Mounjaro rash

Hi

I started Mounjaro 2 weeks ago and felt well on it until after my third jab yesterday, after which I came out in itchy hives over arms and legs. The chemist gave me antihistamines and when I took one the hives started to disappear but have come back since the anti hist wore off. Am so disappointed as have been trying to lose weight for 20+ years and this is first thing that seems to work. Anyone else had similar issues? Thanks

Well, I wouldn’t let a spot of hives put you off too much! Side effects on this medication come and they go. Just take anti histamines over the week and see how it pans out

unless it’s totally horrendous, just keep going. You’re only a fortnight in so your body just needs time to settle and adapt

I took mounjaro for few months last year to lose majority of my weight then took a break. I had zero side effects

started back on it last week to shift last couple of stone and ive also got the rash! I’m due second jab today do didn’t think it was mounjaro causing it as it’s after 7 days and can’t be much left in my system but did get a rash on Thursday ( day 5)

a anti h does make it go but never experienced this before. I thought the trigger was the sun but now I’m wondering….

I got a blotchy, itchy rash after my very first MJ jab, mainly on my torso and arms. It faded within a few days and I haven't had the same reaction since (now on third pen).

Yep. I’ve been on MJ for 8 months. Had 3 x rashes / hives so far, usually shortly after going up a dose.

Rash 1 - on arms, the worst. Very red, itchy, swollen. Took a few weeks to go.

Rash 2 - 2 months later on legs. Pretty mild.

Rash 3 - current - on belly area. Hope it goes soon.

It’s a bit of a drag. I also think it makes me extra tired - maybe my body fighting the “mild” allergic reaction.

I stopped taking Mounjaro after getting the bad rash all over. I ordered Mounjaro through my local chemist who was horrified when she saw the rash. I still had the spots (though less itchy) 6 weeks after I stopped it and saw my GP who said it was hives and there was a lot of histamine still in my system. I think the rash has now finally gone. My GP thinks it is likely something in the preservative in the jab that I am allergic to and not the drug itself. She suggested I could try Wegovy as it might be ok.

how has the move to wegovy gone? Did the rash go?

AineEdin · 30/09/2025 23:38

I still have the rash a tiny bit but it is mostly gone. I never did follow up on Wegovy. Apparently there is benzyl alcohol in the Mounjaro jab as a preservative which isn't used in Wegovy. I still may try Wegovy.
