Question about travel/refrigeration

I’ve read that pens can be kept out of the fridge once they are “in use”. Can anyone confirm if this means just “prepped” or having actually been used to administer a dose?

Hoping it’s the former as my travel will require me to take a pen that I’d midway through and another to be started when I’m away and I only have a cooling pouch, not a fridge. Thanks!

@JamesGetIn Once the pen gets above fridge temperature (above 8 degrees C) the instructions are that you then have 30 days to use the pen. That applies whether it's been used or not. Regardless, once you start using a pen, you also have 30 days to use the pen, whether it's kept in the fridge or not.

So, your midway used pen will be fine out of the fridge. The unused pen should be kept refrigerated (less than 8 degrees C) until you do the first dose from it. If you can't keep it refrigerated, then the 30 days countdown will have started before you start using it. You would need to work out if you can then fit all the remaining doses in within the remaining time.

I don’t understand what ‘prep’ work you would do with a pen that would making it ‘in use’ - I just put mine in the fridge and leave it there until I need it. No prep involved.

once you use it (pierce the membrane) the pen is considered ‘used’ or ‘open’ and it is fine for the 30 days, in or out of the fridge.

Yeah the pen you are currently using will be fine but the new one will need to stay in the fridge till you need to start it..
