Hi I am travelling overseas short haul from uk airport and wanted to know about your experiences with taking your pens through security.
do I need to put the pen in the ‘liquids’ bag or can I leave it in my hand luggage to be scannned?
and what about the gel ice pack.
i am travelling with people who don’t know I take this medication so don’t want them to see the pen.

You can leave it in your hand luggage for scanning but your bag will pulled out and be searched if you have a cool bag and gel pack in there.

Depends which airport, some have the new scanners. Medication isn’t part of your allowance but you need to carry a copy of your prescription

It’s East Midlands air port

I left my pen in my carry-on bag two weeks ago with a small cool pack and it got through security scanners fine. No-one needed to look at it and I didn’t put it in a clear bag separately.
