When to give up - side effects

After a night of diarrhoea and hardly any sleep I’m wondering if I’ve reached the end of the line. I was fine on 2.5 and 5. Then went up to 6.25 about six weeks ago and had awful sulphur burps/belches which then progressed into days of D and V. I’m thinking I mustn’t have gone to 7.5 because I already knew something wasn’t quite right but I can’t quite remember my rationale. I then reduced to 5 but a couple of days later I had the same again but not as bad. I then reduced to 3.75 and again same but less bad again. I then took a week off and all was well. Took 2.5 after the week off and was grand although didn’t really feel the positive effects. Went up to 3.33 on Saturday night and three days later back to sulphur burps, slightly sore and dry tongue and then D D D overnight. No vomiting this time.

I’ve lost 2 stone which has brought my BMI to around 36 which is where I got to a few years ago. Since all this started I haven’t really lost anything major. Maybe this is just a plateau and I can get past it? I feel like I might’ve fecked up by messing around with random doses.

just wondering if anyone has faced similar and what they did?

I would try a series of 4 doses at 2.5mg and see how you get on. You’ve been on a bit of a rollercoaster of doses, and I think you need to allow time to get to a settled level dose and maintain that so that you’re not racing up or dropping quickly back down.

Im so sorry you have been having a rotten time with the D&V side effects.

I agree with PP that you could try sticking at 2.5 just to let things settle down.

Alternatively:
There was a thread here, much further down, where people with strong side effects were more successful with micro-dosing.
ie taking smaller doses but every 5/6 days.
Perhaps ask another question about micro-dosing and you might get some advice from those who are doing it or have tried it.
You can easily buy more needles and swabs for your pen to accommodate the extra but smaller doses.

What are you eating? Is there any particular food that sets it off? Have you tried changing your diet to minimise it?

eggyburps · 11/06/2025 09:30

Thank you both! I might try a week off again and then do four weeks of 2.5. Will look up the microdosing thread too - thank you!

I think you need to look at your food, to see what is making you feel like this, keep a food diary to see if you can pinpoint anything, some culprits can be dairy, meat, onions, for me it was cabbage and leaks.
I would also try and stick with one strength whilst going through this process and make sure you are drinking enough.

Also have you tried using Pepto Bismal ? It smells of germolene but if you hold your nose when taking it it’s tastes ok, slightly minty, it’s great for getting rid of sulphur burps and nausea.

Hi @FortyElephants- I eat the same-ish most days. For breakfast I have an egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and some wheaten. Then for lunch usually a wrap with lettuce, spinach, cucumber, carrot, cheese and chicken. Dinner can be more varied so that two nights ago I had a chicken curry with loads of veg. Last night because I wasn’t feeling great I didn’t eat too much - some turkey to up the protein and a bit of toast later on. I was drinking lots of tea and now can’t look at it so wonder is it the milk (I like a drop of tea with my milk)? But I drink lots of tea all the time.

i did try Pepto Bismal the last time and. It sure it made any difference. The burps have gone today thankfully!

I will start to keep a food diary as I know from years of WW and SW - there’s always things you don’t remember (or choose not to) after the fact! Thank you!
