@Blondeshavemorefun are you drinking enough water? That can make a difference too.

@Azuresky68 my bmi is hovering around 25.3. I think 23 is the sweet spot for my build, and I've got pictures of me at a bmi of 20 when I'd been really ill and lost a stone in a week (don't recommend the backpacking in India weightloss plan) and I didn't look good that size. Maybe try and see this as a transition period? Testing out what works and what you need to do to stay at a weight that makes you feel good and is sustainable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2025 09:17

@Timetochange24 yes. I always drink water and tbh as been hot in blondesland I’ve drank prob Even more as been sunbathing in garden and surpling

my NSV yesterday of side pic and dress was yah. And today nay

Weepixie · 02/05/2025 09:20

Good morning everyone. Weighed in at 9 stone despite fasting yesterday since 1 pm

Azuresky68, you sound very frustrated but don’t give much if any thought to your day of fasting yesterday as it really wouldn’t have done anything helpful to your numbers. In fact it may have even caused a temporary gain or sts on the scales due to fluid retention.

Also, the traditional method of calculating our BMI has its well deserved share of critics and I refuse point blank to give it any thought as I know how I would look even at the upper end of the suggested weight range for my height. So I use this method of BMI instead as it’s calculated on more variables than the WHO one and in my mind it’s way more realistic.

I read your posts and my thoughts always are that your not getting to the bmi/weight you are led to believe you should be/want to be because that’s not where you’re meant to be and you’re body is telling you that.

Do you need a big jobby @Blondeshavemorefun? My last few pounds were up and down like Alton Towers roller coasters!.
I've put on 5 pounds since last week haha, bloody bread, pizza and DH being here the dick.
I know its not real fat but it's definitely belly bloat with the choices of food.

weaselyeyes · 02/05/2025 11:26

BMI is a good general guideline @Azuresky68 but it's a population measure. You shouldn't see it as an absolute precipice where you're healthy/normal one side of the line and instantly unhealthy/overweight the other. If you feel fine at your current weight then stay there.

But when you say you fear it will always be like this in terms of having to watch what you eat, putting it on easily etc - well, I don't want to sound doom-laden, but it could be. I think that's what it will be like for me, to be honest. There's people like @owlyboo who weren't overweight most of their lives and have now lost the extra weight (and are younger) and I think it'll be easier for her to stay stable. Then there's people like me, who have had lots of periods of being overweight throughout life, lots of yoyo dieting and an unhealthy relationship to food. I think it will be much harder for me to stay stable and I would regain weight more easily. So it's been hard for everyone to lose the weight, but it might be a bit harder for some than others to keep it off. But hey, we can all buck trends!

That said, would you rather go back to the alternative of being really overweight? I know I wouldn't. I do mourn not being 'normal' about food/weight, but it's just where life has taken me and I have to accept it. I think you've done so well to build a happy, healthy life for yourself, you should feel proud and focus on seeing it as an amazing achievement that you're dedicated to maintaining. If someone had said to you a few years ago that you could have a lovely partner, travel multiple times a year, and be a size 8/10, but you'd have to be careful about what you ate from now on to keep your weight in a reasonable range, I'd bet you'd have given anything for that opportunity. What you're trying to do now is such a tiny thing compared to everything you've already accomplished.

WorriedRelative · 02/05/2025 11:41

This week hasn't been great weight wise, a bit up and down within the same kilo. It will pick up again soon.

Suppression is really strong at the moment so have ordered another 10mg rather than going up. I really struggled yesterday, went for a family meal and despite only having a small lunch (no breakfast) before I was stuffed after the starter!

Still feeling full now!

On the NSV side the BIL noticed my weight loss and complimented it. He's very overweight and I think MJ would change his life but not sure what reaction I would get.

It is nice that people are noticing but also quite uncomfortable.

Starting to need to replace more clothes now too which is both good and bad! Great to see the difference but expensive and frustrating when things you love no linger fit!

