I want to give it a go but worried

I’ve been following many of the threads about the weight loss injections. I have two stone to lose and I can’t shift it,

I want to give it a go but I’m really worried they will make me ill. I’m very sensitive to many prescription drugs. Generally they upset my stomach or stop me sleeping. These are both things I feel unable to tolerate currently.

Many posters seem to feel unwell on these injections, or is it just those people posting.

Can anyone give me some good news please?

Do you qualify for MJ (assuming that is what you are talking about) - what is your BMI?

People do tend to post more about negatives looking for advice. I've been on since July with minimal side effects and have lost over 6 stone. Now BMI 22.6.

Yes I qualify for MJ. Thanks for posting. What were your side effects, if you don’t mind me asking?

I was so nervous about starting but now I only wish I'd started earlier! 7 weeks in and I've lost 12 pounds, the only wide effects I've had is nausea for a few days when moving up a dose but that's it!

HansHolbein · 14/05/2025 10:54

No side effects, apart from being cold. Just over 6st down since October. BMI 37.7 to 23.2. The alternative was to stay fat.

Personally, the only time I feel bad on mounjaro is when I eat poorly, things not recommended like fatty meat. When I eat a well balanced diet I feel absolutely fine, in fact better than I used to because I have now removed most unhealthy foods/upf etc.. If you do start, just take it slowly, no need to rush up the doses. I stayed on 5mg for months and still on 7.5mg after 6 months.

Oh yes, so cold!!

@Aliceisagooddog hopefully this will help us in the summer!

I have minor side effects- feel a little sick mostly on days 1-3. When I moved to 5mg I had a redness and itchiness where I injected.

The starting dose is quite low and you have a good ability to control the dose and move up slowly as your body adjusts to it.

However it isn't for everyone and it isn't a magic wand so if you don't want to take it , that's fine too. For me the health benefits if I lose weight are greater than the risk of side effects and harm from taking them. I'm only in month 2 though so it's early days.

AmythestBangle · 14/05/2025 11:05

Only side effects have been constipation (and I think that may be related to eating so much less rather than the MJ per se), and feeling cold, which, as someone who has had hot flushes and night sweats for a decade, is fantastic! I have lost 2 stone since January.

SilenceInside · 14/05/2025 11:40

What you see online is skewed because people tend to post when they need advice or support through something difficult. It gives the impression that most people are having lots of side effects, when that isn't really the case. Just bear in mind that for every one person posting about difficult side effects there will be 9 others getting along with no issues that aren't posting about that.

I have had two instances of upset stomach issues, once after moving up to 5mg and again on 7.5mg. Annoying at the time, but not long lasting. Then I have not had anything like that for about 7 months now. I am cold, but I don't mind it, it's actually pleasant in the warmer weather which I greatly enjoy. I have not had any issues with sleep, my sleep is actually better.

I had about 12 stone to lose when I started, so side effects would have had to have been very severe for me to stop using Mounjaro. Losing weight was more important than anything temporarily unpleasant.

Pyjamatimenow · 14/05/2025 11:45

I tried ozempic in 2023 and it gave me unmanageable diarrhoea so I was nervous to try mounjaro last year. I started in May and had no side effects until November time when I went to 15mg, even then it was a churning stomach and diarrhoea so dropped back down. I’m on 10mg and been maintaining a bmi of 20.5 since Christmas.

Mumconnect · 14/05/2025 11:50

I told myself I'd just do a week or a month and see how I get on. I read posts about people fainting and pooing the bed and I was really worried.

I wish I'd started sooner. Being on mounjaro makes me feel normal. I had terrible insulin resistance before.

My only side effects were week 2 where I wasn't hungry, and felt a bit of reflux. I've been fine ever since. I've not thrown up, I've not pooed the bed.

AmateurNoun · 14/05/2025 12:00

I started on 2.5 8 weeks ago and have stayed on it with no side effects. I am down about 1 stone 4 (bigger initial loss and then 1-2lb/week since then).

If you are really worried you could just give yourself a smaller initial dose to see how you react. You need to click the pen 60 times to get the right dose but you could just click it 30 times to get a half dose.

PinkArt · 14/05/2025 12:03

There's no way of knowing what anyone's side effects might be, but for me it's massively improved my IBS. I had explosive diarrhoea in the first two weeks of taking it and worried it was going to make things worse, but since then everything has completely calmed down. It's such a relief to not have to plan everything in my life around where the nearest toilet is.

Yes I qualify for MJ. Thanks for posting. What were your side effects, if you don’t mind me asking?

In the first week I felt like I had a virus, but this soon passed. I responded to the drug quickly, appetite suppressed within about an hour of the first jab.

I feel cold, but this is nothing new, just colder than usual.

From about months 2 to 7, I had an injection site reaction. This was the worst side effect for me while it lasted.

I am prone to sickness usually (motion, pregnancy, some medications) but have not had any nausea or vomiting.

I am prone to diarrhoea as I have bowel disease, but have only had about 6 single episodes, probably linked with eating spicy food.

I've had constipation twice.

I generally eat and drink what I like (including alcohol), just in far smaller quantities than before.

I am still on 10mg and don't anticipate going any higher as within about 8lb of goal.

Good luck in your decision and health improvement journey.

idrinkandiknowthings · 14/05/2025 14:09

I've suffered nausea, vomiting, one bout of the trots and frequent acid reflux, but most of the time I feel fine. Great, in fact, for losing 2st 4lbs on MJ since mid-February.

I have a friend who started it after me and she's up to 7.5mg and hasn't had a single side effect. Bitch lol

Bigfatsunandclouds · 14/05/2025 14:16

I initially felt slightly cold on jab day, a little tired but I've been sleeping like a log and maybe a tiny bit nauseous but otherwise SE free and honestly I couldn't recommend them enough!!
