I calorie count @Fffreeeeezing and I try to stay within my daily, even with days like that or eating out! I had a chippy fish last night and two, count them, TWO chips!

It has to be about balance, otherwise it’s not manageable in the long-term. I don’t plan to never have chippy or cheese or ice cream again and there’s no point pretending otherwise! But they do fit in a normal diet and I’m learning how I can balance that.

Fffreeeeezing · 22/06/2025 13:53

zaicandy · 22/06/2025 13:27

This is really sad. I remember a girl I follow online was on a diet (not MJ) and keeping it quiet. Her and her friends kept going out places with calorific food (as they tended to do) and when she didn’t want to order anything each time they said she was spoiling the meal. Which I can see on their part but was also cruel to her.

Don’t be sad, these were life long best friends and when I said I didn’t want pizza, no one asked why, they just asked what I did want and they would fit in with my preference. I assured them I was happy for them to have pizza so they did! They are well used to me being on a diet of some kind (haven’t we all?!) hence no questions and I know they would bend over backwards to accommodate my preferences over their own.

I’d have to prise the wine out of their cold dead hands mind you, but I’ve never been a drinker so I don’t care about that

PearlsPearl · 22/06/2025 14:00

I respect everyone's decisions! I've told everyone, literally. I'm an oversharer generally anyway 😄but actually it's been so interesting because I've learned loads of people are on them! (Oh my husband has been on them for 6 months/my sister is on them/my next door neighbour has lost 8 stone etc etc)

People have been nothing but positive

Fffreeeeezing · 22/06/2025 14:02

TragicMuse · 22/06/2025 13:46

Now that is an interesting conversation @zaicandy! I apologise for questioning your motives.

It’s often a balance for who to tell and who not to. Some experiences described in other threads have shown that even dear friends can be really judgemental in the way I described last night. Some are interested and positive about it. But it’s hard to know which way people will go if it’s not been in the conversation before.

For me, I’ve had a lifetime of diet talk and I just get really bored by it when it’s not people in a similar position to me or who are closer to my own weight. It’s hard to listen to friends talk about their diets when their journey is so vastly different to mine.

I also have some things to work through regarding my family’s relationship with my body. It’s been very very difficult at times and a few years ago I took the subject off the table. Assessment of, and commenting on, my body is not permitted, end of story. I have had to shut people down every time they’ve forgotten since then. I just cannot be arsed with revisiting it all because I’ll end up having to reset my boundaries again.

So, I have told some people and I haven’t told others. No one else has to have an opinion on that, or understand it, it’s just the way it is. I might change my mind. I might not. But, as with so many things, my body, my choice.

And in the meantime, I still go out for burgers, but I don’t eat the chips…

I am so with you @TragicMuse about the boring diet talk and with people in a vastly different weigh bracket.
I know my friends would support me on the MJ but they wouldn’t really understand because they haven’t had the lifetime of weight issues that I have. I don’t think they really even notice what I look like because it’s always been that way since we met as 7 year olds.

oh and I do flex the calories now and then but the suppression was doing it’s thing and this was the kinda pizza I wasn’t willing to flex for!

AlicesMum2025 · 13/06/2025 09:20

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I agree that our bodies can be weird. I've discovered that my body can fluctuate about 1.5kg (3lb) in a day! And since my period last week I've had a whoosh and lost another 1.7kg!! To me it reinforces how important it is not to get hung up on the scales and just trust the process. Eventually it will come off if I pay attention to what I'm eating and how much I'm exercising.

But you know all this of course, because you've lost an abstract amount of weight! Congratulations 🎉 Stick with it and the weight will start to come off again soon

I’ve been losing and gaining the same couple of pounds for a few weeks now. However, my shape is still changing and my clothes are becoming looser, inspite of what the scales are saying.

It’s still really annoying though. 😣

Same here although my mum asked me yesterday when I told her I have lost nearly seven stone ( haven't seen her since COVID and we talk maybe 4times a year) howve you done that, ? She's a pharmacist so will be clued up on the jabs. I just said being careful as it's none of ger business.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/06/2025 14:58

Well done @Billybingbong that's such an achievement.

@zaicandy please don't question or challenge our decisions. We've all spent our lives being stared at and judged.
I refuse to be judged for being on MJ.

There's plenty of judgement on MN generally for people on WLI. It's disappointing to encounter it on our thread, our safe space.

Not judging, I am also on it. All i said is people shouldn’t be ashamed and feel the need to keep it private for fear of idiots saying stuff. Stop making assumptions.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/06/2025 15:01

I have a milestone to share.

I've now lost 7 and a half stone.

Today I'm 12st 9lb after 18 months. I had a BMI of 50 when I started. I was over 20st.

Keep going, everyone. You'll get there.

Stop telling people what to do.

I didn’t tell people what to do. I was suggesting people shouldn’t feel embarrassed or ashamed or scared of people finding out. But if they are it’s ok- they are in charge of their own decision and we all deal with things differently. My opinion is not one everyone is going to agree with. Neither is yours.

We're not embarrassed or ashamed or scared FFS.

We're fully prepared to be JUDGED though. And scorned. And looked down upon.

We've spent a lifetime being judged. So no, a great many of us don't want to invite further judgement. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

🥳 seven and a half stone is phenomenal!! You are amazing! My eldest weighs 7 1/2 stone, you’ve lost her entire body weight 👏

I’m not suggesting telling randoms. If friends and family judge you it sounds like they need to be dropped. So sorry if that’s the case

Fffreeeeezing · 22/06/2025 15:41

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I have no idea what you mean about being judged………. just saw this on another thread about online dating and whether people should have to include their weight on their profile 🙄

I think we got off to a shaky start, it’s a bit of a triggering subject and many of us (not all) are fearful of reactions. You are right, we shouldn’t/ or don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed but unfortunately in today’s very judgy society that’s what happens. I wish I was more thick skinned and comments would just go straight over my head, but many of us have had this from childhood, I can’t speak for everyone, only me. I’m proud of what I have achieved using this drug. But I’ll never be able to shake of the fat shame drilled into me by my mother, how I would fail at everything as I can’t control my greed, how I would never be loved as I can’t control my greed… I think it goes a bit deeper than not feeling embarrassed. I wish I had your confidence 😊
How long have you been taking it and how are you finding it?

Maybe this thread isn’t for you @zaicandy we aren’t really interested in arguing semantics with you, it’s not a topic that’s part of our usual chat because it’s unimportant.

Do you have anything more useful to contribute to the thread? Maybe other threads will be more your style.

If you have no idea what we mean about being judged, you are clearly not more than ten stone overweight, so you're on the wrong thread.
