Mounjaro diarrohea

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 14:20

I have been on mounjaro for three weeks. My dose is 2.5.

I have had diarrohea on and off, but I have always been able to get to the toilet in time.

I was at the airport today, sitting in a waiting area, and I literally shit myself in the waiting area. I couldn't control it. It was so embarassing. Am I going to lose control of my bowels on Mounjaro?

Been overeating for 10 years. 2.5mg cured that within 12 hours. Absolutely no way it's a placebo - my gluttony wouldn't give a placebo that much credit.

Definitely. I’ve tried all the other placebos in the form of supplements over the years and the only thing that immediately stopped the binge eating was a low dose of Mounjaro.

I haven't lost any weight at all on the 2.5mg dose

I feel for you on this OP. At least if you were losing weight, the side effects would be a trade off.

Regardless of the dose, you won’t lose any weight if you’re not in a calorie deficit. The drug can’t override the laws of physics. Many people think they are in a deficit but have overestimated their TDEE or underestimated their calorie intake. If you are absolutely certain of your deficit and you still aren’t losing weight then you need to see your GP for investigations, for example on your thyroid function.

People wouldn't go on the drug if they were mentally able to get into a calorie deficit by themselves.

People use this drug because it is meant to be an appetite suppressant, which is meant to help people to get into a calorie deficit.

Everyone reacts differently and you do need to change your eating habits. I find that the only way I can do this is with Mounjaro. But for me, a low dose is all that is needed. I don’t have significant suppression but it allows me to eat normally by taking away intense cravings to overeat.

Yes indeed. I’m probably more aware of this than most having lost 9 stone in 14 months on Mounjaro.

Yes partly but it also acts on the appetite regulating hormones in your body so it’s not just appetite suppression. I don’t really have that much suppression and I eat about 1800 cals a day (I know some people barely eat and don’t feel hungry but that’s not me) but it takes away the desire to binge eat which used to be incredibly strong for me. My guess although I don’t know for sure is that I had something wrong with my appetite regulation before I took MJ (I literally used to be able to eat 10,000 calories in a day) and that it has helped that.

I suggest you see your GP for investigation then. If you are in a calorie deficit MJ won’t stop you losing weight. Add to that the frequency of your diarrhoea which would absolutely drop a few pounds over 3 weeks, due to water I know, but still, if you are certain of your deficit and not losing any weight despite having lots of diarrhoea I would suggest the GP is necessary

Menobaby79 · 02/07/2025 09:49

I didn't lose any weight on 2.5mg either, the first month OP. I might aswell have been taking nothing. It started working at 5mg for me.
Having said that I've never had loss of control of my bowels at any time? Sounds like MJ isn't for you and I'd discontinue it. Wegovy might be better.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/07/2025 11:55

@Marinamay44 in all fairness I don’t 100% agree with that - I went on it as I’m perfectly able to get into a good cal defecit myself - I’ve got good willpower and I don’t snack - my issues were a lack of consistency and too big portions in an evening - if I put my mind to it, I can lose fine over a period, albeit not that fast at 63 - The reason I took it was several times in last few years I’ve been pre diabetic on bloods( not at moment) and I thought it would be good for glycemic control and pep up a bit on insulin resistance - as it happens I didn’t like the heartburn and feeling of mild morning sickness 4 days a week so decided that ‘for me’ it wasn’t worth it -I really didn’t need suppression - I think it’s a very varied picture and to be honest if I was some of the people struggling on here at 20 stone etc and stuck in a cycle of being hungry- partly for some I think because they are big and have higher calorie needs initially - I totally see why they would put up with the side effects balanced against risks of other things- - for those who are just a couple of stone over and maybe around bmi 28 to 30 I am on the fence as to value/cost ratio- but at the end of the day it’s up to them .

I have started shaking uncontrollably today.

My whole body is shaking. I am scared.

I don't think that mounjaro is for me. I am going to stop taking it.

Please see a doctor. You probably need urgent rehydration, possibly via IV. I hope you feel better soon.

It could be low blood sugar. I think it does mess about with that from what I've experienced.
Have a rest and a sugary cup of tea or something if you can.
I don't rate Mounjaro really. In the 8 weeks I've been on it I've lost less than a stone and I get awful heartburn even when I've eaten nothing. Then the bloody constipation and bloating ugh.
I don't have loads to lose, I think I won't get any more when this pen is finished.

I would knock it on the head too. My mum never got on with it.

I have reacted very badly to mounjaro. I had heart pains last night.

I am shaking uncontrollably this morning. I am going to the doctor today.

Sorry to hear that, hope you're okay. Get lots of rest and stay hydrated. Remember the BRAT diet, bananas rice apple toast I think it is.
I had some garlic bread last night after being very "good" for ages with eating and well the constipation has ended now, lets just say.

Glowingup · 03/07/2025 13:56

It does sound like a really bad reaction. If you can, try drinking rehydration sachets to balance your electrolytes- that’s most likely why you feel shaky and awful as that happens when you have a prolonged period of vomiting or diarrhoea. I think it can also cause chest pains. If you really want to try WLIs in the future you could give Wegovy a go but maybe speak to your doctor first about it.

I hope you are ok. I would have been in an ambulance if that were me. I also would not be so fast to put the fuse down to MJ. You sound very unwell and it might not be related at all.