Weepixie · 02/05/2025 11:54

But when you say you fear it will always be like this in terms of having to watch what you eat, putting it on easily etc - well, I don't want to sound doom-laden, but it could be. I think that's what it will be like for me, to be honest

I had wanted to say in my last post that watching what ‘we’ eat is the norm for people who are slim and are wrongly thought to not have issues with their weight. In fact some of the best things I’ve read about how to hopefully maintain my eventual target weight loss is to read what slim people have to say about how they stay slim - they have to work at it. Granted there must be slim people who think they’ve never had to work at being slim but I suspect the majority of them are so disciplined regarding their eating they don’t actually realise they’re working at it.

weaselyeyes · 02/05/2025 12:20

Agreed @Weepixie. However, I think there aren't many slim people who have to deal with this on the same level as people who are overweight - hence why they're so keen to say eat less, move more without realising all that entails for someone who's had long term issues and the physiological changes that obesity brings. But I do think most slim people don't just eat what the hell they like all the time. I don't think it's that they're so disciplined, though - I think it's just easier and requires less stress and willpower because they're not experiencing the same level of food noise and hunger that most of us have known. That's why MJ has been so revolutionary for lots of us.

I do hope that when/if I eventually stop MJ, I won't just be back to square one as I'll hopefully have maintained a much lower weight for a while, and I think that will be really helpful. But even in my most optimistic scenarios I'm anticipating I'll fluctuate and have to work at maintaining.

Anyway, a pleasing 2lb off for me this week - rare these days, as I crawl a little lower on the scale. I'd like to be about 8lb lighter to give myself a margin, but anything from now on is a bonus. I'm really trying to reframe this period as pretty much what maintaining will look like to try to stop myself from bouncing back to thinking I can be too relaxed if I reach goal!

Commiserations to @Blondeshavemorefun on sts, but I think it's inevitable at this point that the losses are slower, I've certainly found that to be the case. Just keep plodding on and try not to feel too despondent, you'll get there.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2025 13:42

@NippyNinjaCrab indeed I must need to do a 7lb poo baby

wow at 5lbs. But sounds like it’s not a true gain and sure will be back off next Fri

but pizza and bread do seem to react with you

wise words from the @weaselyeyes. I think I will also be in that camp of always having to watch. Age doesn’t help over 50 as well

@Azuresky68 thinking of you today. I hope your oh has been supportive of op and hopefully said those 3 words

have you decided what to do ?

@WorriedRelative notnsure if you have gained or lost the same lb but lovely bil complimented you

does he know you are on mj ?

@Weepixie I have several slim by nature friends. Hate them lol. Eat anything and still a size 10 and slim

well done for 2 lbs off @WorriedRelative and last week was a sts as well for me so I had better have a whoosh next week

Oh how I love this group. Sorry about STS @Blondeshavemorefun But looking at how far we have come, aren't we just amazing! We must celebrate the fact we found eachother and literally stuck together through thick and thin! And trusted eachother enough to share about other parts of our lives xx

Azuresky68 · 02/05/2025 14:06

My worries are over..Thanks for well wishes ❤️ I got the all clear 👍

Azuresky68 · 02/05/2025 14:08

@Blondeshavemorefun yes he has been very supportive thanks. I will give an update on those 3 little words and what I decided next week as I am a bit drained right now and have visitors over weekend. As always love and best wishes to all xx

WorriedRelative · 02/05/2025 14:21

@BlondeshavemorefunI weigh daily, over the last week I have bounced up and down between 80.3 and 80.8, my all time lowest weight is just over a week ago at 80. I know it is just normal fluctuations and water/poo/weather/exercise/hormones can make a massive difference so I'm not too disheartened. Always the case that those psychological boosts of a new bracket take longer to arrive!

BIL doesn't know I am using MJ, I am a secret jabber! Nice of him to comment though.

