Puddles! What am I doing wrong?

Just taken my 3rd Mounjaro dose. Every single time there's a big dribble at my injection site. I inject slowly and always leave it for at least 5 seconds but it's happened each time.

What am I doing wrong? 😩

Stupid question, but is the needle definitely fully in you and you're holding it in as you inject? A small amount left on the skin isn't unusual though.

Yes, right up to the hilt! It's not a particularly small amount I'd have thought... given how small the dose is!

Is Mounjaro working for you yet, in terms of feeling the appetite suppression effects and feeling fuller longer? If everything seems ok then I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes @SilenceInside its working well so I ought not to worry too much.
Just a shame to waste if it's avoidable.

Thanks for your replies 🙂

Just a thought.. are you pressing the plunger down slowly. Only as I watched my friend do hers the other day and she pushed it so quick, I was like woah, why so quick, she didn't seem fussed.. but I press quite slow then wait 5 to 10 seconds and only ever had a drop or none left on my skin..

SecretSquirrel703 · 06/06/2025 12:59

i wasn't paying attention properly on my 4th jab & pressed the plunger probably a little too quickly & didn't leave it for 10 seconds or so after, 1st little puddle appeared. Lesson learnt - slow & leave it for longer than you think 😊

How big is the dribble? I get a bead sometimes (residue from priming or a tiny bit of backflow at the injection site), but just dab it with cotton wool before it dribbles - i think it sometimes looks more than it is if it starts dribbling.

Are you injecting at a 90 degree angle into fatty tissue (away from belly button). You could try a skin fold (using thumb and forefinger only) to make sure it is getting into fatty tissue.

Do you keep holding down the dose knob while you count to 5 (or even try 10 Mississippi)?

You could try a slightly longer needle (6mm instead of 4mm)

This - I was told to hold the pen in place for 10secs after I’ve injected.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

I have been pushing the plunger in slowly, and then waiting 5-10 seconds afterwards, thumb still on plunger.

I think at the right angle and place: twice on my thigh then this morning on my belly.

How big is the dribble? It spread out the best part of a centimetre. Given that the amount we inject anyway is small, it seems a lot!
It also seems to be less effective today, which makes me think I got an unsatisfactory dose because it usually kicks in pretty quickly.

I'll adopt the even slower and hold it for longer approach and see if that helps.

Thank you all 🙂

This happened to me last week but when I had primed my needle a lot of liquid came out and I just assumed it was from that as it ran down the needle to the end of the pen. So I figured it had transferred onto my skin when I done the injection but I’m not 100% sure if that was the case or if it came back out. This week I had a new pen and needles and the tiniest pin sized drop came out when I primed and there wasn’t a drop on my skin.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 06/06/2025 20:24

I see what you mean @Username12284949 the priming dose running back down... I'll look out for that! Thanks.

I was worried about this on Sunday too (second jab). I did the same as week 1 when there was none! I have the same suppression though so I'm sure it still went in, but I WAS worried.
