@HeavyHeidi I did the Iron programme last year, and a bit of beast mode but lost my mojo a little and have just been doing what I need to since. Caroline is tiny and so strong.

@tinyemmy I am, by no means, an athlete 🤣 I have been lifting for a few years though, which might have built some muscle up. I'd like to get a little past the bottom line into average and then I'll feel like I've achieved.

Sounds great, I will have a look. I've been lifting on and off for a few years, but I guess it's the off that's the problem. I've been plagued with injuries - I had to have my rotator cuff repaired. I've also struggled with my knee, hi and calf. I'm determined to keep going though!!

sociallydistained · 10/05/2025 20:34

I've been awol for ages guys. After smashing about 5 bags of crisps this evening I came looking for support 🙈😂

I just did the 5th dose of my first 7.5 pen and I did about 8.5/9mg for the dose but alas, today I be hungry for some reason.

Lost a 1lb this week so down a total of 2 stone 8lb so I can't moan but not sure why I just wanted to eat this evening!

mince3point14159265 · 10/05/2025 20:46

We're here for you @sociallydistained ! I'm presuming they were individual bags of crisps? They're all air nowadays thanks to shrinkflation so you've probably only had 1.5 bags in old money! 😜

Thelittlestranger · 10/05/2025 21:55

What @mince3point14159265 said. Bags of crisps are nothing nowadays. Dust yourself off - tomorrow is a new day @sociallydistained What made you eat them? Boredom?

@tinyemmy I had problems with my rotator cuff, thankfully it wasn't so bad that it needed to be repaired and I worked really hard to strengthen all round my shoulders to avoid it again. Very painful for you, and probably took ages to recover?

OP posts:
Zempy · 11/05/2025 06:41

@sociallydistained It really is OK. I agree with the lads, it’s not helpful to beat yourself up over it. Have a kindly word with yourself about why you did it. Were you angry, sad, jealous, frustrated, tired? Were you drinking alcohol? It’s nothing to recover from in terms of the calories, it’s what lies behind it that’s often the tricky bit. 💐

DGonMJ · 11/05/2025 09:06

Week 19 Day 1 - jabbed 5.6mg just to finish what was left in the pen. Start another 5mg pen next week, also have my maintenance call with Oushk in a couple of weeks.

SW 79.6kg
CW 62.9kg BMI 23.1
GW 62.4kg

Official WI today is higher than yesterday so only a 0.3kg loss this week, but I’ve upped calories and also trained quite hard so think I’ll switch to only weighing on my Renpho once I hit goal on the Juniper scales (tracks a nicer graph than Renpho). That way I can see if muscle is replacing fat, and be less fixated on number on the scale going down.

NSV - I can now do a full push up off the floor. Can’t do 9 reps yet, but after years of practising on a bench I’m light enough to push myself up and down!

tinyemmy · 11/05/2025 09:39

@Thelittlestranger Yes rotator cuff is a year's recovery!
It's pretty good now, not perfect but I can do push ups and most things I need to do.

@DGonMJ I struggle with how often to weigh. I find that I weigh myself every day on a losing journey but avoid the scales if I know I've put on. Scales are up 0.4lbs on yesterday but down a pound still so far this week. Official weigh in is on Wednesday and just 2.4lbs to my goal.

DareDevil223 · 11/05/2025 11:11

0.8 lb off this week, 4.2lbs to go to goal. It's slow going now but I feel so grateful just to be in this position and I'm a weight that I haven't ben since I was in my 20s.

I originally chose 11st as my goal weight because it was always my sticking point but with the help of MJ I have got through that, being 10st something just feels like a dream.

I had a good gym session today and off out to a nice pub for lunch soon. It's a lovely day here and I don't feel cold for a change. Good times.

HeavyHeidi · 11/05/2025 11:28

congratulations on all the wins, scale or otherwise!

I had a good weights session this morning as well, I just love how I can see the muscle definition appearing. And yes pushups are so much easier!

HeavyHeidi · 11/05/2025 11:32

I've been fluctuating between 62-63 kilos for a couple of weeks now. 62 has always been my sticky point, so I really really want to see 61 on that scale.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 11/05/2025 11:55

I’ve just completed week 1 of couch to 5k. So hard especially in this heat! But I’m proud of myself for doing it. Week 2 starts Tuesday - I hope I can keep going!

Polkadotdash · 11/05/2025 12:18

Just on the vanity sizing - I have a pair of size 14 Fat Face jeans that I can no longer keep up. There is absolutely no way I’m too small for a 14. And I bought a new pair of trousers yesterday that were a next 14. They only just fitted but they are clearly oversized. With the size of my distended uterus being the equivalent of 4 months pregnant, a size 14 is impossible!

