheBig50 · 07/07/2025 18:40

7.5 was awful for me. My next order will be my 3rd month on 10 and bar one odd vomiting episode it's been a breeze compared with 7.5.

I'm too scared to move up to 12.5 🤣 10 is working fine though.