WorriedRelative · 02/05/2025 14:22

Wonderful!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2025 14:39

@Azuresky68 so glad all went well and have the all clear

@WorriedRelative. Same. As few people mentioned it even before I was on it and they obv disagreed with other people using it

hence why I’ve said not a word

just counting cals - eh is is tech true

when I read threads about mj so many think it’s a quick cure and lbs melt off having to do nothing

yes I’m lucky to not have side effects and be on top dose but the last few weeks have shown me that it doesn’t just come off even if being good

OP posts:
20bloodypounds · 02/05/2025 14:39

my dsis is very slim (sometimes too thin) but she has a serious nut allergy. It means she never snacks on unhealthy food, won't eat at a buffet (except something like a banana), never grabs a chocolate bar when she stops for petrol, no cakes (except rare home-made) and if she's at a restaurant never has a pudding. I find on MJ that it's easier for me to model her eating patterns - I don't have snacks and I'm not craving cake and chocolate. But I'm glad I don't have her allergy.

owlyboo · 02/05/2025 14:44

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefunsorry you’ve STS! How frustrating!! Sounds like you’re doing all the right things already!!

thats the thing isn’t it. When I maintained my weight well before Covid/divorce from the outside a bigger person would probably have thought ‘oh you’re so lucky to be slim’ however I did have to work bloody hard to be slim. Regular gym workouts and watching what I ate. Yes I had treats like takeaways etc. but it was all in moderation. I think some people definitely have more food noise (or however you want to phrase it) I’m quite lucky as I don’t think I really have that.

i completely agree that ‘worrying about maintaining’ is healthy. It means you’re determined to do it this time. The main thing for me is regular weighing. That way you see if there’s any gain quickly and rectify it before it becomes a problem. The old slippery slope!!

I also think it easier for me as I’m on my own. So there’s no husband/partner tempting me with a takeaway etc!

well done on the loss @weaselyeyes!!

owlyboo · 02/05/2025 14:46

Sorry missed a load of posts that didn’t load before I sent! So glad you got the all clear @Azuresky68

weaselyeyes · 02/05/2025 15:13

Yes, excellent news @Azuresky68!

Weepixie · 02/05/2025 16:35

when I read threads about mj so many think it’s a quick cure and lbs melt off having to do nothing

Last week following a question from a relative about my weight loss that was said in a way I didn’t actually like but even now I couldn’t describe how it came across I waited till I was in the car with her for an hour and told her all about WLI.

At one stage I said it’s not a magic bullet, people dont go to bed and melt into a pool of fat, and I just knew that all she wanted right then was any kind of bullet to shut me up with🤣🤣

I wasn’t angry with her and I knew she wasn’t being demeaning because we’re very close but it was the very first time I’d encountered the question in such a way and I just had to answer it properly.

weaselyeyes · 02/05/2025 17:09

It's funny, the attitudes people have to WLIs. When I first started hearing more about them, probably a couple of years ago, my first response was that oh, that sounds like a bad idea. I was interested enough to look up the cost with Voy, who seemed to be one of the few places doing it at the time, and was pretty horrified, but I still thought I 'wouldn't be someone who took weight loss jabs'.

I honestly don't really know why I thought this! I suppose I thought it was all people who were a stone overweight trying to get skinny, assumed it would be really unhealthy and risky, and mentally thought of it in the same category as having huge filler-lips. I definitely had a sort of uninformed snobbery about it. Then I started reading about people using it on here and got over myself! Within about two days of reading threads, I ordered.

When I ordered, I partly assumed that it wouldn't work - and then I'd have to face up to the fact that I was too far gone for even this approach that I was slightly looking down on. But I think I was also a bit scared that if it did work, then I might feel weird about this life-defining struggle, that I'd spent so many years wrestling with and analysing. just being 'solved'. And I do feel a bit like that. On the one hand I feel vindicated, that I wasn't just being pathetic, there was something wrong that could be fixed by medication. But I do also feel odd and disconcerted by it, even though I'd tell anyone else not to be! So I guess people feel those same ill-informed, ill-thought through opinions I had before I found out more, but I can't be bothered to be the one to educate them, so I just keep quiet.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2025 17:16

One of the threads @weaselyeyes was a lady saying she can’t shift the last 1/2s to take her to a 10 I think from a 12

that it’s unfair that people can use them with a high bmi but not her who is struggling
