Eating and alcohol!

Hi lovelies 😘
I'm patiently waiting for my first delivery and stalking all the posts around MJ.

Just wondering if anybody is following slimming world at the same time? I've lost about a stone with about another 3 stone to go. Eat fairly healthy as a rule but alcohol is my weakness. I don't drink all week but will have some on a Saturday evening.

Have you found SW can be followed on MJ?

I'd love to hear your experiences please 🙏🏼

I’m doing WW and WW has a WLI programme built into the app which makes it easier. I don’t know if SW does or not?

Whatever plan you follow you’ll need to prioritise eating protein as your body will need it! So for example, today I’ve had scrambled eggs for breakfast with a little smidge of butter for flavour. For lunch I’m planning a tuna wrap (with loads of spinach) and then for dinner I’m having roasted salmon with veg and a sauce of some description. Normally this would sound like a boring day of food for me but I’m finding with WLI, I’m much more drawn to eat good proteins and veg (instead of cramming in the carbs and fat!)

That's really helpful! Thank you.... I'm thing my protein will have to be increased and carbs dropped! 🫣😊

I drink almost no alcohol now. It doesn’t have the same effect it had prior to MJ. Also I don’t miss it that much either. I would have wine every weekend and maybe a cheeky glass in the week if I fancied it.

As foe SW, I’m not a fan, I don’t think loading up on carbs is healthy. I use a balance plate - 1/4 carbs, 1/4 protein and 1/2 veg. I’ve lost 21lb in 12 weeks this way.

I’m not sure it would work that well. My experience of slimming world is that they encourage bulk eating and are fairly high carb low fat. In itself this is fine but MJ leads to you feeling full much quicker so I don’t think the large portions of slimming world would work. From what I remember lean protein was not sinned so I guess you could continue to follow it while prioritising protein but I’m not sure it would be worth paying for it along with MJ. I use a lot of the ethos and recipes from Fast800 and feel that works well with higher protein small portion lifestyle. Your best bet might be to try it and see… good luck :)

Thank you, I totally agree with the ethos of SW and don't follow it! What does work for me is the speed foods. I'm very conscious of how some eat huge volumes.... My husband for one!! But good advice 😊 thank you!

I've been on MJ since October, I was previously going to slimming world. I now hardly eat any carbs, on most days I would still be within SW plan but I am eating a lot less and prioritising protein.

Before MJ I would use my syns for chocolate, but I no longer crave chocolate, I track calories now, but have no problem eating less.

I have drunk alcohol since being on MJ and haven't experienced any side effects, but I rarely drink now as I just don't really miss it and I did read that drinking alcohol can make MJ less effective. I don't want to spend £150 a month on medication then risk it not working for the sake of a couple of drinks. I haven't had an alcoholic drink since March.

If it helps, here’s the WLI screen on the WW app. It gives you a protein and veg goal every day and this reduces as you lose weight. At the bottom of the screen it tracks your calories too and I keep mine to around 1000-1200 per day. I’d genuinely struggle to eat more than that as I fill up so quickly.

I think nutracheck app also has a WLI programme built in too. I agree with the others that SW and the idea of bulking out on free foods, might not easily work with this. You’ll genuinely find it hard to eat that much. But see how you go. :)

Hi,

I’m doing Slimming World but have found them (not head office) quite unsupporting during my recent plight of reduced mobility as soon as they learnt I was on the injections that was it, cold shoulder, despite it not giving me humongous loss each week, rather controlling my diabetes which I worked hard with exercise to get into remission. Really quite upset. I cannot be the only doing the injections and going to what I thought was a friendly group with scales but if they want to delude themselves others aren’t doing this, fair does and karma to them.

You can drink on the one off on the main injection (just not really Wegovy.) you may get drunk quicker and have a more heavy hangover. Drink plenty of water next day.

idrinkandiknowthings · 23/05/2025 13:54

I was really hoping that my taste for wine would evaporate on MJ, like it has for many others, but it hasn't! It doesn't appear to be reducing the effect, I'm still losing weight.

Oh that's such a shame.... I won't be telling them and may not renew but continue to follow the plan with less carbs and more protein.... I'm sorry they weren't more supportive 😕

I'd be delighted if I lost my desire for my Saturday glass of cold, crisp, gooseberry sauv... 🫣 Perhaps I won't automatically want the whole bottle 😂🙏🏼

I’m seven weeks in and still drink and enjoy alcohol… but I rarely want a second drink (I wasn’t a big drinker to begin with) and I do feel more tipsy on a ridiculously small amount of alcohol. I generally have a bottle of beer on Thursday and Friday nights and have still lost over a stone in seven weeks.
