Please will someone explain the clicks?

Hello. I have taken delivery of a 2.5mg MJ pen and would like to start even more gradually with 1.25, as I have a tendency to IBS anyway. I have seen people talking about the number of clicks, but the instructions don’t really mention clicks at all. Is this something that will become apparent once I actually use it? I’m scared to mess it up.
Thank you

The instructions don’t mention it because you don’t need to worry about counting how many clicks the pen makes when you turn it, as you just turn it out to the 1 mark on the pen for a full dose. But if you did count, either the clicks or each black marker lines, it would be 60 clicks to wind it out to the 1 position for a full dose. So, for a half dose of 1.25mg as you want, you’d turn it for 30 clicks only rather than all the way to the 1 position. Then you’d follow the rest of the instructions as normal and inject.

When you pull out the plunger of the pen it goes out in little clicks. This is a really good video to watch before you do your first jab.

There are 60 clicks in each single full dose.
so, for example, in a 2.5mg pen, 30 clicks give you half the dose = 1.25mg
Follow this link and you can see how many clicks you need, depending on the dosage of your pen, and the dose you are choosing.

Hope that helps.

If you’re only injecting 1.25 you’re injecting “ off label” - not quite sure of the correct term. It’s not designed to deliver that quantity. ( it’s a bit like the golden - extra dose that’s not designed to be used ). You’ll find lots of information from users about their practice but don’t look to the manufacturer or pharmacy to explain or endorse these practices because they won’t. Good luck with your weight loss

Thank you, everyone! I’m very grateful for your explanations. If I actually pluck up the courage to do it, I’ll let you know how I get on’

Clicks will become apparent when you use it. You will need instructions on how to prime and use your pen. I used the Numan one on YouTube as she’s easy to follow but there are loads of others. Basically when getting your pen ready to inject you have to twist the base. As you do this it makes a clicking noise. For a full dose you unwind to the number one marker, and if you count you’ll see that that is 60 clicks. So if you want a half dose as in your case, listen to the clicks and count 30 of them and stop. Then what you inject will be a half dose. I did 1.25 to start after a terrible 3 weeks trying 2.5 then having a break because of side effects. I’m just up to 5mg now after 6 months, and it’s going slowly but very well.

I counted clicks when moving up from 2.5mg so I did a couple of weeks of 3.75mg before increasing to 5mg which worked really well for me. My biggest piece of advice is to draw a mark of some sort on the 30 clicks line so if you do another half dose you don't have to count all the clicks again.

Good luck with your journey! I'm at the end of week 13 and have just hit the 2 stone off mark. Still on 5mg and didn't increase from there because it has worked so well for me.

Just note that once you use your pen it should be used within 30 days and doing half doses will obviously push you over that and you shouldn’t use it anymore. I’m assuming you still will though rather than throwing away half a pen?

It is bit nerve wracking the first time. Take your time and read the instructions through at least once before doing it.
Also, the needle is tiny. When I first saw it I could not believe it would be big enough, in fact It is so small I don't really feel it.

There is also a 'June starters' thread that you may find supportive as you go on this journey.

I am 6 months in now, 3.5 stone down and feel amazing.

Now this is a good idea! I am sticking with 2.5mg but had ordered a 5mg pen as I thought that's what I needed, but fiendish constipation means I'm sticking with 2.5 for now, and I have been counting the clicks each time.

Thank you!

PearlsPearl · 03/06/2025 20:09

I've started on 1.25 and it's working well for me. As everyone's said above just count to 30 clicks instead of 60. I've taken an assessed risk that I'm happy to use my pen after the 30 days expiration.

WiseSeal · 03/06/2025 22:06

Thank you so much for all these replies! I’m grateful for the time you have taken to help and give your experiences. In terms of using the pen past the 30 days, I don’t think it’s likely - I’m very risk-averse, hence all my procrastination! It’s quite late now, so I’m going to reread all your responses and follow up links and videos tomorrow.
