Mounjaro and rash

I have had slow titration and had minimal side effects. I have been on 3.6mg for 4 weeks.
Week 22 injected as normal on 3.6mg.
This coincided with putting on new bedding.
3 days later I woke up scratching like mad, to then find I had a rash which literally went in a straight horizontal line from elbow and upper arm over and under chest to opposite elbow and upper arm.
I initially thought I had been bitten by mites so bed stripped and changed.
The day prior to the rash appearing, I also had 3 Nescafé coffee sachets which I hadn’t had before so I also thought maybe an allergic reaction to this product. Haven’t had any since.
Anyhow, took antihistamines, rash not so itchy and manageable.
Then I took week 23 injection, still on 3.6mg and the rash immediately flamed up again.
The antihistamines are not touching the itch. It’s driving me insane. It has spread further. Mostly on upper body and arms but evidence of blotches on legs but they are not so itchy. Nothing on my face.

Any advice?
Anyone else experienced an itchy rash?

Yes! I also have the rash! It drives me crazy. The doctor gave me a steroid foamy cream which is helping. it is on both sides of my chest under my breasts.

Thanks for reply.

You are continuing with MJ ?
Has it stayed the same or got worse as you increased MJ strength?
Can you share the name of foam please.

I had a rash on my tummy and both upper thighs on mounjaro at 5mg Nothing was touching it so I went onto Ozempic. My concern was the allergic reaction could escalate into something more serious.

Any rash with Ozempic?
Did you have to have a break in between changing over?

Yes, I am continuing with the injections.

Enstiler cutaneous foam.

KitsyWitsy · 27/04/2025 08:22

And my rash looks like yours.

KitsyWitsy · 27/04/2025 08:23

or it did.

Your rash has completely gone or do you still have it?

It’s pretty much gone. I’m not good with being consistent with creams but I’ve been doing it everyday for nearly a week and it’s mostly gone and tied t itch anymore.

Did you do your next injection as normal?

I got a very bad rash on my arms about 6 weeks in. Much worse than your photo. Later in it looked more like hives. At first it was bright red, hot, swollen, itchy and painful; as you say the itch was unbearable. I was also very tired for a fortnight around that time.I didn’t realise a skin rash could be an allergic side-effect of MJ (I think I remember reading somewhere that it could be some sulphur in the medication but can’t be sure).

At the time I just assumed I had a strong allergic reaction to an insect bite or something like that and used antihistamine cream which helped a little bit. It was about 2 weeks in that it occurred to me that it could be connected with MJ. It did go away eventually, but took a good few weeks and then a few weeks after that I got a smaller, much less troublesome rash on my knee. Since then, at 6 months now, touchwood, things have been fine. (Funnily enough, I also had very little in the way of gastro side effects.)

lovealongbath · 27/04/2025 08:40

I would add that week 21 prior to rash coming out, I was extremely stressed and possibly run down so I am thinking this might be my body reacting to the stress I have been under.

PS. It happened a couple of weeks after I went up a dose; I have no doubt mine was an allergic reaction to MJ, as I’ve never experienced anything like it.

@lovealongbath , @TankiniQueen can I ask if your rashes have cleared up/ stayed away? I developed a rash on one arm 10 days ago and it's now spread to the other arm, stomach, back and legs as far as my knees. The itching is driving me insane! I've been on mj for 6 months (4 months at 7.5mg) so it's a bit weird to get it now, and not because I've gone up a dose.
Please give me hope that I don't have to give up this miracle medicine! 🙏

lovealongbath · 25/06/2025 05:45

@mince3point14159265
Thankfully, my rash and intense itch has gone.

I was advised by provider to reduce my dose and then build back up.

What I did was miss one week to reduce what was in my system.

The rash appeared when I was taking 3.6mg, after 1 week taking no dose, I then did 2 weeks at 2.5mg, 2 weeks at 3mg, 2 weeks at 3.5mg, 2 weeks at 3.75mg and just this week I have increased to 4mg.
The weight loss slowed down only losing 0.5lb a week however the rash/itch has gone. This week on 4mg, I have had stronger suppression, as this is my highest dose in 30 weeks on MJ and I am confident that this weeks loss will be 2lb. (Weigh day tomorrow)

Whilst I had the rash, I took antihistamines and applied 0.1% hydrocortisone cream thinly over skin.

This is my experience, I am not qualified to give medical advice.

Hope it improves soon.

ds(21 - not using MJ) had something similar a couple of years ago, neck to toes - Dr gave some cream to help with itching and it disappeared in a week-10 days.

No idea what caused it as we couldn't pin point any changes, it hasn't happened since so might have been viral.

mince3point14159265 · 25/06/2025 08:39

Many thanks @lovealongbath, very glad your rash has cleared up! Will give it a few more days with antihistamine plus the cream a pharmacist recommended yesterday and if that doesn’t work will try your method. Annoyingly, I had just bought a 10mg pen to move up to as the losses have slowed right down. Will have to exercise some patience!

Maybe do 30 clicks of 10mg pen reducing strength to 5mg, then increase to 45 clicks , 7.5mg.

Good luck!
