Mounjaro hair loss fear

I have ordered Mounjaro and my first pen arrived yesterday - however I am terrified of using it because of hair loss worries.

A few years ago I lost 3 stone in 3 months due to gallbladder issues and it caused me to lose about a 1/3 of my hair.

I know that having hair loss is preferable to being dangerously overweight but it caused me so much anxiety last time and my hair has never fully recovered.

I feel ridiculous but I can’t get past the fear.

I've been losing at a healthy rate, between 1-2lb a week and I've been absolutely fine. Just make sure you're still eating. It's a long term solution but too many people treat it like a quick fix and I think that's where a lot of the issues come from.

I have lost at the rate of about 1.5 Lbs per week so not a rapid loser. I’ve been taking the medication since November 24 and am now on 12.5mg. At first I was ok but recently I’ve been experiencing hair loss which is quite significant, thankfully my hair is very thick. I’m taking Biotin now but I can’t see that it’s helping yet. 😔

You might experience hair loss. You can’t do anything that will definitely avoid it. Losing weight slowly can reduce the risk. Some people think collagen helps but there’s no solid evidence for it. If you do get hair loss, it usually self resolves after a few months.

Only you can decide if the risk of hair loss outweighs the benefits of losing weight for you.

I'm losing up to 2 pounds per week. Hair loss has been horrendous. It can happen but may not happen to you. I know people who have had no loss at all. I have lost weight plenty of times but never had this so I know it's the medication. I have accepted it and will wear a wig if I have to. I need the weight off

I've lost 25% of my body weight - nearly 4 stone in 6 months, and my hair hasn't fallen out. I've tried to keep my protein intake higher, and generally ate 1000-1500 calories a day (I'm now maintaining on 1700-2000).

I have dieted lots of times and generally lost the average 2lb a week… no hair loss. I did Fast800 a couple of years ago - excellent rapid loss but my hair fell out in chunks - it was terrifying. I’ve been on MJ for 6 wks now and lost 16lbs so far no hair loss but I’m worried I’m losing too fast and it will kick in. I really think it’s rapid loss not the medication. I’m still on the minimum dose and trying to maximise protein but other than that I can’t really slow things down as my body seems very unpredictable - if my hair falls out I will cope and it will come back once I’m at my goal weight!

It's due to calorie intake as I'd it falls too low below the BMR then the body doesn't have enough energy for all its processes to will stop giving energy to a non essential process first which is maintaining hair. I've lost a fair bit of hair and lashes and I'm a slow loser of 1lb a week but my deficit has been 1200 for a few months, it is now 1163 and my BMR is 1363 so I literally have to eat less than my BMR to lose weight due to my weight of 10st 9lbs bmi 26.4 and office job. I take collagen, biotin, protein shakes and focus on protein but only find hair loss slows down when I eat more on my days before jabbing due to suppression wearing off.

I’ve lost 3 stone since August and I haven’t lost any hair. In fact mine has grown thicker & longer. Please try not to panic too much
