Absolute exhaustion

I’m on 3rd month of mounjaro, started 7.5mg last Monday.Since then I’ve had the most crippling exhaustion and muscle aches. Could be coincidence and I’m coming down with something? Or is it a common side effect?
im like a zombie

I’m like this on week 2 of 5mg. Not sure if it’s the MJ or a culmination of several late nights and lack of sleep from the heat.

FortyElephants · 04/07/2025 19:56

Are you eating enough protein?

Sprogonthetyne · 04/07/2025 20:01

Unfortunately this is the reason I ended up coming off if, despite loving it at first and it being very effective for me. I just wasn't getting anything done, my house was a tip and I was struggling to find the energy to properly play with the kids and take them out.

Starlightstargazer · 04/07/2025 20:09

@Honeysucklelane i wonder the same. Hot weather really didn’t help sleep.
@FortyElephants I don’t think so. I’m not really eating anything at all as I’m full after a couple of bites. I need to look into some high protein stuff. Do you have any recommendations?
@Sprogonthetyne sorry to hear that. I’m exactly the same, no energy, can’t see anyone, can’t exercise! Did you find any dose was better?

Oysterblue · 04/07/2025 20:16

I’m also on second week of 5mg and fatigue lasting longer. Second day after jab and still feeling knackered. Not able to eat too much so that is a factor but still doesn’t account for level of tiredness

SheSmellsSeaShells · 04/07/2025 20:26

Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating enough? Are you taking vitamins? Are you getting a bit of exercise in?

I felt exhausted on 5mg and sorting these bits helped a lot.

FortyElephants · 04/07/2025 20:39

Why have you increased to 7.5 if you can barely eat? I suggest you go back down again until you find a dose you can lose weight on and still eat. I recommend buying some clear protein powder that you mix with water, tastes like fruit squash but you can add 20g of protein a day in 3 large glasses for only 100cal and it won't make you feel too full. I use Myprotein clear protein powder. Lack of protein will absolutely lead to fatigue and it can be dangerous.

Wallywobbles · 04/07/2025 20:41

Do you need to increase the doses so quickly? I’ve been on it since last August and I’m on my last dose of 10. I’ve done at least 3 months at each dose. My weight loss has been pretty slow but I’m now 4 stone down since last May. I started with the low carb boot camp for 13 weeks.

Starlightstargazer · 04/07/2025 21:00

@FortyElephants i didn’t think 5mg was doing enough as hadn’t been losing that much. In total I’ve lost 10kg in 3 months so it has been working well overall. I definitely think I’ll move down when this pen runs out.
thanks very much for the tip on protein powder. Will look into that.

@Wallywobbles i think I got caught up with moving up the doses where really I didn’t need to. Since Monday I’ve already lost 1.5kg so it’s working too well now!!

@SheSmellsSeaShells I have got a lot of vitamins but need to up the water. I’ve had to cancel all my exercise classes this week as I’m just so tired.

@Oysterblue sorry you’re feeling this way too. The tiredness is debilitating isn’t it.

on the plus side, my cholesterol levels are now normal after being above for years! That’s a big win for me

How can you say you weren't losing that much when you lost 10kg in 3 months? Thats bang on the top rate of weight loss that anyone should be aiming for. What were you expecting?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/07/2025 22:12

It's one of the SE I've struggled with at times but I'm careful to ensure I eat enough, drink enough etc to minimise it.

I only went upto 7.5 on my 5th pen. I think my body would have rebelled if I'd done it earlier!

Depending on your prescriber and agreement etc you could take less from the pen to in effect go back to 5mg?

It does seem in your case that not eating =fatigue...

PresidentBarklett · 05/07/2025 01:14

I don't know your situation but, honestly, that sounds like my response to dehydration. Could it be that, with the hotter weather, you need to increase your fluids? Please disregard if you're already on this!

Histoscientist · 05/07/2025 07:45

Mounjaro disrupts the dopamine pathway which leads to low mood and no motivation or enthusiasm. I didn't want to do anything due to fatigue and also have muscle aches recently. I've been on it 9 months and upto 12.5mg and it gets worse the higher up the doses you go.
It may also be diet related if you have really low calories, try to eat to your deficit and focus on protein.
I found L tyrosine supplement helps as it is converted to dopamine. Only been on it a month but I'm suddenly cleaning the house top to bottom, being sociable again and getting DIY tasks and more efficient at work. I really wish someone had told me about it months ago.

Starlightstargazer · 05/07/2025 09:04

@Histoscientist that’s really interesting - I think I do have adhd which is very dopamine seeking too (my children / nephews have adhd).

@PresidentBarklett they could very well be the cause as I sweat a lot at night (sound delightful don’t I!) and so wake dehydrated. I’ve never been that good at hydration but I’m going to make a real effort today.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden my body is definitely rebelling! Do you know how many clicks it would be for 5mg? Maybe I just inject 3/4 of the pen dose?

@FortyElephants actually thinking about it, it is 10kg in 9 weeks. I fell off the wagon with 5mg, eating a load of crap due to emotional stress. Thought 7.5mg would solve that and it has in that I can’t hardly eat at all now.

thanks everyone for all the advice x

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 05/07/2025 09:07

10kg in 9weeks is very fast. Are you a particulalry high starting weight ( Not being rude - I was!). It's likely to be potentially too fast - ideally it's 0.5-1% of your weight per week.

As for dosage - look up "click charts" if you are going that way.

Good luck!

PearlsPearl · 05/07/2025 10:14

Here's the click chart that you need.

I also recommend the My Protein clear whey powders. They're 20mg of protein for 80ish calories. I started with this variety pack as you get 10 flavours, then bought the big pot versions of the ones I liked (raspberry lemonade is my fave)
