For those of you who stayed on 2.5mg more than 1 month..

Did you suppression remain for that second month or did it fade quickly into the second month?
I get my jab through a private Gp and he advised on Friday that I stay at 2.5mg for another month as I lost 1stone 1lb in 4 weeks which is a little fast. I think this was due to very low calories( too low) and helped along obviously by good suppression in week 1 and some suppression and a lot of willpower the remaining 3 weeks. He convinced me to stay on 2.5mg another 4 weeks, injected Friday night and I have been starving the last few days, literally stomach growling with hungry and I’m eating much more - up to my tdee- 300 really.
The reason I needed Mounjaro was to stabilise the blood sugar rushes and yesterday I felt they were back again. Really cross at myself as spent money on a 2.5mg pen and took 1 dose on Friday which I think is pointless now. I’m not sure if they let me buy another pen before the month is up tbh though could contact them. Or give it a few days/ week and see if it settles - though Shotsy says I’m already passed the highest in my system now😩.
what would you do? I also have the remaining but in my old pen that I could extract to give myself a “ top up” micro dose but I’m just on the 30days today and bit reluctant to mess about with doses for fear of doing it wrong etc.
any advise, what would you do? I still have just over 3 stone to lose to get into a healthy bmi!

I’ve been on 2.5 since January, nearly 3 stone down. I fast every morning (roughly 16:8) and get no growly tummy as you describe. I do also aim for 100g protein a day which I think helps. Are there any little tweaks you could make to just get you through the next 3 weeks? Rumbling tummy would be my cue to go up a dose but it’s just never happened for me so far.

By the way, from a practical perspective I like being on 2.5. I’ve taken a couple of breaks (one for an operation and another for a short holiday) and it does mean there’s no need to reset your dose as you’re on the starting dose already. I’m planning on a 2 week break in July.

That being said, it sounds like you need to increase. Good luck!!

TourangaLeila · 26/05/2025 10:25

How much water are you drinking and how much protein are you getting daily?

I find both of these things help me to support the suppression and maintain a deficit.

Suppression feels different for everyone, be careful not to "chase suppression" as you can only go up in doses so far. Learn to work with it and focus on your nutrition.

It's OK to feel hungry. Though 2.5 is only a starter dose and you may want to experiment.

StartingApril2025 · 26/05/2025 10:32

@FattyBumBumNoMore @TourangaLeila thank you both! I think the hunger the last few days just set a panic but your right it’s fine to be hungry ready for meals. I think as I was away for the weekend with family my protein levels were probably a bit low and my carb levels a bit high so back home this morning and will get a good shop in for the week ahead! I never really eat cereal as is affects my blood sugars and makes me hungry an hour later and I had a bowl at 10 pm ( limited options where I was) last night so that could well be the problem.
will settle myself back into my high protein and plenty of fibre meals this week and loads of water and see how I go! Thanks
youve both done so wonderfully , such great progress and very inspiring for someone new like me to hear how things go longer term too x thanks for sharing!

I also find I am far hungrier in luteal phase of my cycle too. So I allow for that 😊

If your calorie tracking it may help to think of your calories as a monthly or weekly goal rather than daily. This allows flexibility where you need it (holidays ect)

Sallycinnamum · 26/05/2025 10:44

I'm on my second month of 2.5mg and I'm still losing although more slowly than the start.

The suppression the first 2 weeks in was incredible and I really had to force myself to eat but it has waned.

As I have PCOS I think some of my weight gain was due to insulin resistance and I believe Moujaro helps with this so might explain why I'm still losing on a small dosage.

That said, I may have to go up to 5mg next month is the next 3 and a half weeks prove to be unsuccessful.

I know 2.5mg is a therapeutic dose but I read an article yesterday that suggests it may be as beneficial for users as moving up a dose but I guess time and further research will tell.

It's ok to be hungry on Mounjaro but I'm still surprised how little I can actually eat when I do get hunger pangs so the lower dose is still working for me.

Great advice... I'm trying to up my protein and wondered how you reach 100g!! Have saved this but I'm not a huge meat eater.... Salmon/eggs/greek yogurt/cottage cheese are my go to.... Would really appreciate some top tips 😘

@StartingApril2025 its so hard as our own journeys on this are unique to us and we all find our own path with it. For me it’s a combination of 2-3l of water pd, fasting, a good protein boost in the afternoon (Willpowder is my go to) and retraining my brain for the long term. I agree that being hungry is part of that retraining and how far you can push that feeling. I am definitely hungry when I hit lunch and dinner but not lightheaded or empty stomach ravenous.

Ah I get it if you don’t eat meat. When I eat chicken, on those days I barely need to track it. Same as you though, I eat cottage cheese and Greek yoghurt every day. I switched to 0% Fage to keep the calories down. Willpowder protein (tho it contains bone broth) has been a lifesaver to dampen down sugar cravings and I’m definitely more balanced about my view on food choices. I also eat pulses and beans but it’s not quite the same protein hit as chicken. Sadly as I love them!

