Can I do two separate injections of 2.5 at the same time on Mounjaro?

I've been on MJ for six weeks. At first I had good losses and good suppression, so I decided to stick with 2.5 for another 4 weeks. No sooner had I ordered the second batch of 2.5 than my suppression disappeared and I realised I should have gone up to 5. I spoke to my provider (Juniper) and was told that I couldn't just double up the dose because of the increased risk of side effects. Why would this be? I'm supposed to be on 5ml anyway, so why would giving myself two doses of 2.5 be risky??????

I’m sure you can do but it means that you’re using it in a way that hasn’t been licenced so the pharmacy can’t condone it.

I did this with my eighth dose of 2.5ml by taking the 'bonus dose' the same day as the last real dose. There are risks with each injection of infection and of a histamine reaction so it's not ideal but if you use a fresh needle and youv'e never had a histamine injection site reaction before you might risk it (i did).

I’ve done similar and was absolutely fine. Though I increased more gradually so 2.5 than half of a 2.5 (30 clicks) for 4 weeks and then went up to 5. I’ve done that with every increase, going up half a dose or less rather than doubling. It’s meant no nasty side affects, slower progression up the doses and cheaper as pens last longer.

Lots of people on here moderate doses by counting clicks so it’s not that unusual.

I haven't done it but many do. The problem you might have is Juniper might not let you order your next pen early. Perhaps work out how much you have left in the pen and if you can get enough 3.75mg doses to see you through until you next order (you might need a syringe for the last doses)

SlippySausage · 12/06/2025 15:41

Thanks everyone. So, the additional risk comes from doubling the chance of infection or a reaction by doing two injections instead of one?

@Iamthemoom I wondered about doing a half-way house like you suggest. I keep reading horror stories about 5, so it's tempting to do a soft launch!!

When I spoke to them about changing my mind and wanting to increase to 5 mg, they immediately approved the change and sent out a 5mg pen straight away. (I accidentally 'actioned' the delivery before I realised what I had done!). So, now I have a 2.5mg pen with three unused doses and an unused 5mg pen. So my next post will probably be about the logistics of keeping the 5mg pen in the fridge for three weeks longer than I'm meant to!

@SlippySausage Your 5mg pen is fine in the fridge until the expiry date listed on the box (which is likely to be some date in 2026) if you haven’t used it.
The 30 day timespan is from first use of a pen.

Oh that’s great news - thank you! It’s so expensive I didn’t want to waste it!!!!

I saw one of the American weight loss doctors saying that, if you had to inject twice, you should inject them as close together as is humanly possible as we don't know if 2 small separate injected doses might absorb differently to one larger one

Oh that's interesting. Too late for this dose, which I did this morning in two different thighs but I'll keep it in mind for next week. Thank you!
