Who takes the "golden dose".. has anybody had any adverse side effects?

It’s not golden. It’s a fifth dose.

Yes, done 11 now and no why should it give adverse side effects? It’s merely a fifth shot in each pen not something unknown.

MJalltheway · 21/06/2025 17:53

Yes, I extract the remaining medication from the pen and use it as an extra (measured) dose. I don't use all of it, just 0.6ml so it's the same dose as all the others. It's exactly the same medication, so you wouldn't get any different side effects except possibly if you were just using a larger dose than normal.

Manufacturer advises against it hence the question. Reassuring to know you have had no adverse reactions

I do, no side effects but there's no reason there would be any.

MJMabel · 21/06/2025 18:16

I do from every pen, no side effects, it’s exactly the same as the other doses.

UpsideDownChairs · 21/06/2025 18:26

You wouldn't get any side-effects that you wouldn't from the rest of the medication - it's not like the medication changes..

BUT, if you're not used to injecting yourself with a proper needle, if you don't use proper hygiene/procedures then you can cause yourself other problems. That's why they don't advise it.

WeAllHaveWings · 21/06/2025 18:29

The manufacturer advised against it because it means patients messing about with syringes, doing their own doses/measurements, and hygiene in a domestic environment all of which carries a risk. Also because it costs them when patients don't need to buy more medication to cover every 5th week.

Otherwise it is the exact same medication in the rest of the pen.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 21/06/2025 18:34

I do it every month.

this stuff is very expensive and so I’m using it all.

no extra side effects as it’s exactly the same stuff

Histoscientist · 21/06/2025 21:07

Yes used it from 8 pens I'm still alive and kicking..I don't even clean with the alcohol swab, not a single side effect or reaction in 8.5 months.

Doggymummar · 21/06/2025 21:12

It's the only dose that bruises me, because the needle is longer. I use 4mm needles for the quickpen and my syringes are 8mm

CRbear · 21/06/2025 21:14

I did it for the first time last week - I used 10% more than a normal dose because I had it. Thought it would be fine as I was planning to go up a dose the following week but I have experienced my first ever side effects (sulphur burps- I assume- because to me they were more corn chips like- and diarrhoea). Lesson learnt! Will stick to 0.6 next time! Also lucky to have realised I wouldn’t tolerate 10mg