FattyBumBumNoMore · 26/05/2025 11:05

As an example of a veggie dinner, say tofu stir fry, i also protein bulk it with about 20g cashews and 40g edamame. my evening sweet treat is usually a skyr salted caramel yoghurt (16g protein)

Incognitoburrito88 · 26/05/2025 11:05

I’m on my 8th dose of 2.5mg. I only really had suppression the first couple of weeks. I didn’t like it and it’s not how I want to lose weight - I’ve got four daughters one of whom has an eating disorder so I need to be exhibiting sensible eating at the dinner table. I am definitely more hungry than I was the first month but am happy with my rate of loss (1st 5lb so far) and I don’t mind having to use a bit of willpower. I struggle a bit with protein as I’m veggie and I think if I could be filling up on chicken it would be much easier!! What the jab is still doing is stopping me from craving unhealthy snacks and preventing the urge to binge when I get stressed - for me if it’s managing that I can cope with a bit of hunger. I have a 5mg pen in the fridge but I’m seriously considering staying on 2.5mg next month too…

@FattyBumBumNoMore @Mich57 @Sallycinnamum @TourangaLeila
thanks for the sharing and advice!
I am in my literal phase so thats a good reminder too.
i looked up willpower and reviews are excellent my problem is I absolutely hate any milkshake, icecreamy creamy type things- I don’t even take milk in my tea or coffee. So always put off any powders I tried.
thank you

I mix it in Greek yogurt. I’m the same with milkshakes too 🤢 They also have recipes on their website. If I have a glut of calories at the end of the day, I’ve been known to mix the yoghurt, protein powder and a teaspoon of M&S chocolate orange spread as a proper treat 😂 A far cry from when I’d just scoff an entire Chocolate Orange in one go!!

Hallywally · 26/05/2025 12:31

2.5 was pretty useless for me- slight effects but I had a starting weight BMI of 27 (with associated health conditions) so maybe that’s why. I’ve found 5mg much more effective.

notenoughhere · 26/05/2025 12:39

I have been o. 2.5 for 6 months. I hated the initial suppression it gave me. I struggled to eat most days. Now I eat 3 decent but healthy meals most days. I have a bar of chocolate sometimes and enjoy a bit of cake too. I get hungry and I have an apetite but the 2.5 is enough to shut out the food noise and constant desire to binge. It’s helped my ADHD, inflammation and anxiety too

Histoscientist · 26/05/2025 13:20

Is there a reason why you are going through a private GP? There are lots of good pharmacies that provide support too like Oushk and many others and can imagine are a lot cheaper!
I'd recommend having a look at www.monj.co.uk which has regulated pharmacies with discounted offers list and regular price list to compare. Look at a few reviews on trustpilot too.
It's quite easy to switch, you need a photo or email of previous prescription.
2.5mg only lasted 2 weeks for me but then I am/was prediabetic so needed the higher doses.

I'm about to order my 4th 2.5 pen. In 11 weeks I've lost 30lb, and still losing at a good rate. I only really eat 2 meals a day as just not hungry still. I still have times where I need to force myself to eat, which is something I never ever thought would happen! I remember my ex husband used say he forgot to eat lunch and thought how was that even possible, but there have been days where I've got to 3pm and thought, I'd better eat something.

I've bounced around suppliers and my latest has said to only consider going up if you've lost less than 4lb in a 4 week period

Up your protein and water and track your calories and see how you go.

StartingApril2025 · 26/05/2025 23:44

@Histoscientist thanks for the info I had decided to go through a local private GP as I had gotten a recommendation and they were able to do blood tests for me at the start ( worried I was pre diabetic) as unfortunately haven’t been able to get an nhs appointment in months. I did a little comparison there of the prices and the price I pay for the injection is not much more expensive (£140 for 2.5mg, (£150 for 5mg and up in £10 after that) however you are paying to have the initial doctor appointment and the check ups which can be done in person or the phone so that increases the cost. I was also nervous to start so liked having a person to chat with however maybe you have that with the pharmacist online too? At the minute I’m happy as if I have any questions I can contact the doctor and ask( haven’t yet!)but will see how things go. The prices do vary wildly which I hadn’t realised- boots was a shocker!!
@JabbaJibba thanks that’s useful- 4lb in 4 weeks a good indicator.
i was ok the rest of today in the end , had a pretty unhealthy dinner as was out for dinner with the kids at a burger type place but not massive portion . I had chicken and soup for lunch and some crisps- though they tasted weird to me whereas I usually love a crisp!
breakfast when I was super hungry this morning was a slice of toast and an egg and then a second slide with cottage cheese and ham and that did the trick until my soup later on.
Got a food shop and have the protein meals planned for tomorrow and rest of the week . The guide shared by @Mich57 is helpful , I’m getting a bit sick of chicken so need to diversify 🤣
thanks for everyone’s help in my wobble!! Maybe it takes a little longer to build in my system unlike everyone else- the Shotsy app is not that helpful to me in that regard!

I started at the end of March and have gone from BMI 30 to 26 on 2.5 only. I am losing 1.5-2lbs generally each week.

I do find my hunger varies a bit. I think I had some weeks in the second month where I lost a lot less but that was mainly because I was feeling unwell and so not exercising much (I normally get 16k-20k steps per day). I had one week where I injected too fast and some leaked out and I think I was a bit hungrier that week. I tend to be hungrier on days 5-7 but it is balanced out nicely by the first few days.

I would suggest trying not to worry too much and see what your loss is later in the month and move up if you need to. Realistically, we are going to have to take this medication for life so try not to worry about wasting a month and the money. This weight loss phase will seem like a really short period of time when you are done with it and maintaining. I would rather have a slow and steady weight loss and less risk of loose skin etc. than a rapid loss.

Also 2.5 has been enough to fix my blood sugar issues, but we might have very different issues (I was going hypoglycaemic before). There has literally been one time since starting where I felt my blood sugars might be a little low, but I ate something and that resolved it.

See how you go anyway - most people will need more than 2.5 but it can be good for some people including me so far.
