How can I stop the chocolate cravings?!!

I’ve been on Mounjaro for about 8m now, started off at 32 BMI and now down to 28.5. I’ve lost 10kg in total, so just over 1kg a month. I’ve gone up each time and am on the maximum dose. I’ve not had any side effects, but haven’t had any strong appetite suppression.

I never used to eat a lot of chocolate, but am having such strong cravings for it. I ate two Easter eggs in under 15mins yesterday! My desire for wine and cocktails has also increased (on the plus side I’m not getting any hangovers), but again I think this is due to the sugar cravings.

I don’t know what to do, I’ve tried fruit to satisfy it, but that didn’t work. The pull is so strong. I know I just shouldn’t buy it, but I feel like a chocolate monster takes over when I go shopping. It’s not helped that the local shop is selling off all their fancy eggs of cheaply! I’ve put on 2 kilos in the last week!!

The more you have, the more you want! Would having a square of bitter dark chocolate to suck help?

I've been like this. I absolutely crave milk chocolate. I'm on Wegovy. I'm afraid I've just been giving in to it as it's impossible to resist but I try to just keep it as small an amount as possible.

I have chocolate covered dates or you can blend dates, cherries, cacao powder, ground flax and plant milk & refrigerate. I didn't gain weight eating these things.

No, dark chocolate was the only chocolate I used to occasionally eat and now it has to be sugary milk stuff!!

I think I’m just disappointed that it hasn’t worked as well as it has on others.

I used to eat healthy foods (just a bit too much of them), now all I want to eat are salty crisps, milk chocolate, and wine! I try and force down some vegetables daily, but I just don’t enjoy them like I used to. Paying £200 a month for a kilo lost is a bit upsetting.

I have gone through periods like this where I am eating totally healthy, avoiding sugar and then get super cravings for chocolate . Lately I discovered if I drink a sachet of dioralyte in 300-400 ml water my cravings stop. It's strange but has worked thrice. You can give it a try, if nothing it also helps with mounjaro side effects and weight loss.

I have no advice but Im so glad it's not just me...

Do you take magnesium?
Are you eating enough or is your body screaming out for a low density high calorie energy boost?

leli · 24/04/2025 21:08

If I eat chocolate - which I crave too - I get awful muscle cramps and pain in the night afterwards. That's enough to mostly (though not always) stop me.

I was going to post the same thing! My appetite for everything else has gone down, but I'm still craving chocolate 😞

PandaPeacock · 24/04/2025 21:29

I’ve made myself my own “healthy” chocolate. Melt some dark chocolate 90 or 85%, chop up some dates and add some nuts. I use cashews and almonds. Set in the fridge and the cut into small squares.

Atarin · 24/04/2025 21:58

I’m glad I’m not going mad, I thought it was just me!! I’ve tried a few ‘healthy’ hacks, but it’s just not cutting it at all. It has to be milk chocolate, very salty crisps, and weirdly white wine (when I used to be a red fan).

I’m eating ok, not the lovely healthy world cuisine meals I used to enjoy, more quick and easy stuff (although I cook the former for my family, I tend to just snack high calorie foods throughout the day when I have not been a snacker before). I take a lot of vitamins, drink a lot of water. I just seem to crave processed stuff. I ate a double smashed honest burger and chips the other day, and still had room for chocolate.

I can see how I’m only losing 1kg a month when others are losing at least 5kg, I’m eating too much crap. I’m definitely eating less, but wish I was eating less of the crap and more of the healthy stuff I used to eat before, I just have no appetite for the healthy stuff.

I was on Mounjaro for 6 months and lost a stone.

I think I felt sort of low level queasy/tired/headachy a lot of the time.

You know when you recover from a hangover and want to eat greasy food or you recover from a stomach bug and just want to nibble safe, dry, carby stuff? I felt a bit like that so was eating worse foods than before but less of them.

Got up to 12.5mg and the suppression still wore off after the first few days so I've stopped for now.

Some people just don't respond as well to it as others. I lost 2 stone before starting so 3 overall isn't bad.
