Summer holidays - possibly over 30 degrees

Just wondering if anyone has experience of taking their pen away with them when they're expecting it to be very hot? We're going away in the summer for 10 days and I'll need to take my pen. First night is in an airport travelodge which will mean no fridge which is the first hurdle - by the time we get to our hotel abroad it'll have been out of the fridge for over 24 hours which I know is fine if it's already been used but only if keeping it below 30 degrees. I'm worried that going away in August to somewhere expected to be very warm means it might exceed 30 degrees (worried about this anyway to be honest, not just about MJ 😅).
Does anyone have any experience of this or tips?
Also, has anyone ever travelled with the needles in their hand luggage? I'm a bit wary about putting then in our luggage in case that gets lost (unlikely I know) but don't know if trying to take them as hand luggage will create issues?
Thanks

You definitely need to put it in your hand luggage as it may freeze in the hold. As long as your room has air con I don't think it will be a problem? How long are you going for?

Diabetics have been travelling with these sorts of pens for years so there should be allowances for the needles, especially since they're sheathed and tiny. From what I've read, keep the pen in its packaging so that your name and precription details are still attached. Have it in a separate clear plastic bag with the needles. Asda has a guide here which suggests a coolbag if you're worried about temp.

As @Caddycat says, as long as your room is airconditioned you should be ok. The UK Travelodge is unlikely to go above 30deg even if it doesn't have aircon, although they usually do.

Thanks everyone for your replies - I was imagining the ice packs of an insulated case melting before we arrive because of the extra might at the start in the travelodge and thinking about the time between plane and getting into our room and how hot that could be. But guess I'll just have to hope it isn't too hot and will definitely look at pen cases, thank you.

Thanks - I only meant I wondered about putting the needles in my luggage, will definitely keep the pen on me 😀
We're away for 10 days but I'm fairly sure we have a little fridge in the room so should be fine, am thinking more about the travel from home to the actual hotel room as ice packs etc will likely have melted during the additional night in the airport hotel. Sure it'll be fine and will read the link to the Asda advice. Thanks 😊

You could try going without, if you think you can? I stopped recently for 2 weeks, I did have an increase in my food noise towards the end but I was pleasantly surprised by how little it was. I went straight back to my normal dose and I didn’t have any fresh side effects (mine all stopped after a couple of months). Although I’ve never gone above 5mg, so I think that’s easier to stop and start on. I can’t remember what the advice is if you’re on a higher dose but I think up to 2 weeks is fine to go back to your regular level?

Thanks but I think I'm pretty sure that I want to keep taking as normal. I'm currently on 7.5mg but obviously may have gone up by summer.

@UsernameShmusername2024 Yes of course! The online diabetic shops and pharmacies have quite a few options for cases (I personally don’t like buying anything like that from Amazon etc). There’s one case called the Nomad, the small Nomad keeps the case temperate under 26 degrees for 48 hours, in 30 degree (external) temperatures, which might work for you.

Thank you! Will check the nomad case out 😃

Get a Frio wallet. Activated by cold water and keeps your pen cold around 48 hours before you need to soak it again. Took mine around Indonesia with one and it worked perfectly!!

That frio wallet looks awesome. Thanks @IReallyNeedThisToWork you have solved my holiday issue too.
