Knees

Um, not sure if this is a thing but as a side sleeper having lost five stones…. I can feel my knee bones at night when I go to sleep, then I can’t sleep as it feels weird. Anyone else have this?

…as in my knees are one on top of the other and normally there would be a cushion between them. Now there isn’t and it’s odd.

Oh my gosh yes! I thought this was just a weird me thing 😂 I sleep on my side too and now my knees feel so uncomfortable.

OverlyFragrant · 26/06/2025 23:04

Yeah my knees are boney as hell now.

ShoutOutLucile · 26/06/2025 23:04

I sleep on my side but my legs aren’t on top or each other neatly like that. I agree with you that your knees can’t be on top of each other, you will need to find a new position. Or put an actual cushion between your knees.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 26/06/2025 23:07

@Foreverm0re yes! I have been wanting to ask this for ages but haven’t as it felt so weird. It’s like I can’t get to sleep anymore in the same way as it’s bone on bone. I now spend ages readjusting to get a comfy angle. For so many years I have had a (fatty) cushion that has now gone and it’s weird trying to adjust.

Like I need to go back to the 60’s and enter a knobbly knee contest! I would surely be on the winners podium these days!

I am having to taper them, which pisses off DH as I am now (as a thinner person) taking up more bed space :-)

My sleeping position has had to keep changing throughout my weight loss whether it is because of sore hips, knobbly knees or heavy feeling loose skin.

My hips are better now and I don't notice knees as much, current problem is loose skin on tummy/apron feels squidgy now, weighs heavy and feels like it is pulling down on the skin on the side of my waist when I lie on my side, hopefully it will also disappear as the apron (hopefully!) gets a bit lighter.

DarkForces · 27/06/2025 09:45

I have hip bones now that are super annoying as a side sleeper (I mean I love them but yikes they're bony). I have to wiggle for ages to find the exact angle I can fall asleep in

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 27/06/2025 09:45

I sleep with a pillow between my knees - helps with the boniness and also keeps my hips in a better position

Pashazade · 27/06/2025 09:47

Yes the knees thing is weird and annoying and after discussing with a friend being way more aware of your tail bone! So uncomfortable at the theatre the other night, apparently you should get used to it but your body is just hyper aware that it’s currently different.

I'm a side sleeper and have also lost 5 stone but I always have the edge of the duvet between my legs. I have about another 5 stone to go so my legs are somewhat still padded.

Willowy2 · 27/06/2025 11:21

Sleep with a cushion between your knees, it keeps the pelvis in a good position as well as stops knees touching. I've always done this regardless of my size.

Iamtarticus · 27/06/2025 11:39

when I lost weight I went to the drs with a new lump on the bottom of my back convinced myself that my time was up. It was my coccyx, I felt so stupid

CagneyNYPD1 · 27/06/2025 11:48

Absolutely yes. 3 stone down and now have to sleep with a pillow in between my knees.

unsync · 27/06/2025 12:19

Same. It takes a bit of getting used to.
