Hi, I’m new to Mumsnet and joined initially to ask for others experiences using Mounjaro Injections.
So far I’ve lost 24lbs, I had a starting weight of 15st9lbs. I’ve been on Mounjaro for 4 months , I’m on the 7.5mg dose for the second consecutive month and I’m just not liking the side effects, vomitimg, nausea and constipation. I was fine on 5mg. Has anyone just stuck with 5mg and lost with that dose?

Many people have, yes.

What made you move up to 7.5mg if 5mg was working well for you? Have you thought to discuss it with your prescriber?

You should try looking at the thread for your starting month, as there will likely be many having the same thoughts at the same stage.

blackballfinal · 04/05/2025 11:44

I have stuck with 2.5mg for 6 months, lost over 4 stone so far. I haven’t had any side effects but I also don’t have full suppression, I like to know when I’m hungry and not struggle to eat.

Thanks for your reply, all that you’ve said makes perfect sense
Checked in with my doctor to discuss and advice was to not go on higher dose.
Although I’m not being prescribed through my doctor’s, I buy online,
but wanted a professionals opinion and she did say she hadn’t much awareness of the drug

I did 20 weeks on 5mg. Loved it!! Only went up because of the return of the dreaded food noise.

If a dose is working for you, stick with it!

That’s an epic weight loss! That’s a valid point about not completely suppressing your appetite, I think 5mg is going to probs be the way forward for me

I find on the 7.5mg the food noise returns on the fourth day and is shocking by the 6th, but I can’t go up yet because of the nausea etc.

I'm doing my second month on 2.5mg as it's working really well for me with no side effects. I have so much suppression I'm struggling to eat, so I'm going to stay on 2.5mg as long as it's working for me. I've a stone gone in a month, which I'm happy with.

It's really interesting how different people react in different ways to tbis drug. I think it's all about finding what dosage works for you, and balancing how much you can cope with in terms of side effects with the reduction in food noise you're getting. I'm a bit terrified of moving up to 5mg, tbh, but I'll see how the next few weeks go.

Can you use the clicks of your pen to go back down to 5mg for a bit to see if it helps? I'm not sure how to do that but there's info all over the place online.

I’m starting to realise that maybe I should have stayed on lower doses longer especially as they were working. That’s so good to hear that you e successfully lost weight by sticking to 2.5mg
Yes ive read online about counting the clicks on the pen…thats a good call :)

I'm taking 1.6mg every 5 days which means I'm on a dose somewhere between 3 and 4mg. It's working fabulously for me and I've no intention of changing. I plan to be off by the end of August at the latest.

Imgoingoutforawhile · 04/05/2025 16:46

I did 3 months on 2.5 and then 4 months of 5mg. I’ve lost 3 stone and happy with my progress. I was quite nauseous for the first 2 months of 5mg so I’m not going to move up unless I find it stops working. I have 1 stone left to lose ideally

AmythestBangle · 04/05/2025 16:47

I've never gone higher than 5mg and I've lost 2 stone in 4 months.

Marylou2 · 04/05/2025 17:58

I took my first 5mg on Friday and can hardly eat. Did 8 weeks on 2.5 and then 4 on 3.75 by counting 45 clicks of a 5mg pen. I think I shouldn't have moved up and definitely going back to 3.75 next week. I wanted to be on a proper dose but the jump up seems too much. Anyone else noticed this?

WeAllHaveWings · 04/05/2025 18:07

On my 46th week, I am taking 3.75mg, and consistently lose most weeks.

I am planning on sticking to the lowest dose possible which keeps the food noise at bay and helps me stick to my calorie deficit. The effects come and go which is ok as I can cope with that short term, I will only move up doses if I have 2-3 weeks where the effects are consistently gone and I struggle to keep to calorie deficit.

That's good to know. I think I'd prefer to do this too. I was losing well and only tried 5mg as I'd got a new pen. Wish I hadn't now. Back to 3.75 next week for sure!

3.75mg has been a perfect sweet spot for me - I don't want suppression, but it keeps away the food noise, obsessive cravings and helps me stick to my calorie deficit and smaller portions. You will get 5 x 3.75mg (45 click) doses out of your 5mg pen on days 0,7,14,21,28 so also within the 30 day discard rule, before the pen locks.
