Mounjaro diarrohea

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 14:20

I have been on mounjaro for three weeks. My dose is 2.5.

I have had diarrohea on and off, but I have always been able to get to the toilet in time.

I was at the airport today, sitting in a waiting area, and I literally shit myself in the waiting area. I couldn't control it. It was so embarassing. Am I going to lose control of my bowels on Mounjaro?

what are you eating?

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 14:29

Yesterday, I had toast and tea for breakfast, soup for lunch and I had a plain chicken salad for dinner.
I had an apple and a rice cake as a snack. I drank lots of water. I usually eat pretty similiar most days.

I don't eat anything fatty, or any junk food as it would make me vomit. I am eating healthily but I am still getting lots of diarrohea.

It all depends on what you eat. I wonder if your soup has caused it this time round

DevonMum123 · 01/07/2025 17:09

Hm that certainly doesn't sound right when you eating such a healthy diet. That's pretty scary.
I'm on it too for 2.5 weeks and only time I had diarrhea was after eating tinned soup from Sainsbury. Odd.

Imbera27 · 01/07/2025 17:11

Soup can have artificial sweetners always check not necessarily healthy

It really doesn't. It's an extremely common side effect. It can obviously be exacerbated by diet, but i keep seeing this assertion that such side effects can be totally eliminated by eating correctly and it's not true. It's a medication that causes diarrhoea in many users, whatever they do. Addressing diet is really important, but it's not a fix every time. I've had diarrhoea moving up doses with no change in diet whatsoever, and occasionally it happens randomly with no clear trigger.

OP, you need to use Immodium to avoid an experience like the one you've had. You will hopefully become more tolerant and adjust to the drug, but if it's severe then some people do have to stop taking it. You need to consult your provider for advice.

Fitasafiddle1 · 01/07/2025 17:23

No never experienced anything like that, no.

BerfyTigot · 01/07/2025 17:40

@Marinamay44 I have diarrhoea on MJ regardless of what i eat. It just leaks out of me and I have no control at all.

Like pp I just take lots of immodium. I've also reduced dose to 1.25 which gives me some suppression of food noise and lower side effects

NewMrsF · 01/07/2025 17:49

This happened to me on Saxenda thankfully o was just at home! I then started wearing period pants just incase.
it only happened the once and then I must have got used to the jab and was fine.

Swimforthewin08 · 01/07/2025 17:53

nightmare 😞hope you had a spare change of clothes? I’ve been on it almost a year and tbh coming off it soon as I may as well be injecting water! Body has got used to it now. I have had a couple of bouts of diorrea but there seemed to be no link to what I’ve eaten!

Oh, you poor thing! That must have been awful. I've been on it for a couple of months and have been worried about this happening while away from home on holiday at the moment, and unavoidably eating different foods to normal..I've been dreading this very thing happening as I've had unusual cramps a few times..

Would period pants really make much difference?

Penguinslove · 01/07/2025 18:07

I’ve been eating whatever I want and only had one loose stool in three weeks. My diet hasn’t affected it at all. I’m only on 2.5mg and have mild nausea and lots of appetite reduction.

OP how are your other symptoms? If it continues I would say it might not be worth the side effects?

As someone with IBD, it’s the worst thing and very embarrassing. I have carried spare clothes and baby wipes in the past if I’m flaring up. It more common than you realise.

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 18:14

Yes the medication hasn't been working for me so far.

I thought I would feel less hungry on it. My appetite has been exactly the same on mounjaro. I haven't lost any weight.

The only thing it has done is give me nausea and diarrohea.

It is expensive too. I will take next week's dose, but if it just making me sick and not giving me any positive effects at all, I will think about stopping it.

Really? I'm having the opposite problem on Mounjaro at the moment. It can be a couple of days before I'm able to go (sorry TMI). Its a bit worrying, I don't usually have this problem.

It was awful. Luckily i was wearing a long black dress so no one can say it, and I had a change of clothes in my carry on luggage.

I was worried the whole flight that it would happen again.

I didn't get to the toilet in time twice last night. Had no problems at 2.5 mg but all went south at 5 mg. Absolutely no change in diet either. Now I'm worried it'll go the other way as I haven't eaten anything let alone my usual chia/flaxseed/prune cocktail.

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 18:22

It's awful to have uncontrollabe diarrohea. That has never happened to me before.

I recommend speaking to your prescriber.

justkeepswimingswiming · 01/07/2025 18:27

I recommend stopping.

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 18:29

I am going to take a break from it for a week as i am on holiday anyway

Have you tried Immodium? It gets it under control. Still, if you're suffering this badly it obviously may not be right for you to continue. But you should try taking loperamide, rehydrating with electrolytes and drinking plenty of water to help you feel less awful.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 01/07/2025 18:38

Did you know there’s a study on Munjaro that basically says 1/100 will have a heart attack and therefore likely die. Can’t understand anyone touching this stuff unless so unhealthy death is a high probability anyway.

Ihateboris · 01/07/2025 18:39

Oh how awful for you 😢. I personally don't have experience with WLIs, but two of my friends were on Mounjaro. One of them had an accident whilst on a sunbed, the other had one whilst out running. They've both come off them now...obviously! Blush

reversegear · 01/07/2025 18:41

Note to self.. I’m about start and I’m off to Paris so will wait until i have a few days at home.

If it caused fatal heart attacks in 1% of users, it would never have got licensed. Mounjaro isn't linked to heart attacks at all. It has, like all medications, a range of side effects from mild/moderate to severe and dangerous. If you read the leaflet with paracetamol you will see the same. Of course, there is a risk/benefit assessment to do with Mounjaro that is part of the prescription criteria. It's only prescribed to obese people because the risks of obesity outweigh the risks of the medication in most cases.

But no, there has been no study done showing that it causes heart attacks in one out of a hundred users. That's just not true.
