Does the diarrhoea wear off?

On week 4 of Mounjaro 2.5mg.
For the first 3 weeks I was quite constipated.
After the last dose 4 days ago, I’ve had non stop diarrhoea since Monday. Imodium is helping but hasn’t stopped it.
on the upside I have lost 6kg.
Have my 5mg pen but think I’d better stick with 2.5mg.

Has everyone found that it wears off? Has anyone had to stop it or take a break?

Everyone’s different but I found side effects subsided after a few days and then got used to the medication. Personally I’d stick with it. Make sure you drink lots of water.

Well done with 6kg!

Wow, nearly 1 stone in a month. That's fantastic!
I'm only on W2 and a bit irregular but when I do go, wow! Sorry TMI.
I think the benefit of a 5 dose is that you can tweak it and just take 2.5. There's a YT video which explains how to do it.
You can only try.

Thanks both. Been sat up all night with terrible trapped wind, belching. The diarrhoea continues. My guts are gurgling non stop. It’s made me very nervous indeed about continuing, feel dreadful. So weird as the first few weeks were fine other than mildly constipated. Might take a couple of weeks off and reassess. I feel like it’s reset how I think about food, so that’s good at least.

My friend had this problem. Try pepto bismol. It tastes vile but works wonders

I had this. It was sooooo painful. All night acid pain and weird big burps from my boots. It lasted about 20 hours. I took omeprazole, gaviscon and Rennies.

Not had it again - thinking it was because I ate too much and didn't drink enough. I now drink 3l a day.

Start taking a daily probiotic. It makes an incredible difference. I had a lot of gastric side effects for my first few months but have not had a single one since I started taking the probiotic.

Mounjaroday · 08/05/2025 08:52

V good advice from PPs to take something for it and hope you start feeling better soon OP. Stick with it!

15 weeks in, I’m 3 stone down and can honestly say any side effects I’ve experienced are nothing in comparison to the improvements losing weight has made to my life.

Good luck OP!

Thanks everyone. Day 5 of the last injection and the diarrhoea is still frequent and explosive. Thought I was going to faint on the loo. Having to sit propped up in bed as whole GI tract rumbling and gurgling, also have reflux. Imodium not helping much. I’ll get some probiotics. Think I might have to abandon as it’s worrying and I also can’t keep taking time off work. Really annoying as was ok the first 3 jabs.

You poor thing! Maybe ask your provider why they think xx

loopylou459 · 24/06/2025 11:50

@Icebreakhell hi just wondered what you did in the end?

I'm in exactly the same position as you - 3 weeks was fine with no side effects. Took 4th jab and all the same symptoms as you. Non stop diarrhoea - up more or less all night last night and feel awful. Taken day off sick and just taken some Imodium. Thinking I'm going to have stop MJ as this is too much - can't be up all night and having to take days off work.

Can I ask what probiotic you take?

Leo800 · 24/06/2025 12:26

You need to stop! Listen to your body. No wonder you’ve lost weight with constant diarrhoea 🙄

flatonmyback · 24/06/2025 12:29

I stopped after 12 months as I couldn’t cope anymore with the diarrhoea. I didn’t dare leave the house.

Id rather be fat.

lovemycbf · 24/06/2025 14:50

Everyone is different I went from 2.5mg to 5mg and was so horrifically unwell for 8 days I ended up in hospital and had 3 potassium,1 magnesium and 1 rehydration drips.
i am going to try again as have left it quite while

I left it 10 days until all side effects settled, then restarted. I think it was triggered by fatty food.

I’m on 3.75mg now and touch wood, it hasn’t happened again. I’m quite sensitive to the drug and still losing 1kg a week so am sticking at 3.75. Lost 14kg in total so far.

Oh glad it worked out well for you. I've decided to call it a day as I just feel too awful.

Sorry to hear that. It’s not an easy drug for everyone.