2025istheyeari · 11/05/2025 14:20

Well done everyone, can’t believe how many are so close to goal, it’s amazing!!!!

I agree on the crisps, don’t beat yourself up, we all have those days, that’s life right and it’s about how you pick yourself up. Agree with Zempy though, maybe try to identify why you did it, what was the trigger, or maybe there isn’t one and you just really fancied the crisps, and that’s ok!!

well done @MummyInTheNecropolis that’s a fab achievement 🎉.

It’s been such a gorgeous weekend hasn’t it! I’ve been open water swimming twice, out for some nice walks and spent the most of it gardening- I flipping hate gardening! But I have a sense of achievement and some aching muscles now that the seemingly endless weeds have gone, so I’ll take that as win!!

For a weights beginner, which programme of Caroline Girvans would you experts recommend please? I’ve got 2 3kg hand weights, will they be ok to start with?

thanks and enjoy the rest of your Sundays.

MananaPenelope · 11/05/2025 14:23

Home from my weekend of work stuff. I’ve been ok food wise. I tried on the higher power Spanx 🚫, not for me, I couldn’t stand to be that restricted, also thought I might self combust 🔥 in a hot flush. So I’m returning them.

I’m actually going to have a glass of fizz and some posh truffles someone gave me - stressed, hot and exhausted here.

Today can be a bit of a day off. In reality I don’t expect to eat 1000 cals every day of my life, today is one of them.

HeavyHeidi · 11/05/2025 14:43

@2025istheyeari someone created a nice table here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarolineGirvan/comments/w9lzd9/i_created_an_airtable_of_all_of_caroline_girvans/?rdt=43724

BlueLimes · 11/05/2025 20:49

Hope everyone had a lovely sunny weekend.

Has anyone else found their resting heart rate has increased since starting the jabs?

Also, I’d love to hear people’s gym routines. I currently do 15 min cross trainer, 10 rowing, 15 running. Then 5-10 mins weights(think I need to increase this??).

HeavyHeidi · 11/05/2025 20:58

It did initially @BlueLimes , just checked my garmin - was 51 the week before jabs, then went to 57 the couple of first weeks, but back to 52 now. So not a massive increase. I also probably need to get my thyroid medication dose adjusted, have a doc appointment tomorrow - if I'm overmedicated then that will increase the heart rate.

As for exercise, I like to mix mine up. Yesterday did a glutes and hamstrings session, about 40 min, plus a little run. This morning weights at gym, 50 minutes. Tomorrow will see, arms maybe, or a HIIT session if I feel like it. Tuesday have a bodypump class.
But yes I would do more than 10 min weights if possible.

Mine has - I've usually got a really low resting heart rate of 49 -50. Ever since starting MJ it's gone up to 53-54. Still not high, but high for me. I only know this because of my Garmin watch FYI - not because I'm testing it all the time 🤣

You do more cardio than me. If I go to the gym, I spend the whole time on weights. I've just started introducing a run every week, if you can call it that. It is slooowwwww.

BlueLimes · 11/05/2025 21:42

@Thelittlestranger @HeavyHeidi I am going to book a PT session, hopefully can get a better weight regime as I’m a bit clueless. I’m a slow runner too!

is it better to mix up exercise more SlimHeudi?

My heart rate has gone up about 10 bears- in the 70s now. I don’t think I need to do anything, I feel so much healthier overall, I’ll ask one of the team to check my BP tomorrow.

HeavyHeidi · 11/05/2025 21:51

I'm by no means a professional here. You would want to have both weights and cardio - more weights for 'women of certain age', as they say 😁
And for muscles, you want to overload them - either by increasing the weight itself, or intensity.
This can be achieved by various means, but if you want to target all major muscle groups then 10 minutes is not quite enough. For basic weights routine, you would want to have 3 things. Pull, push and legs - this article will explain. www.aston.ac.uk/sport/news/tips/fitness-exercise/push-pull-legs

BlueLimes · 11/05/2025 21:57

Thanks so much, I’ll read on my way to work tomorrow.
I am that certain age 😬

Pandora71 · 11/05/2025 21:57

Checking in and saying hi.
@BlueLimes my weekly exercise routine

Monday: run 5k
Tuesday: cycle commute (10-15k)
Wednesday: cycle commute then strength session at home, focusing on arms - press ups (incline), dips, military press, and core - planks, toe taps etc
Thursday: cycle commute
Friday: PT session - squats, deadlifts, etc
Saturday: run 5k
Sunday: rest or yoga

Exercise was never my problem! It was all food!

HeavyHeidi · 11/05/2025 21:59

Tsk @Pandora71 but haven't you heard, all we had to do was to take our lazy arses for a short walk and we wouldn't even need to cheat with jabs..
