Lost suppression moving to 5mg

Lardybumbum · 24/05/2025 15:23

I’m on my second week of 5mg and I’m way hungrier and getting more cravings/notions than I did on my first three weeks at 2.5mg.

when I started I felt the suppression right away and the food noise stopped completely. It was like a revelation and that lasted 3 weeks. Week 4 I got hungry by Wednesday and the weightloss stopped despite sticking to reduced calories. But I’ve been hungry and craving crisps or chocolate (and I don’t even like chocolate!) for at least half of the last two weeks, usually from Wednesday on. Aside from Friday I haven’t given in to this (I had a packet of hula hoops on Friday). I’ve kept to my calories deficit based on tdee and am eating far healthier than before. Drinking plenty of fluid. My weight loss seems to be losing and adding the same 2lbs for the past three weeks.

The side effects have gone too. There was something reassuring about the slow stomach emptying and constipation, like it let me know it was all working. I Don’t have that anymore.

Does this just mean I need to wait until higher doses to get that suppression again or is it likely that my body is rebelling hard and the noise/cravings are just stronger than the medicine?

@Lardybumbum I’ve been thinking the same today! First week of 5mg was great, last week it made me feel horrible for a few days but once that passed I was hungry and the food noise came back. Took my third jab yesterday and today feel fine and hungry! I’m due to order my new pen this week so will be asking to move up to 7.5mg. I’ve read others saying similar and that on 7.5mg it’s business are normal. I hope so!!

Doggielovecharlotte · 24/05/2025 15:43

Oh gosh..I’m so glad it’s not just me

i had 3 peanut ice cream bars one after the other this week

just gone up to 5mg after 4 weeks of 2.5 and like you I’m craving chocolate and processed food.

although it is much easier to resist, but I could quite happily sit on the sofa munching crisps all day

I had much more suppression on 2.5mg so it’s very weird

FortyElephants · 24/05/2025 15:52

This is really common. The difference between 2.5 and 5 is much less than the difference between 2.5 and zero. You need to keep moving up the doses until you find the level that works best for you, that might be 15mg and that's not a bad thing

Doggielovecharlotte · 24/05/2025 15:54

Oh really..thank goodness to know…I had assumed it would be double the suppression

how do you know this stuff?

and what if we zoom up to 15mg? Worried it will wear off

Middayfever · 24/05/2025 18:59

@Doggielovecharlotte , have a look at the sensible vloggers on YouTube, my life's toil is a good one , he is a paramedic himself so very sensible, he gives lots of tips and info as well as documenting his own journey, which hasn't been plain sailing. Regarding zooming up to 15 your prescriber wouldn't let you do that it has to be in increments for obvious reasons. Jumping straight up to 15 say from 2.5 presumably might make you very ill. Lots of people don't make it up to 15 , they find their sweet spot somewhere in-between.

I've been on Mounjaro since July. I've also read lots of posts on here and many people have the same experience. Going from no Mounjaro to any Mounjaro is quite a shock to the system and often leads to strong results at first but it's not actually a high dose so once you've got used to 2.5, the jump to 5 isn't very noticeable. It doesn't wear off. I went to 15mg by going up each month apart from the month I went to 7.5 as I had unpleasant side effects that time so I stayed for 2 months. Now I'm trying to titrate down so I can move towards maintenance but I assure you it still works :)

Doggielovecharlotte · 24/05/2025 19:22

Thank you!

I will check that out

ah I meant every month having to go up - I’m going order a 7.5mg pen for my next order

Me too!

Thank you all. Apologies for not returning sooner. Life got in the way! It’s reassuring to know it’s normal. I’ve ordered my next pen a 7.5. Fingers crossed I’m ok with it and it works more than four days!
