Looming Holiday to America

mysparkleismissing · 19/04/2025 15:37

We're off out to the states in a few months and I'll still be MJing.
I'm a little concerned about maintaining a healthier diet while we're away. I know I'll be on holiday but I actually don't want/fancy 'naughty' food. We've got hotels as our accommodation and food is insanely expensive out there. I'll try and find a local shop for fruit and snacks.

Anyone faced anything similar?

You’ll be fine in LA, Vegas will be more difficult, but not impossible.

Been to America a number of times and have 2 more trips this year. Agree supermarkets and fruit / veg in general is overpriced.
One small tip is Wendy’s (the fast food chain) do large really, really good salads (given naff fast food joint!) made fresh daily with protein for about $9.

I think you should be ok, LA should be fairly easy and Vegas doable.
Remember that you can adapt meals much more in the USA, dressing on side of salad, taking out cheese, swapping fried chicken for grilled etc is usually possible.
Vegas has nice sushi restaurants for an example of healthier smaller portioned food.
You aren’t expected to eat everything on your plate and are usually offered a box, unless you’re in a fancy restaurant.
You could also use insta cart for deliveries of fresh fruit etc. Fresh food is often expensive but it does exist.

If there’s a publix near by they gave fabulous salads and fruit bowls.

I had a prawn/ chicken starter with a side salad ? Or burger without the bun and salad / steak with veg etc

Thanks for all the replies and ideas

I was also going to say that adapting your order is so much more accepted in the US, so don’t be afraid to request changes!

Also I went recently, different area, and found a lot more healthy options when eating out than I had before (been visiting regularly for 15 years).

I think you’ll be fine. Pick up a few decent bits to have in case of emergency!

How long are you going for? If its 2 weeks or less im sire you will be fine, you probably are in good habits now
