Feeling really low – looking for advice and shared experiences

Hi everyone,

I’m feeling quite down and would really appreciate any advice or if anyone can share similar experiences.

I took my fourth 2.5 dose of Mj on Wednesday night. Up until then, I’d had some manageable side effects — nothing too alarming.
But then, on Friday morning, I had a very explosive bowel movement. Not hugely unusual for me even before starting Mj, but throughout Friday things just got worse. By the evening, I was constantly running to the loo, passing what was basically foul-smelling water, along with lots of stomach noises and the occasional sulphur burp. It continued right through Friday night into Saturday morning.

By Saturday afternoon, I started feeling a bit better, so I carefully ate a small amount of food after nearly 30 hours without. But this morning (Sunday) I’ve woken up and it’s all started again — just as bad.

I’ve been using loperamide (Imodium) since Friday afternoon (2 initially, then 1 after each episode, up to the max dose), but it hasn’t helped at all. I’ve also been taking psyllium husk and probiotics since Friday, again with no real improvement.

I’m feeling so disheartened — has anyone else been through this?
Does it eventually settle?
I really don’t understand why this has happened out of nowhere. Mj has been helping me so much already, and I’m so scared of having to stop.

To make things worse, all my friends who are further ahead with Mj have had no side effects whatsoever, which just makes me feel even more alone in this!

For reference, here’s what I’ve been eating (I’ve been working on trying to get enough calories, fibre, and protein in, I’m struggling with that):

  • Thursday: Vegan yoghurt drink; poached salmon, asparagus, samphire and French potato salad (no mayo, just vinegar and herbs)
  • Friday: A dairy-free protein shake (which I’ve had before with no problems) and a ham sandwich with lettuce
  • Saturday: A banana; plain porridge made with soy milk, soy protein powder, flax, chia, hemp seeds, a few berries, and a couple of reduced sugar Rich Tea biscuits to take my meds

If anyone has any advice, reassurance, or tips, I’d be super grateful. Thank you.

I think it’s unusual to be like that on 2.5 mg. I went up to 15mg before having those symptoms. It may be that you’re very sensitive to it. Might not be for you

In terms of why it's happening now, the amount of medication in your system a couple of days after your 4th injection will be the highest it's been in your system to date.

I had something similar on 5mg, after my second dose. It did settle and I've been fine since. Have you got any dioralyte or similar that you could take? I would also stick to really simple food, so banana, plain toast, just until it settles completely.

@SilenceInside Thank you. Yes I took some dehydration salts yesterday, and about to do the same today. V comforting it settled and then was fine for you after a bit!

Gosh you need to eat more, that’s hardly anything, have you been eating so little the whole time?

DandyCyanFinch · 27/04/2025 11:51

@ambercabs definitely not! Very aware this is too little and it’s just been whilst I’ve been having these awful side effects.

I have been struggling with eating enough on Thursdays or Fridays, as I jab Wednesday night, and so one of those days tends to have really intense appetite suppression for me.

Otherwise I’m eating a fairly sensible amount I think? I’m not tracking calories because that’s a major trigger area for me, but apart from the day suppression is at its highest I’ve been eating three fairly balanced meals a day and the odd snack - though am relying on protein drinks quite heavily for breakfast because have always struggled to eat breakfast pre work.

Apart from the first week, I’ve been losing about 1-1.5kg a week and that’s within recommended bounds so I figure I must be eating enough. :)
