Question about sugar - tasting sweet?

Had my second mounjaro jab this morning. I normally take 1/4 teaspoon of sugar in my tea (long story, don’t ask!) but for some reason this Mir ing, my tea is tasting really sweet. Is this something to do with the medication?

Yes it definitely changes taste buds and cravings too. I've barely touched chocolate, desserts, biscuits in almost 8 months of it. I'm also not cravings carbs like I used to.

Yes same! Everything too strong too sweet etc. I have not had a biscuit or piece of chocolate really in 6 weeks and not looked for it!

BigTumSad · 31/05/2025 09:44

Sadly for me, one of the few things I can eat on mounjaro is chocolate and sweets! Everything else feels too filling! But I'll happily have a haribo or a dairy milk bar!! 🤷

Yep I took my first one last Sunday and can't drink my morning coffee, I usually have 1 teaspoon of sweetener and I've dropped to under half a teaspoon now.

PoisonIvy89 · 31/05/2025 22:44

yep, sweet things are too sweet and salty things are too salty!

Yes. I had a sip of my boyfriend's milkshake yesterday and it was foul. So sweet and sickly. I started in mid February, and the thought of a chocolate brownie or similar makes me feel sick now (Not in a nausea/side effects way). I used to have a sweet treat such as a cake or a bun most days before MJ. I barely touch sweet things anymore.

Yes! I had one crème egg over Easter and the face I made was like I had eaten a lemon. So sweet!

LuckyPlant · 01/06/2025 08:20

I’ve noticed that too. Things that are usually sugary, like chocolate, seem pretty normal to me but I had a Thai green curry yesterday that tasted sweet and my usual breakfast smoothie with just a splash of maple syrup was all wrong too.

The whole point of MJ is that you can make better choices. I’d advise as low carb as possible, a decent quantity of healthy fats to protect your pancreas and a ton of protein to protect your muscles. And start to exercise in any way you can.

You really need to protect yourself by making good choices and use the MJ to make better choices possible.

Thanks for that totally unwanted and not asked for 'advice', this thread was literally not asking for that opinion. We all know that!

Anyway I put a sweetener sachet in a coffee today in a cafe and couldn't believe the sweetness. Usually I'd have 2!

RebelliousHoping · 01/06/2025 21:03

I found I’ve gone off coffee again and craving all sorts of different tea’s, herbal through to more unusual where you can get a biscuit flavoured tea.

I thought I was imagining this! Sugary or sweet things taste so artificially sweet now and salty things taste too salty!
